After overpowering Xia Chen with devastating slashes, Golden Lion left him wounded and questioning whether the attacks were coated in Conqueror's Haki.

  • Golden Lion used the Float-Float Fruit to evade Xia Chen's attack, but Xia Chen struck him with two powerful blows and drove him into a deep crater.

Ch. 112Spare the rod for a day, and they'll tear the roof away

  • Nami realized the whirlpool’s disappearance meant the Knock Up Stream was about to erupt, and the crew braced themselves as the current lifted the Going Merry.
  • Nami directed the crew to raise the sails and turn the rudder, allowing the ship to take flight up the water column while Cricket watched and wished them luck.
  • Xia Chen used the Water Avoidance Art to protect himself, Nami, and Robin as the Going Merry plunged through the clouds, while Luffy and the others struggled to breathe.
  • After the ship emerged from the clouds, Luffy and the others confronted Xia Chen for protecting only Nami and Robin, then all five attacked him and were knocked back with matching handprints on their faces.

  • Xia Chen recognized the attacker as Wyper of the Shandia People and noted the crew’s developing combat abilities and Haki.
  • Xia Chen called out an observer in a cloud, and the Knight of the Sky descended onto the ship and asked whether Xia Chen had found him using Mantra.

Ch. 114The Man Who Reached the Top in Old Age

  • Xia Chen claimed he had only just remembered extra information and identified Gan Fall as Sky Island's former god, explaining that Roger had told him about Gan Fall.
  • Gan Fall joined the crew's laughter, and he explained to Nami that Angel Island lay on the White-White Sea, ten thousand meters above them, accessible by a cloud waterfall for a toll.
  • Xia Chen offered to pay the toll and persuaded the crew to explore Sky Island before searching for the City of Gold in Upper Yard.
  • Xia Chen revealed that Upper Yard was half of Jaya Island, which the Knock Up Stream had blasted into the sky, and explained why Sky Islanders valued its soil as Vearth.

Ch. 115Impact Dial

  • Gan Fall warned Luffy and the others that Enel commanded lightning and was the strongest human he had ever seen, but Luffy and Zoro were excited to challenge him.
  • At the waterfall cloud river, Gan Fall said farewell to the group and gave Xia Chen an Impact Dial when Xia Chen asked for one.
  • Xia Chen asked Chopper to punch the Impact Dial, and Chopper's stored blow left him thinking he was weak when the shell remained intact.
  • Xia Chen explained that the Impact Dial stored impacts and could release them later, prompting Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji to praise Chopper's strength while avoiding a test punch.

Xia Chen revealed what he knew about the Ancient Weapons to Robin, then confronted Enel at his shrine and easily defeated him. Enel decided to launch the Ark for Endless Vearth the next day, unsettled by Xia Chen’s presence.

  • Robin deciphered the Poneglyph and learned it described Poseidon’s location on Fish-Man Island.
  • Xia Chen told Robin that the Alabasta Poneglyph contained information about Pluton and claimed to know the Ancient Weapons’ locations and who held Pluton’s blueprints.
  • Xia Chen sent Robin to read Roger’s message, then vanished to visit Enel in the shrine.
  • Enel could not sense Xia Chen with Mantra and threatened him, but Xia Chen punched him through the shrine and caught his lightning attack with Armament Haki.
  • Xia Chen spared Enel, reasoning that he could serve as an opponent for Luffy and the others to improve their Haki.
  • Enel let Xia Chen leave and decided to launch the Ark for Endless Vearth the next day because Xia Chen’s strength made him uneasy.

Ch. 119Setting out for Upper Yard

Xia Chen launched the Going Merry toward Upper Yard by striking the sea, while Wyper led the Shandia People on a surprise attack to reclaim their homeland. Gan Fall tried to stop them, but their confrontation was interrupted when the sky suddenly darkened.

  • Xia Chen told Luffy and the others that he and Robin had found something interesting, then the crew planned to search for gold in Upper Yard.

  • Xia Chen explained that his technique used Armament Haki, inspiring Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji to want to learn it.
  • Wyper led the Shandia People toward Upper Yard, determined to reclaim their ancestral land and defeat Enel.
  • Gan Fall confronted Wyper and refused to let the Shandia People pass, so Wyper aimed his rocket launcher at him.
  • Just before Wyper and Gan Fall fought, the sky suddenly darkened and everyone looked up.

Ch. 120Conflict

Luffy and his crew clashed with Wyper and the Shandia People after the Going Merry crashed near them, and the fight escalated when they learned the crew sought gold in Upper Yard. Xia Chen stopped the remaining Shandia People and warned them not to attack again, leaving both sides badly injured and hostile.

  • The Going Merry crashed into the sea near Wyper and the Shandia People, and Luffy apologized after learning the ship had nearly hit them.
  • Wyper rejected Luffy's apology, fired another shell, and attacked again after hearing that the crew planned to find gold in the sacred land.
  • Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji struck Wyper and fought the Shandia People, leaving most of them unconscious and severely wounded.
  • Xia Chen immobilized Wyper, warned the Shandia People that another attack could get them killed, and blasted the few conscious fighters away.

Ch. 121The Four Ordeals

Xia Chen brought the Going Merry to Upper Yard and explained that Enel and his followers guarded the gold. The crew split up to enter the four ordeals, leaving Xia Chen to face the remaining gate as the others expected him to go in.

  • Xia Chen left the Shandia People behind, while Gan Fall stayed to help them and lamented their refusal to heed his warnings.
  • Enel sensed that the Shandia People had vanished and prepared to enjoy one last fight before leaving for Endless Vearth, unaware that Xia Chen was approaching.
  • The Going Merry landed near Upper Yard, where Luffy rushed off to search for gold and Xia Chen warned the crew that Enel and his followers might resist them.
  • Zoro and Sanji argued over who would defeat their opponents, and Nami punched them both with Conqueror's Coating.

  • Usopp hit Gedatsu with a Gunpowder Star, setting his clothes on fire, and Chopper leaped toward him with Kokutei.

Ch. 125The priests, all defeated!
