Background / History

Arrival in the Imperium

Before arriving in the Imperium, Sith had only expressed his enthusiasm for Imperial loyalty online. He awakens near the end of the 41st millennium as the commander of Vigilus’s 101st Planetary Defence Force Regiment, facing an assault against fortified rebel positions. His soldiers are freezing, hungry, and poorly equipped, and the supervising Commissar refuses his request for heating fuel 1.

The discovery of Hundredfold Amplification gives him an alternative to resignation. He trains alongside his soldiers before the attack, then leads them through the rebel line despite nearby Imperial artillery fire. Their survival establishes the foundation of his rapidly growing veteran force 1 2.

Building the 101st Regiment

Ordered to reinforce an encircled supply depot, Sith leads approximately one thousand veterans in routing its besiegers. Further fighting outside the Hive City leaves the surviving soldiers much stronger but without adequate food or ammunition. Sith forbids eating rebel corpses and leads them toward another supply station using captured melee weapons 3 5 6.

After securing supplies, he feeds civilians and incorporates them into his regiment. Learning that the planet is Vigilus—and recognizing the catastrophic campaign still ahead—he establishes a refugee center around a cathedral. In three days, his army expands by one hundred thousand recruits organized into twenty infantry regiments, although uniforms, weapons, and food remain scarce 7 10 11.

Sith exploits the rebels’ fear of his force to strip their positions of ammunition and weapons, then demands tanks before leaving. His army enters the Ork-infested desert, where victories bring both increased strength and devastating casualties: only half of the original hundred thousand remain after successive battles 13 14 15 16.

Service with the Deathwatch

Sith’s regiment is assigned to support the Deathwatch under Daviro, a Blackshield. Although Daviro respects the regiment’s courage, Sith fears that exposure to xenos and a potentially suspect Astartes could make his soldiers targets for a later purge 17 19.

During the advance into another Hive City, the nobles’ gate-closing command proves false. Sith and Daviro seal the passage with Melta Bombs while veteran soldiers remain outside to hold back the Orks. After Daviro executes the nobles under Inquisitorial authority, Sith takes control of the spire and replenishes his army 21 24.

He subsequently accompanies Daviro into the Underhive, where they confirm Genestealer involvement in the rebellion. Sith kills a Zoanthrope that has immobilized Daviro, then leads his veterans back through the enemy to the summit. More than seventy veterans return with him atop a heap of dead Aberrants 26 27.

Imperial Recognition and Hyperia

Imperial publicity turns Sith into a celebrated mortal commander. His regiment receives elite equipment, including ten thousand fully enclosed combat suits. Calgar’s use of Sith as a symbol also requires him to continue holding his isolated position while refugees are evacuated 30.

When nobles seize the available water, Sith breaches their fortress with Daviro’s assistance and recovers the supplies. He is then assigned to retake a water purification station reached through a thousand-kilometre space elevator. Equipped with Artificer Power Armour, he trains two thousand veterans for the climb and fights upward through the Genestealers 31 32 33 34.

The survivors restore the water supply, but a Macro-cannon shell from Abaddon’s fleet destroys the station shortly afterward. Sith orders an immediate evacuation and returns to the fighting below. His forces later drive off Black Skull, escape their Hive City, and emerge from further battles against Orks and Chaos on a glass-covered battlefield 35 37 38 40.

Calgar grants Sith command of Imperial troops stranded outside the defensive lines. Sith gathers roughly two hundred thousand soldiers and leads them toward Hyperia, but the eventual breakthrough leaves only a small remnant, predominantly his own veterans. Calgar publicly recognizes him as Vigilus’s legend and announces his promotion into the Astra Militarum 41 42 43.

Black Watch and the Warp

The 101st Regiment receives the designation Black Watch, along with senior command authority and direct Departmento Munitorum support. Its promotion also removes Sith’s immediate fear of punishment for witnessing Genestealers, daemons, and renegade forces 44.

Assigned to a boarding operation targeting the Vengeful Spirit, Sith enters a Chaos ship with his troops. When Daviro charges after fleeing enemies, Sith knocks him unconscious rather than allow the regiment to follow him into a suicidal advance. He orders the Black Watch to capture a boarding craft and escape to an Imperial vessel 44 45.

Sith and his companions nevertheless end up aboard a crippled frigate dragged into the Warp without a functioning Gellar Field. After two months of continuous combat, fewer than two thousand of the tens of thousands who left Vigilus remain. The survivors receive blessings from both Khorne and the Emperor before their ship is drawn back into Realspace, where Daviro welcomes Sith to the 42nd millennium and reveals the Great Rift 47 48.

Their Sword-class Frigate crashes on Oumia III. Meeting the local convoy, Sith lightly describes the Black Watch as a Planetary Defence Force, while Daviro worries that they have been delivered to another world as dangerous as Vigilus 50.

Appearance

  • Youthful face: Initially appears as a young regimental commander; later, his face bears the resolve of extensive combat 1 43.
  • Officer’s uniform: Wears a peaked cap, military boots, gloves, and a greatcoat; is later seen in a colonel’s uniform 1 44.
  • Artificer armour: His full-body suit is muted silver, subsequently described as dark silver, with golden engraving, red helmet lenses, purity seals, and a blue-and-gold cloak 33 37 45.
  • Supernatural glow: Emits red light under Khorne’s blessings; later, divine light gathers into his armour and sword 5 47 48.

Personality

Sith is acutely survival-minded and privately irreverent. He initially resents finding himself in the Imperium, recognizes the danger behind apparently glorious assignments, and distrusts propaganda that contradicts the battlefield. His outward discipline conceals frequent frustration with Imperial institutions and commanders 1 19 30 31 43.

He nevertheless leads from the front rather than asking soldiers to face dangers he avoids. He reassures terrified recruits by promising to go first and later offers stranded troops the practical assurance that he will lead them through the enemy. His refusal to let Daviro’s charge dictate the Black Watch’s actions shows that he distinguishes courage from pointless death 21 42 45.

His concern for his troops includes food, warmth, equipment, rest, and morale. He refuses to divert civilian rations to soldiers, particularly because many refugees are their families, and objects to Ana dismissing a food defect on the assumption that its consumers will die young. That concern coexists with harsh battlefield decisions, including leaving veterans behind to cover a retreat 1 11 21 24.

Sith is also resourceful and opportunistic. He turns frightened civilians into recruits, uses religious observance to gain access to a refugee-filled cathedral, and converts the rebels’ desire to see him leave into a chance to rearm his entire force 7 11 13.

Abilities & Skills

Hundredfold Amplification

His central power grants hundredfold positive feedback to activities in which he personally participates 1.

  • Physical enhancement: Amplifies strength, reflexes, and speed 1.
  • Shared development: Accelerates training and combat growth among soldiers he leads 2 5.
  • Morale enhancement: Newly incorporated deserters experience a hundredfold morale increase, though their extremely low starting morale still leaves them below his veterans 20.
  • Equipment interaction: Causes a gate-opening device’s energy readings to surge and greatly strengthens his Artificer Power Armour 3 33.
  • Limits: Does not prevent hunger, exhaustion, injury, or casualties. Sith’s enhanced body still suffers from severe cold 5 11 16 23 40.

Supernatural Empowerment

Sith benefits from multiple sources of power without abandoning his Imperial allegiance 6 15 48.

  • Khorne’s blessings: Enhance him and his soldiers without forcing them into mindless slaughter 6.
  • Corruption resistance: Sith attributes their retained self-control to hundredfold-amplified resistance to Warp corruption 6.
  • Ork belief: Draws increasing strength from the Orks’ belief in his exceptional “Waaagh” nature 15.
  • Psychic resistance: Resists the Zoanthrope’s mental assault before killing it 26 27.
  • Warp combat: Survives two months of fighting daemons alongside the Black Watch despite the loss of their ship’s Gellar Field 47 48.

Marksmanship and Close Combat

His combat performance repeatedly surprises Astartes observers 22 34.

  • Eliminates heavy-weapon operators before they can fire 2 3.
  • Fires accurately while advancing, consistently selecting the greatest threats 22.
  • Carries and fires an autocannon without powered armour 32.
  • Cuts through masses of Genestealers in armour, performing beyond what Calgar considers achievable by an ordinary Astartes 34.
  • Kills Chaos Astartes with his Power Sword 40.

Command and Logistics

Sith combines accelerated troop development with aggressive recruitment and supply acquisition 8 11 13.

  • Organizes refugees into military formations and incorporates deserters and former household guards 11 20 24.
  • Uses veteran cadres to manage inexperienced recruits; two thousand veterans supervising one hundred thousand new troops is already his practical limit at that stage 11.
  • Prioritizes standardized clothing as a means of creating military identity and morale 11.
  • Develops specialized training for difficult operations, including repeated spire climbs before the space-elevator assault 33.
  • Conserves fuel and other supplies when further fighting is unavoidable 41.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Early sidearm and saber — His initial weapons; prolonged fighting ruins the saber’s edge, forcing him to adopt captured blades 2 5.
  • Captured serrated sword — Used during the push toward the supply station 5 6.
  • Officer’s Bolt Pistol — Adapted for mortal use and employed during the Hive City advance 22.
  • Autocannon — Taken from a heavy-weapon emplacement and used to storm the nobles’ fortress 32.
  • Artificer Power Armour — Ornate, master-crafted armour with a Mechanicus-made power pack; enhanced by Hundredfold Amplification 32 33.
  • Master-crafted boltgun — Delivered with the armour; capable of effectively wounding or killing Astartes 33.
  • Master-crafted Power Sword — An adamantium blade styled as an ancient sword, decorated with elaborate patterns and runic light 33.
  • Leman Russ — Commands the tank during the desert advance and the breakthrough toward Hyperia 14 42.
  • Chainsword — Wielded during the prolonged fighting inside the Warp 47.
  • Crimson Sword — Carried when he meets Oumia III’s inhabitants 50.

Relationships

  • Brunok — Adjutant and frontline subordinate. Handles recruitment, equipment, reports, and battlefield coordination; repeatedly witnesses Sith’s extraordinary growth 7 8 16 35.
  • Ana — Tech-priest and technical specialist. Supports logistics, improvised uniforms, food production, communications, and armour maintenance; Sith challenges her willingness to discount long-term harm to soldiers 11 24 32 36.
  • Daviro — Deathwatch Blackshield and recurring comrade. Respects Sith’s courage, helps secure his Astra Militarum promotion, and volunteers for the boarding operation. Sith later knocks him unconscious to stop a reckless charge 19 44 45.
  • Calgar — Senior commander and sponsor. Promotes Sith as an Imperial symbol, supplies and advances his regiment, and repeatedly assigns him exceptionally dangerous missions 30 32 41 43.
  • The 101st Regiment / Black Watch — His soldiers and the main beneficiaries of his shared amplification. Their black uniforms develop from an emergency improvisation into a voluntary regimental tradition 2 11 24 44.
  • Black Skull — Chaos warband leader whose danger sense identifies Sith as an overwhelming threat; his subsequent flight attracts Abaddon’s attention 37 38.
