Background / History

Travels with Tang Xiao and Ah Yin

Tang Hao traveled the continent with his older brother, Tang Xiao. The brothers once stayed in a town but left when an epidemic broke out, missing the period in which Ah Yin met Qian Xunji and helped treat the townspeople. Tang Hao later bitterly regretted leaving, believing he could have met her sooner 6.

The brothers subsequently met Ah Yin in the Star Dou Great Forest. After traveling together for roughly a year, the three became sworn siblings, with Tang Xiao as the eldest, Tang Hao as the second brother, and Ah Yin as their younger sister 16.

Outside Suotuo City, Yue Guan and Gui Mei approached Ah Yin on Qian Xunji’s behalf. Tang Hao angrily challenged their right to take her away and summoned his Clear Sky Hammer after Yue Guan disparaged the Clear Sky Sect; Tang Xiao stopped him from attacking. When Ah Yin refused to meet Qian Xunji, Tang Hao promised to protect her and help her reach somewhere Spirit Hall could not find her 16 17.

Exposure of Ah Yin’s Identity

During a visit to an auction house in the Heaven Dou Empire, a Soul Douluo with an unusually perceptive Martial Soul noticed something abnormal about Ah Yin. Tang Hao and Tang Xiao drove him off by invoking the Clear Sky Sect’s name, but he spread his suspicions. A Titled Douluo later confirmed that Ah Yin was a transformed hundred-thousand-year Soul Beast, drawing numerous Soul Masters into pursuit 21.

Tang Xiao used Ring Detonation to delay the attackers, allowing Tang Hao to escape with Ah Yin. Near Holy Soul Village, Tang Hao broke through an ambush but was surrounded again. Refusing to surrender her, he detonated all eight Soul Rings and attacked the pursuing Titled Douluo, Spirit Eagle Douluo 21.

Spirit Eagle Douluo’s ninth Soul Skill shattered Tang Hao’s Clear Sky Hammer, leaving him incapacitated. Qian Xunji then arrived, claimed Ah Yin for Spirit Hall, and arranged for Tang Hao to be returned to the Clear Sky Sect. Ah Yin departed only after receiving assurances that Tang Hao would be sent back safely 22.

At the sect, Tang Hao lay unconscious in a medicinal bath, repeatedly calling for Ah Yin not to leave. The sect’s members were furious that the brothers had allowed Spirit Hall to obtain a hundred-thousand-year transformed Soul Beast 23.

Seclusion and the Heavenly Screen

Twenty years after last seeing Ah Yin, Tang Hao lived as a withdrawn, heavy-drinking recluse in a mountain village. Her appearance on the Heavenly Screen broke through his apathy, but watching her closeness with Qian Xunji provoked intense jealousy and rage 6 7 8.

Tang Hao said that he had raised Ah Yin’s son, Tang San, to adulthood and took pride in Tang San becoming a Limit Douluo who surpassed him. Watching Qian Xunji’s relationship with Ah Rou also made him resent the opposition he had faced over his own relationship with Ah Yin 15.

When the screen replayed his defeat and separation from Ah Yin, Tang Hao blamed himself for failing to protect her. He particularly regretted taking her into the auction house where suspicions about her identity began 22.

Appearance

  • During seclusion: Scruffy and frequently drunk, living in a small village deep in the mountains 6.
  • During the revelations: His grief and jealousy manifest physically through tears, a bleeding mouth from clenching his teeth, and bloodied hands from digging his nails into his palms 6 7 8.

Personality

Tang Hao is fiercely protective of Ah Yin. Although the discovery of her Soul Beast identity briefly unsettles him, he resolves to defend her despite warnings that doing so will make him an enemy of other Soul Masters. He ultimately risks his life to create an opportunity for her escape 21.

His protectiveness coexists with impulsiveness and possessive jealousy. He nearly attacks Yue Guan over an insult to the Clear Sky Sect, requiring Tang Xiao to restrain him. He is also upset to learn that Qian Xunji moved Ah Yin’s heart before he did, while taking encouragement from her refusal to meet the Pope 16 17.

In seclusion, longing for Ah Yin dominates his life. Her image draws him out of emotional numbness, but he cannot stop watching even when the revelations cause him anguish. His anger repeatedly turns inward as regret over the choices that led to their separation 6 7 22.

Abilities & Skills

Clear Sky Hammer

Tang Hao’s Martial Soul is a hammer used for direct attacks and defensive techniques 16 21.

  • Deflects incoming attacks with a swing 21.
  • Can become an enormous, sky-filling hammer when empowered by Ring Detonation 21.
  • Despite that amplification, it is shattered by Spirit Eagle Douluo’s ninth Soul Skill 22.

First Soul Skill: Clear Sky Shield

  • Forms a protective shield of golden light around Tang Hao 21.
  • Used when enemy Soul Masters trap him and Ah Yin with water and terrain-control techniques 21.

Ring Detonation

Tang Hao detonates his Soul Rings to release power into his Clear Sky Hammer 21.

  • Detonates all eight rings simultaneously for his strongest strike against Spirit Eagle Douluo 21.
  • Uses the attack to try to give Ah Yin a chance to escape 21.
  • Cannot overcome the gap between his Soul Douluo strength and his Titled Douluo opponent 22.

Relationships

  • Ah Yin — Sworn younger sister and beloved. Tang Hao defends her after her Soul Beast identity is exposed and spends twenty years longing to see her again 7 16 21.
  • Tang Xiao — Older brother and traveling companion. Tang Xiao restrains his impulsiveness and later holds off their pursuers so Tang Hao can flee with Ah Yin 16 21.
  • Tang San — Son whom Tang Hao raised to adulthood. Tang Hao regards Tang San’s rise to Limit Douluo as fulfilling Ah Yin’s trust in him 8 15.
  • Qian Xunji — Romantic rival and object of intense resentment. Qian Xunji takes Ah Yin away after Tang Hao’s defeat but also orders Tang Hao’s safe return to his sect 6 17 22.
  • Spirit Eagle Douluo — Pursuer who seeks Ah Yin’s Soul Ring and Soul Bone. He defeats Tang Hao despite the latter’s use of all eight rings in Ring Detonation 21 22.
  • Yue Guan and Gui Mei — Spirit Hall representatives whom Tang Hao confronts over Ah Yin. They later oversee Ah Yin’s departure and Tang Hao’s return to the Clear Sky Sect 16 17 22.
