History
Foundation and Isolation
Emperor Yuan established the palace after becoming a Quasi-Emperor and gaining recognition as the Desolate Continent’s common ruler. He created the Saint Yuan Minor Realm and settled large numbers of people displaced by war there, including members of different races carrying distinguished bloodlines and inheritances 9 309 330.
Over thirty thousand years, his disciples, their students, and their descendants developed the palace into a power greater than any individual holy land on the continent. Despite its strength, it remained separate from outside disputes, maintaining contact chiefly through the Dragon Gate Dharma Assembly 9 309 330.
Its isolation rested partly on a balance of power. According to the Ninth Ancestor, Emperor Yuan could not overcome the Supreme Void Eternal World Mirror’s might. The holy lands therefore honored him as their nominal sovereign while retaining practical control of the continent 306 309.
Rule by the Disciples
Several hundred years before Chen Qingyu’s visit, Emperor Yuan stopped managing the palace and minor realm, leaving their affairs to his disciples. By the thirty-sixth Dragon Gate Dharma Assembly, he had also stopped receiving visitors for a century, and the three Saint Kings controlled the event’s arrangements 332 337 347.
Chen Qingyu and Chang Ziqiu concluded that the palace intended to demonstrate its superior cultivation system and disciples’ strength to undermine the holy lands’ authority. Its invitation to Sage Evolution Palace publicly exposed a connection that Chen Qingyu challenged before the assembled prodigies 339 340 353 354.
Chen Qingyu’s victory at the assembly damaged the palace’s reputation. He also obtained Emperor Yuan’s decree and summoned the Chen Clan’s ancestors, forcing Saint King Tianchen to return Saint King Chenliu’s missing remains without an immediate war 374 375 422.
Expansion onto the Desolate Continent
After the assembly, the palace opened twenty-four permanent gates and dispatched envoys to the major holy lands. Emperor Yuan’s prestige and the appeal of the Saint Yuan Minor Realm’s cultivation system helped it attract support while the holy lands struggled to unite 422.
The Yama Holy Land and Tianhe Luo Clan subsequently joined its camp. Relations with most other holy lands deteriorated, with increasingly frequent friction during the months before open warfare 492 494.
War under Saint King Tianchen
Following Emperor Yuan’s death, Saint King Tianchen became the palace’s second master and announced a campaign to conquer the Desolate Continent. He led an attack on Divine Capital Changluo, while Saint King Langgu attacked and destroyed the Three Xuan Minor Realm and its insectkind inhabitants 499 508.
Tianchen returned gravely injured after his defeat by Chen Qingyu. The palace initially withdrew into the Saint Yuan Minor Realm, then pursued additional strength by reviving dead Saint Kings as Corpse Demons. It also used the Yama Holy Land and Tianhe Luo Clan to subjugate powers in the Northern Region 508 520 522 524 525.
Its renewed offensive fielded five Saint Kings and forty to fifty Extreme Transformation Realm Saints. Although Emperor Yuan’s treasures allowed its leaders to isolate Chen Qingyu’s Great Void Might, the campaign ended in a crushing defeat. Tianchen died, Langgu and Danzhu fled, and Chen Qingyu killed dozens of palace Saints who sought surrender after killing members of the Holy Land Alliance 524 525 531 532.
Surrender and Survival
Chen Qingyu then breached the palace’s protective formation with one strike. Elder Si Mobai emerged with the remaining elders and revealed that Langgu and Danzhu had abandoned the palace and crossed the sea 533.
Chen Qingyu spared the remaining members, ordered them to guard the gateway and maintain order in the Saint Yuan Minor Realm, and later allowed the palace to join the Holy Land Alliance under temporary supervision. He also refined its formation core and took control of the grand formation 533 543.
During his subsequent investigation of Emperor Yuan’s missing remains, Chen Qingyu discovered that the founder’s inner demon had taken over his body after death and departed. The palace’s lineage nevertheless survived: its Saints were among those received by Chen Qingyu after his later return to the continent 545 685.
Headquarters and Territory
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Saint Yuan Minor Realm | An independent world created by Emperor Yuan, spanning hundreds of millions of li 309 330. |
| Cultivation environment | Heaven and Earth Origin Qi is ten times denser than on the Desolate Continent 334. |
| Palace complex | Extends for several thousand li, incorporating mountains, rivers, lakes, towers, terraces, and waterside pavilions 334 335. |
| Population | More than ten million people reside within the vast palace complex 338. |
| Protective formation | Personally overseen by Emperor Yuan. Chen Qingyu judged that, with a Saint King and the founder’s treasures supporting it, breaching it would have required a prolonged assault 533. |
| Dragon Gate | Restricted entrance leading to Emperor Yuan’s secluded residence, a valley containing a stream and a small three-story building 370. |
- Restricted areas: Guests may explore nearby grounds but cannot enter forbidden areas without permission 335.
- Guest accommodation: Human prodigies are housed separately from other races to reduce the risk of conflict; magical bells summon attendants 335.
- Formation architecture: Decorative patterns and murals conceal spiritual patterns and formation diagrams throughout the complex 335.
Organization and Leadership
Governing Structure
| Position or body | Function |
|---|---|
| Palace Master | Emperor Yuan founded the organization; Saint King Tianchen formally succeeded him after his death 499. |
| Three Origins Hall | Highest governing body, where the three Saint Kings discuss palace affairs 346. |
| Three Saint Kings | Tianchen, Langgu, and Danzhu directed the palace’s major decisions and wielded Emperor Yuan’s three supreme treasures during the war 347 499. |
| Duty officers | Trusted confidants of the three Saint Kings who can represent their position. The officer sent to Chen Qingyu was a Divine Treasure Realm cultivator 346. |
| Direct-line successors | Emperor Yuan’s disciples and subsequent generations of their lineage; only a few hundred existed among the palace’s enormous population 338. |
| Externally instructed disciples | Cultivate the palace’s methods without belonging to Emperor Yuan’s direct lineage; some eventually become senior palace figures 337 353. |
Notable Members
- Emperor Yuan — Founder and first master. He opposed his disciples’ interference with his Corpse Demon research but admitted that he could no longer control them 371.
- Saint King Tianchen — Strongest and highest-ranking disciple, known as the Child of the New Calendar. Became the second palace master and died during the war against Chen Qingyu 353 499 532.
- Saint King Langgu — Led the destruction of the Three Xuan Minor Realm; later fled across the sea 499 508 533.
- Saint King Danzhu — Initially guarded the palace during Tianchen’s offensive; later escaped with Langgu 499 533.
- Si Mobai — Elder who negotiated the remaining members’ surrender and received Chen Qingyu’s postwar terms 533 543.
- Chen Changchun — Palace combatant with a distant connection to the Chen Clan who rejected identification with it. Chen Qingyu defeated him with Doomsday Heavenly Calamity 359.
Strength and Internal Hierarchy
- Before the war: The Ninth Ancestor knew of nine surviving personal disciples of Emperor Yuan, all in the Extreme Transformation Realm; three were Saint Kings 330.
- Additional experts: Granddisciples, later descendants, and dependent forces included numerous Void Penetration and Extreme Transformation Realm cultivators 330.
- Attendant ranks: White-robed personnel appear to distinguish rank through patterns and gold trim on their cuffs, collars, and hems 335.
- Internal divisions: Chen Qingyu suspected that the three Saint Kings differed over whether to probe his strength before the assembly or wait to confront him during it 345.
Cultivation System
Open Access to Inheritances
Unlike the Desolate Continent’s holy lands, which closely guard their legacies, the Saint Yuan Minor Realm makes cultivation arts, martial techniques, divine abilities, and secret arts publicly available 338.
- Talent over status: A sufficiently talented cultivator can practice Emperor Yuan’s own cultivation art regardless of social standing 338.
- Principal scripture: The Myriad Origins Life-Seizing Void-Crossing True Scripture points toward the Emperor Venerable realm 367 438.
- Political appeal: Chen Qingyu recognized the accessibility and competitiveness of this system as a major reason for the palace’s growing outside support 422.
Yuan-Seizing Method
The palace’s Yuan-Seizing Method allows exceptional cultivators to exceed ordinary foundational limits 338.
| Achievement | Significance |
|---|---|
| Seizing one or two yuan | Marks an exceptional talent; only a few thousand such cultivators exist within the palace 338. |
| Seizing more than ten yuan | Qualifies a cultivator to become a disciple of one of Emperor Yuan’s disciples and enter the direct lineage 338. |
| Seizing more than one hundred yuan in the Golden Bridge Realm | Reported requirement for attaining the Divine Shore Realm. Only about a dozen cultivators in the minor realm achieved it over thirty thousand years 338. |
Dragon Gate Dharma Assembly
- Purpose: Invites outstanding young cultivators of every race to compete, receive rewards, and potentially become Emperor Yuan’s personal disciples 9.
- Selection: Uses the Supreme Void Dao Realm to identify leading talents; selected prodigies receive Emperor Yuan Edicts 9 309.
- Frequency: Held at irregular intervals of several hundred to roughly a thousand years 309.
- Traditional rewards: Dao instruction from Emperor Yuan, immortal pills, divine medicines, natural treasures, and prizes for highly ranked competitors 9.
- Access: Before the palace opened permanent gates, the assembly was its only regular connection with the outside world and the route available to invited visitors 309.
Thirty-Sixth Assembly
- Changed leadership: Emperor Yuan did not personally preside; his disciples controlled the event 347 353.
- Changed competition: Palace successors competed against outside prodigies, unlike earlier assemblies in which palace cultivators did not participate 339 353.
- Sage Evolution Palace invitation: Its representatives openly attended with the palace’s backing despite Chen Qingyu’s accusation that its core members were Corpse Demons 353 354 355.
- Outcome: Chen Qingyu took first place, weakening the palace’s attempt to establish unquestioned superiority over the holy lands 376 422.
Treasures and Resources
Emperor Yuan’s Three Supreme Treasures
| Treasure | Wartime wielder | Role and limitations |
|---|---|---|
| Origin-Slaying Heavenly Execution Sword | Saint King Tianchen | Emperor Yuan’s bonded divine weapon. Clashed with Great Void Might above Divine Capital Changluo; later escaped on its own after Tianchen’s defeat 499 502 531. |
| Primordial Harmony Heavenly Crown | Saint King Langgu | Emperor Yuan’s bonded Mystic Artifact, used in the assault on the Three Xuan Minor Realm and the later battle against Chen Qingyu 499 525. |
| Heaven and Earth Mountains and Rivers Pearl | Initially entrusted to Saint King Danzhu | Highly sentient and not fully obedient to the Saint Kings. Could interfere with Great Void struggles, isolate Chen Qingyu’s power, and provide auxiliary protection 499 515 517 525 526. |
- Incomplete mastery: The Saint Kings could not refine these treasures and relied heavily on their independent spirituality. Their use barely reached the Quasi-Emperor threshold; Emperor Yuan himself could have unleashed far greater power 554.
- Retreat: Langgu and Danzhu escaped with the crown and pearl, while the sword departed separately 531 532.
Emperor Yuan’s Treasury
- Contains slightly more than one hundred rare treasures, including weapons, Mystic Artifacts, medicines, cultivation manuals, and spiritual plants 367.
- Notable holdings include a Thirteen Golden Grain Pill, the lifespan-extending Spring of Longevity, and Emperor Yuan’s annotated original of the Myriad Origins Life-Seizing Void-Crossing True Scripture 367.
- A mysterious black stone, inherited from Emperor Yuan’s ancestors, became the object of Chen Qingyu’s transaction with Zhang Yanqing 365 367 371.
External Relations
- Chen Qingyu and the Chen Clan of Changluo — Relations deteriorated over the palace’s political ambitions, its treatment of visiting prodigies, and Tianchen’s possession of Saint King Chenliu’s remains. Chen Qingyu ultimately defeated the palace but preserved its surviving lineage 345 375 499 533.
- Sage Evolution Palace — Temporary ally rather than a creation or subordinate of Emperor Yuan Palace. Both sought the other’s secrets and support while remaining distrustful 365 376.
- Holy Land Alliance — Wartime opponent and eventual supervising power after the palace’s surrender 525 543.
- Yama Holy Land — Joined the palace’s camp and helped extend its control in the Northern Region 492 522.
- Tianhe Luo Clan — Defected to the palace out of fear that its weakness would lead to destruction; later participated in northern expansion 492 522.
Sign-In Location
Emperor Yuan Palace becomes Chen Qingyu’s sixth sign-in location after he exhausts Divine Punishment Valley’s reward pool. Its restricted access initially prevents him from reaching it 297 309.
