Background / History
Chen Qingyu believes himself to have transmigrated into a cultivation world, awakening the Infinite Sign-In System while still an infant. Raised by Chen Zhengxing in Divine Capital Changluo, he receives cultivation education from the age of three but does not formally begin cultivating until six. Before his first successful sign-in, his physical performance is unremarkable by the standards of the Chen Clan’s direct descendants 1 2.
His mother, Ling Qiuxia, is the Spirit King’s seventh daughter and the Princess of Rosy Light. Opposition to his parents’ interspecies relationship and the ensuing family calamity separate the household. His birth is delayed by sixty years, and he grows up without seeing his mother or older sister 32 150 152.
His nine-star assessment overturns the clan elders’ earlier pessimism about his mixed heritage. He eventually becomes the Chen Clan’s Dao Son, with status and authority equal to the clan chief’s. His appointment also leads to his father’s pardon and release from guarding the Great Yin Grotto 64 70 260.
Appearance
- Original childhood body: Initially only about three feet tall; his physical age contrasts sharply with the adult soul he describes possessing 11 31.
- Recognizable youthful appearance: A handsome youth in white with sword-like brows and star-like eyes. This appearance remains recognizable much later in the story 11 762.
- Transformation: Uses Gestation and Transformation to reshape his six-year-old body into the appearance of a sixteen-year-old 31 32.
- Travel disguise: Combines a thin mask with transformation to assume stern, cold features distinct from the famous Chen Shaojun 154 260.
- Family resemblance: After he removes his disguise, Ling Qiuxia remarks that he strongly resembles Chen Zhengxing, particularly around the eyes 260.
Personality
Chen Qingyu is confident, competitive, and playful. He enjoys teasing Chen Qingyuan, takes obvious pleasure in surprising opponents with flight, and initially expects sign-in rewards to help close gaps in his strength. When the Floating Heavenly Palace’s reward pool runs dry, however, he turns back to training rather than abandoning his challenge to Zhou Chenlong 8 17 31.
His confidence does not prevent him from acknowledging another fighter’s strengths. After defeating Chen Qinggu, he credits his superior cultivation method, reserves, and physique while admitting that Qinggu’s combat skill exceeds his own. Against Wang Jue, he patiently studies more than a thousand sword attacks before exploiting their repetition 27 105.
Family is central to his identity. He places being his parents’ son and his sister’s brother before his status as Dao Son or Chen Shaojun. He also rejects the idea that bloodline alone determines affection, a conviction that remains unchanged after the Taihao Essence transforms his own lineage 260 496.
He treats authority as a responsibility rather than merely a privilege. He defends the obligations placed on direct descendants, seeks to repair damage associated with his father’s past, and uses his position to obtain justice and medical treatment for oppressed relatives in Central Capital Yangchuan 32 178 310 317 320.
Abilities & Skills
Infinite Sign-In System
Grants divine abilities, cultivation arts, treasures, and other rewards through sign-ins at designated locations 1.
- The Floating Heavenly Palace provides nine Heavenly Gang Transformations; after its prize pool is exhausted, further sign-ins can strengthen existing rewards 31.
- New locations unlock additional reward pools, beginning with Heaven-Reaching Sword Gorge 31.
- In the finale, the System reveals its completed mission and its connection to Dao Ancestor Hongmeng’s plan against the Lord of the Yellow Court. Chen Qingyu realizes that the final sign-in power is rising from within his own body 830.
Qi Absorption in Nine Breaths
His first divine ability and the foundation of his early rise. It draws in exceptionally pure primordial Qi and refines it into his own strength 1 2.
- Accelerates cultivation and replenishes depleted True Qi 2 27.
- Can power martial techniques directly with primal Qi when Wu Chenkong suppresses his True Qi 134.
- Later becomes the basis of the Calamity of Primordial Qi, though that calamity is initially unremarkable in combat 665.
Heavenly Gang Transformations
His first reward pool contains the following nine abilities 31:
- Qi Absorption in Nine Breaths
- Standing Upright Without a Shadow
- Soaring on Clouds and Riding the Mist
- Flying Sand and Moving Stones
- Drawing Out Primordial Yang
- Subduing Dragons and Taming Tigers
- Seeing Through Walls
- Summoning Wind and Rain
- Gestation and Transformation
Later acquisitions expand his movement, transformation, and spellcasting options:
- Golden Light Traversing the Earth: At his cultivation when acquired, allows travel of sixty thousand li in an instant—calculated as one-tenth the speed of light. Particularly useful where spatial suppression prevents ordinary void travel 388.
- Size at Will: Changes his body’s size, from minute forms to enormous manifestations 391.
- Spirit Roaming and Qi Control: Can support divided-spirit methods when combined with arts such as One Star, Nine Luminaries 391.
- Flying Body and Tracelessness: Traverses space and helps bypass opponents’ Divine Treasure barriers 391 403 407.
- Scatter Beans to Form Soldiers: Acquired among the Zhongliang Kingdom Capital rewards 391.
- Six Jia and Qimen: Supplies over ten thousand spells covering medicine, divination, formations, restrictions, and other disciplines. Its breadth requires sustained study rather than immediate practical mastery 396.
- Seven Nailhead Arrows: One of the two abilities he identifies as decisive in killing Zhou Qiren 403.
Drawing Out Primordial Yang
A central combat ability that drains an opponent’s Primordial Yang and supports his own endurance 104 105 111.
- Establishes a Primordial Yang Domain and can drain through contact mediated by True Qi, though less efficiently than more direct contact 105.
- Supports the Primordial Yang Indestructible Body, allowing rapid recovery from repeated sword wounds 104 105.
- Can nurture his own primordial yang and expand his Blood Sea; this process initially has a daily limit 123.
- Chen Qingyu credits understanding its true use with making his Immortal Altar victories possible 111.
Physical Strength and Body Refinement
Combines body-refining methods with Subduing Dragons and Taming Tigers, later adding the Gravity Tempering Method and Ancestral Witch Body 24 123 248.
- Early stacking increases his strength almost tenfold and lets him crush a ten-thousand-jin stone weight effortlessly 24.
- Defeats Chen Qinggu through superior durability and stamina despite taking substantially more blows 27.
- Crushes a True Gang Realm spiritual art barehanded without even scorching his skin 167.
- Uses concentrated physical attacks to pierce the defenses of massed battle formations 79.
Stellar Cultivation and Primal Magnetism

- Great Radiance Heaven-Suppressing Fist: His initial offensive martial technique 10.
- Great Radiance Body Refining Method: His initial defensive and body-refining technique 10.
- Celestial Star Attraction Method: His initial movement technique, wielding Celestial Star Primal Magnetism 10 26.
- Learns to counter or reverse Chen Qinggu’s Earth Star Primal Magnetism and later consolidates Qinggu’s instruction 26 33.
- His Ziwei-based foundation preserves access to Taihao secret arts while increasing their power 274.
Flying Sand and Moving Stones
An area-attack divine ability that he frequently combines with aerial movement 18 27.
- Bombards grounded opponents while his auspicious cloud keeps him beyond most attacks’ reach 17 18.
- Initially consumes seventy to eighty percent of his Star True Qi when sustained for seven or eight breaths 18.
- Develops Formless Sandstorm, concealing nearly transparent sand among blizzards, hailstones, and ice blades 76.
- Against Wang Jue’s superior sword technique, he withdraws the sandstorm and other ineffective abilities to conserve energy 104.
Dao of Myriad Calamities
His self-developed path unifies his diverse powers instead of leaving them as disconnected techniques 289 304 308.
- Converts stellar, fire, lightning, wind, snow, decline, and other powers into corresponding calamities 304 308.
- Uses Doomsday Heavenly Calamity as the core of his innate divine ability upon reaching the Divine Ability Realm 377.
- Eventually evolves all his divine abilities and secret arts into calamities 457.
- Opens the Myriad Calamity Divine Treasure, producing the Power of Myriad Calamities 485 486.
- Creates the Calamity Fortune and Creation True Scripture to accommodate his complex mastery of laws without sacrificing his existing cultivation 665 668.
Words Become Law
An innate divine ability obtained at Emperor Yuan Palace that makes spoken declarations affect reality 336.
- Demonstrates it by declaring that there should be light, illuminating his cultivation chamber 336.
- Its scope depends on his own strength; even the demonstration rapidly drains his True Gang power 336.
Eight-Nine Profound Art and Vajra Defenses
Employs the Eight-Nine Profound Art in his later confrontation with Wu Chenkong 538.
- Vajra Divine Body: Breaks Wu Chenkong’s golden Dragon Qi defense 538.
- Three Heads and Six Arms: Enables a sustained, overwhelming close-quarters assault 538.
- Vajra Indestructibility clones: Tests six clones against Quasi-Emperor Tianmiao’s Dissolution of All Things. They are destroyed, but their resistance delays complete disintegration and demonstrates a chance of survival 605.
Sword Techniques
Uses a flying sword empowered by a wisp of the Nine Hells Heavenly Punishment Sword’s sword soul 286.
- Can release successive layers of the sword soul’s power to increase the flying sword’s might during battle 286.
- Defeats Wang Haotong’s attempt to gradually entangle and exhaust the sword by abruptly doubling its power 286.
Pangu’s True Body and Hongmeng’s Hidden Power
Receives Pangu’s True Body at the Yellow Court Realm and masters the Supreme Law of Creation as the Twelve Ancestral Witches unite within him 830.
- Recognizes and counters the Lord of the Yellow Court’s attempt to possess him 830.
- Reveals that he is not merely a vessel: Dao Ancestor Hongmeng’s concealed power is part of the trap laid for the Lord 830.
- Hongmeng’s power erases the Lord of the Yellow Court, ending the threat of the Final Calamity 830.
- Chooses restraint afterward, suppressing his inherited eternal body until he can properly handle it 830.
