Background and History

Transmigration and the Bureau Assessment

Lu Guan transmigrated into the body of an eighteen-year-old probationary Demon Suppression Bureau officer. His predecessor belonged to a family whose three preceding generations had died fighting demons. After his father’s death, his mother became bedridden and died, leaving him alone. Driven by hatred of demons, the predecessor trained until he died immediately after breaking through to the Qi and Blood Realm 1.

On his first assessment mission, Lu Guan confronted a painted-skin White Bone Demon in an abandoned temple. Contrary to the bureau’s intelligence, it was a late Qi and Blood Realm demon rather than an early-stage opponent. Gravely wounded, he sacrificed nearly his entire remaining lifespan through his panel, reached Qi and Blood perfection, and killed it. Only afterward did he discover that slain demons could supply cultivation years without consuming his lifespan 1 2.

Conflict with the Zhou Family

The county’s sole vacant official post was also sought by Zhou Jie, the commandant’s nephew. Suspecting that the false assessment intelligence was connected to this competition, Lu Guan confronted Zhou Kaishan with the demon’s bone as evidence. Zhou Kaishan granted him full officer status in exchange for leaving the evidence behind 3 4 5.

Lu Guan nevertheless pursued his grudge that night, killing another White Bone Demon and Zhou Jie. Zhou Kaishan retaliated by assigning him to Wu Yong’s First Squad to watch White Bone Mountain, intending the mission to become his burial ground. Instead, Lu Guan treated the mountain’s demons as a source of cultivation 6 9 13.

Rise to Commandant

At White Bone Mountain, Lu Guan rescued Tang Jun, developed the Demon-Exterminating Heart Scripture, and advanced to perfected True Qi. He then killed the Yellow Flower Ridge tiger demon, slew the White Bone Demon King, rescued Yu Qianqian, and exterminated the mountain’s remaining demons 14 15 17 18 19 20.

After killing Zhou Kaishan, Lu Guan justified his actions using a stone wall retrieved from the White Bone Demon King’s cave. Its Demon Race inscriptions documented the commandant’s collusion with demons. Qin Tiannan verified the translation, and Deputy Suppression Commissioner Wang Quan offered Lu Guan the temporary commandant position pending formal approval 23 24.

As commandant, Lu Guan led the bureau against Wild Boar Ridge and personally killed its leader and four sons. The weasels at Weasel Grave fled before he could reach them. The destruction of the surrounding demon powers made him a celebrated figure in Qianqiu County 28 29 30.

Retaliation and the Demon-Slaying Envoys

An inherited ape demon attacked the county and was killed by Lu Guan’s Azure Dragon Form. Its death placed a tracking mark on his neck. Lu Guan subsequently perfected his body refinement and killed Yin Shisan, a Gang Condensation tiger demon from Ailao Mountain, with his bare hands 32 33 35 38.

Yuan Guanshan then arrived seeking revenge for the ape demon. Despite reaching perfected Gang Condensation, Lu Guan was overwhelmed by the old ape’s Inner Landscape power. Yu Qianqian brought Chen Jingchou to intervene; Chen sealed Yuan Guanshan’s access to the Qi of heaven and earth while leaving Lu Guan’s unrestricted. Lu Guan killed the ape with Celestial Person One Saber Slash, exhausting all his Gang Qi 44 46 47.

Chen Jingchou invited him into the Demon-Slaying Envoys. With Qianqiu County’s demons eliminated and his local cultivation source exhausted, Lu Guan accepted. He became a Silver-Token Envoy, arranged for Wang Muzhi, Meng Shuo, and Li Fugui to manage the county until a replacement arrived, and rode north toward an envoy’s distress call in Five Li Town 47 49 50.

Personality

Lu Guan’s primary motive for slaying demons is survival: he wants cultivation, higher realms, and a longer lifespan. He does not consider himself a saint, though he recognizes that protecting others and pursuing his own advancement need not conflict. This produces a recurring gap between his intentions and his reputation: Wu Yong interprets his disappointment over escaped weasels as concern for the wider world, whereas Lu Guan is mourning the cultivation he missed 25 29.

He is decisive, vengeful, and willing to take extreme risks, exemplified by spending seventy-one lifespan years during his first battle and refusing to leave his grudge against Zhou Jie overnight. His aggression is not indiscriminate: he initially avoids True Qi guardians on White Bone Mountain, gathers evidence against Zhou Kaishan, and negotiates for a cultivation method when threatened by Yuan Guanshan 2 6 12 24 41.

He remains courteous toward fellow officers and values genuine loyalty. Zhao Tielin’s willingness to rally support moves him, while his respectful conduct wins over the initially hostile First Squad. He also shows a gentler side when reassuring a child with an azure dragon manifestation after defeating the ape demon 6 12 33.
