Background / History
Flight from Home and Rescue
Yu Qianqian grew up in the Prince of Yan's household, surrounded by senior military officers and accustomed to dedicated cooks and medicinal nourishment. She ran away from home and fell into demonic captivity. After her rescue, she regretted leaving and remembered the security she had felt with her father as a child 20 25 26 36.
Lu Guan rescued her from White Bone Mountain and carried her to the Demon Suppression Bureau officers' camp after she fainted from hunger. Wu Yong and the others revived her with hot water and softened flatbread. Initially wary of the officers, she sought out her rescuer and warned him that killing Commandant Zhou Kaishan without authorization could damage his future, even if Zhou was a traitor 20.
Despite that caution, she publicly accused Zhou of feeding the county's people to demons. Zhou responded with a palm strike, but Lu Guan severed his arm before the attack reached her 22.
Staying at the Lu Residence
After Lu Guan became acting commandant, Yu Qianqian secured lodging at his home by offering him a Gang Condensation Realm martial art. She wrote out the Four Symbols Heaven's Will Saber from memory, while he provided clothes, shelter, and meals to help restore her depleted Qi and Blood 25 26.
She was astonished when Lu Guan performed the saber art despite still appearing to be in the True Qi Realm. His achievement also sharpened her dissatisfaction with her own progress: she considered her talent poor and remained in the Qi and Blood Realm. When he requested an internal cultivation method, she explained that the saber art was the only Gang Condensation Realm technique she remembered 27 28.
During her stay, she welcomed him home with tea, checked his injuries, and attempted to learn cooking from Auntie Wang next door. Her first dish—stir-fried tomatoes and eggs—was burned and contained eggshell 30 33 36.
Seeking Help and Facing Yin Shisan
After discovering a beast-claw mark on Lu Guan's neck, Yu Qianqian explained that the slain ape demon's faction could use it to track him and exact revenge. She sent a letter home requesting assistance, although she privately remained determined not to return to the prince's household 33 36 38.
Yin Shisan subsequently arrived at the Lu Residence and addressed her as Commandery Princess Luyang, exposing her identity to Lu Guan. Terrified of the Gang Condensation Realm tiger demon, she offered to accompany it if it spared her rescuer. Lu Guan instead protected her and killed Yin Shisan with his bare hands 37 38.
Yuan Guanshan's Siege and Departure
When Yuan Guanshan arrived outside Qianqiu County, Yu Qianqian recognized his command of heaven-and-earth Qi as evidence of the Inner Landscape Realm. She understood that the danger exceeded what she had anticipated from the ape demon's backers 38 39.
She later returned with Gold-Token Demon-Slaying Envoy Chen Jingchou, the helper she had contacted by letter. Seeing Lu Guan badly injured, she urged Chen to stop him from fighting. Chen instead restrained Yuan Guanshan's access to heaven-and-earth Qi and challenged Lu Guan to prove himself 45 46.
After Lu Guan killed Yuan Guanshan, Yu Qianqian explained that she had given him the Four Symbols Heaven's Will Saber but had not taught him its hidden divine ability, Celestial Person One Saber Slash. Her account of his rapid learning helped establish his extraordinary talent in Chen's eyes, leading to an invitation to join the Demon-Slaying Envoys 47.
Chen took her away that night. She initially clung to the doorframe and refused to leave, relenting only after he flicked her forehead 49.
Appearance
- Build: Petite, with slender limbs and a delicate neck 20 26 33.
- Features: Refined brows, expressive eyes, pale skin, and long hair. Her brows are compared to distant mountains and her eyes to autumn waters 20 26.
- Condition after captivity: Severely thin, with tangled hair, tattered clothes, and mud-covered toes 20.
- Clothing at the Lu Residence: Wears Lu Guan's oversized black robe because he has no women's clothes available 25 26.
Personality
Yu Qianqian combines an understanding of official hierarchy with a willingness to confront wrongdoing. She warns Lu Guan about the consequences of defying a superior, yet openly condemns Zhou Kaishan before the gathered townspeople 20 22.
She is playful and resourceful in her dealings with Lu Guan, using a martial art to negotiate lodging and teasing him about taking responsibility for her recovery. His single-minded interest in cultivation frequently frustrates her, especially when he responds to her attempts at flirtation by asking about the promised technique 25 26.
Her gratitude becomes active concern: she examines his wounds, seeks powerful help, and offers to surrender to Yin Shisan rather than endanger him. Although she increasingly trusts Lu Guan's strength, his relentless fighting and implausibly rapid progress repeatedly leave her worried or bewildered 30 33 37 38 46.
