Hu Liena came from an ordinary family and rose into Spirit Hall’s Golden Generation through talent and hard work. Her parents’ emotional response to her awakening remained vivid enough that she recalled it when Jing Shanshan’s mother wept with gratitude over her son’s prospects 7 11.

As Bibi Dong’s personal disciple, she received guidance on teaching children to think independently rather than depend entirely on adults. She applied this approach when helping “Shi Lang” research his first Soul Ring 7.

Hu Liena is gentle and approachable with children, often presenting herself as an older sister. She protects “Shi Lang” from Yan’s attempt to repeat a dangerous flame test, apologizes for her companion’s temper, and offers practical help with obtaining a first Soul Ring. Her sympathy is particularly strong toward talented children from ordinary families 6 7.

Her kindness does not exclude discipline or competition. She briefly intensifies her charm when Jing Shanshan resists its passive influence, and she allows the young students to experience the difficulty of fighting Soul Beasts before intervening. Following Bibi Dong’s teaching, she encourages research and independent judgment rather than supplying every answer herself 6 7 15.

Under mortal threat, she initially volunteers to remain behind so the others can escape. Nevertheless, she can accept a pragmatic retreat: after Jing Shanshan and “Shi Lang” return to the dangerous forest against the group’s wishes, Xie Yue persuades her to prioritize the remaining party’s safety 18 20.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Meeting “Shi Lang”

While visiting an abandoned warehouse district with Yan and Xie Yue, Hu Liena encounters Jing Shanshan disguised as a masked child named Shi Lang. His innate full Soul Power and ordinary family background interest the trio as potential recruiters 5 6.

After seeing his greatsword absorb Yan’s flames, she shields him from a second test and offers to help obtain his first Soul Ring in seven days. She then takes him to Spirit Hall’s Central Library to investigate suitable choices 7.

Bibi Dong’s Assignments

Bibi Dong orders the Golden Generation to win the Continental Soul Master Tournament two years later, investigate the Great Enshrined’s newly reported green-haired nephew, and contact Jing Shanshan. Hu Liena reports her encounter with Shi Lang, but the blond children’s similarities do not expose their shared identity 10 11.

She subsequently visits Jing Shanshan’s family and arranges for him to join the Soul Ring expedition. When his mother attempts to kneel in gratitude, Hu Liena stops her and emphasizes that the opportunity belongs to the child’s own talent 11.

Star Dou Great Forest Expedition

Hu Liena leads the party to the Star Dou Great Forest to seek a rare Red Gold Flame Dragon for Shi Lang’s Ember Devouring greatsword, while helping the other children obtain their rings along the way 13 14.

The students’ attempt to hunt Qian Jun Ants deteriorates, and Jing Shanshan’s Spirit-Luring Cauldron attracts a larger swarm. After “Shi Lang” creates a wall of fire to enable their escape, Hu Liena checks his condition and the other children’s injuries 15 16.

Dark Demon Evil God Tiger Ambush

After nearly a week without finding the desired dragon, Hu Liena decides to leave the forest for rest. A Dark Demon Evil God Tiger intercepts the group, prompting her to volunteer to delay it while the others flee. Xie Yue and Yan insist on standing with her 17 18.

Chrysanthemum Douluo intervenes and orders an immediate retreat. Hu Liena grabs Jing Shanshan and “Shi Lang” and runs with the others. Once outside, both children unexpectedly return to the forest; she protests but ultimately accepts Xie Yue’s argument against following them 19 20.

Academy Reunion

When Jing Shanshan enrolls at Spirit Hall Academy, Hu Liena, Yan, and Xie Yue are assigned to show him around as the Great Enshrined’s nephew. They complete the tour mechanically and leave without saying goodbye 42.
