What's going on?
Danitz could hardly believe his eyes.
This didn't shock him; instead, it inexplicably terrified him, like jumping into Bucket full of ice after getting drunk, feeling a bone-chilling cold seep in from his feet to his head.
What on earth happened? How could things have become so bizarre? Danitz took a breath, forced himself to turn his head back, and chased after Gehrman Sparrow's retreating figure.
He found that the mad adventurer was walking faster and faster, to the point that he had to jog to keep up.
As he walked through the streets and alleys, Danitz suddenly saw a bluish-green shadow fall from a tree.
With a snap, it writhed its slippery body, covered in scales, its triangular head protruding, and its long, thin, scarlet forked tongue flicking out—it was a venomous snake of considerable size!
Bullshit! How could there be snakes in this season and this weather? Danitz wasn't afraid of these creatures; he'd even roasted and eaten snake meat before. What bothered him was this unusual situation.
Bypassing the venomous snake that was coiled up in place, Danitz subconsciously looked to his left and right, and found pairs of cold, vertical pupils of different colors staring out from inside the drainage ditches on both sides, in the broken corners of the houses, and inside the rusty water pipes.
Danitz instinctively shivered, feeling as if his scalp had been pricked all over with tiny needles.
He dared not linger or leave, and quickened his pace again, keeping close behind Gehrman Sparrow.
As he entered the " Azure Wind " hotel and climbed the wooden stairs, he couldn't help but look up, wanting to ask a question.
Suddenly, he felt a tightness in his chest, and his breathing became labored.
At that moment, he felt as if he had plunged into the seabed, being squeezed from all sides by the heavy current.
Whoosh!
Faintly, Danitz heard the sound of surging tides and saw illusory, layered waves rippling around Gehrman Sparrow, as if forming a boundless, unfathomable blue ocean.
In that ocean, there was a huge, azure-blue figure, like a towering tower, supporting everything.
Danitz's right foot froze in mid-air, unable to step down.
He was familiar with a similar feeling. At the last pirate conference, " King of the Five Seas " Nast was even more majestic and terrifying. Almost all the pirates couldn't lift their heads, and only general-level experts could barely put up a fight.
Danitz knew very well that this was not a true reflection of Gehrman Sparrow's performance.
If the opponent is at that Demigod level, there's absolutely no need to introduce the " Mandated Punishers " when hunting "Iron" Maviti!
Ocean... tide... these two words flashed through Danitz's mind quickly, and then he thought of the rebels' basic belief in the " Sea God " Kavithua.
"Could it be that when Gehrman Sparrow touched that bone sword just now, due to unknown factors, he was cursed by the ' Sea God '? Was the completely dehydrated corpse of the believer one of the conditions for the curse to be activated? Was the coachman kneeling and prostrating himself, kissing the ground, because he sensed the aura of the ' Sea God '?"
"Hiss... Gehrman Sparrow is probably going to die here today... Should I run far away to avoid getting caught in the crossfire, and at most, come back later to collect his body..."
"Perhaps there's still hope. I'll consult the captain about the ' Spirit Summoning Ritual.' She knows so many strange and mysterious arts; she should be able to solve this problem... No, Lord, the condition for the ' Spirit Summoning Ritual ' is within 500 nautical miles. They still need to sail for at least a day and a half to get into that range..."
While racking his brains for a solution, Danitz was no longer so panicked Gehrman Sparrow into the luxurious suite.
Klein remained silent, his deep brown eyes seemingly tinged with a rich, almost black, azure.
He went straight to the bedroom and locked the door with a click.
Danitz stood outside, sometimes wanting to run away, sometimes thinking he could still save the other person.
Inside the bedroom, Klein closed his eyes, waiting for the right opportunity.
Suddenly, he took four steps in reverse, each step accompanied by a recitation.
A series of manic or shrill murmurs quickly reached his ears, and his ethereal spirit rose upwards, disappearing into the Gray Fog.
Without a sound, he heard a piercing, painful howl that defied description.
Klein appeared inside the ancient palace, at the head of the long, weathered table.
From the still, gray Gray Fog below, a phantom-like, enormous cyan-blue sea serpent appeared.
It stood within an ancient, dark ruin, coiled around a half-fallen Pillar, its ferocious head raised, its bloody maw wide open, revealing curved, sharp teeth longer than a human forearm.
Layers of blood and mucus dripped from the milky-white fangs.
The sea serpent thrashed its tail wildly, creating terrifying waves and exaggerated ripples that made the entire ruins sway as if they were about to collapse.
The scene shattered and dimmed rapidly. No matter how much the unimaginably enormous sea serpent struggled, it could not reverse the situation. It could only hiss in agony as it turned into tiny specks of light and vanished into the Gray Fog.
Klein sat in the high-backed chair belonging to " The Fool," quietly observing everything without making any further moves for a long time.
The Gray Fog spread silently, and the scene here seemed unchanged since time immemorial.
After several seconds, Klein leaned back in his chair, sighed softly, and uttered the other person's name:
"' Sea God ' Kavithua..."
Upon touching the bone sword, he sensed something amiss. During his conversation with "Bald" Kalat, he keenly discovered that a subtle yet extremely powerful and sinister force had somehow infiltrated his body and was slowly corrupting his soul.
Klein made a quick decision, turned around and left, then noticed that the eerie power was connecting with its surroundings, gradually growing stronger, and slowly connecting to some unknown place.
Therefore, while he was distracted by the corrosive influence, he also controlled himself, avoiding interaction with his surroundings.
Klein believed that if he reacted to the anomalies along the way, the erosion would intensify, perhaps even become irreversible.
He originally intended to find a nearby restroom and use the Gray Fog to shield and isolate the evil and cold power, but after careful consideration, he decided to stay away from that area, because there were many " Sea God " believers around, which could very likely cause an accident.
During this process, Klein also realized that if he "expelled" it in advance, some of the power projected by " Sea God " Kavithua would remain in his flesh and blood, with unknown consequences and effects.
He had no choice but to patiently wait for the right opportunity, waiting for that cold and sinister power to completely penetrate his soul so that he could be " Purification " in one fell swoop.
After reflecting on the whole incident, Klein tapped his fingers lightly on the edge of the table and muttered to himself:
"Not that strong..."
The rank of " Sea God " was much lower than he had imagined!
His original plan was to use the same method he used to deal with Amon " Sea God " Kavithua projection that was trying to erode his soul and seize his body. However, before he could even integrate with the " Black Emperor " card and throw out the Paper Angel, the other party was directly dispelled by the Gray Fog, leaving no trace.
Based on this, Klein concluded that " Sea God " Kavithua was of a lower rank than " Blasphemer " Amon, although the latter may have been more adept at intrusion, but at that time he was only an avatar.
Was he knocked down from his level by the " Lord of Storms," or was he merely a powerful Demigod who wasn't even at the Angel level, but could respond to his followers within a certain range? Klein recalled with doubt, discovering that the " Sea God " Kavithua's condition was quite abnormal:
"The foundation of this evil spirit's existence is extremely fragile, seemingly on the verge of collapse at any moment..."
"Moreover, it and the ruins it inhabits have a sense of being connected with the Spirit World. Is that why it escaped the Church of Storms's siege?"
Klein leaned back in his chair, a vague guess forming in his mind.
"What happened today was no accident. It all stemmed from the fact that the Archaeologist Latiz took away an important item from the Forgotten Temple, which caused the already fragile ' Sea God ' Kavithua to deteriorate rapidly and become unable to sustain its existence for long..."
"While it was having its followers retrieve the item, it was also preparing for possession and survival. That bone sword must have originated from its Demigod body, concealing a portion of its projected power. As long as the target was suitable, it would invade the toucher's body, corrupt the soul, establish coordinates, and allow its own spirit to transfer there before dissipating..."
"However, it's clearly not good at this kind of thing. Well, it's not Mercury Snake, it can't self-cycle and reincarnate, nor is it like ' The Blasphemer ' Amon, who can reside in other people's souls. If it were to truly take over this body, it would only cause the flesh and blood to completely collapse, creating a terrifying Monster."
Following this logic, Kavithua, on the verge of complete annihilation, will likely do many more crazy things... Klein frowned slightly, then, without further delay, plunged into the Gray Fog and returned to the real world.
He unlocked the door, opened it, and entered the living room, startling Danitz, who was pacing back and forth.
Danitz looked him up and down several times, then asked cautiously and warily:
"Are you alright?"
Klein maintained his Gehrman Sparrow persona and calmly replied:
"Resolved."
Solved? Danitz looked left and right, then glanced at the bedroom, doubting that his previous feelings were all illusions and that there was no " Sea God's" curse at all.
What was he doing in the bedroom? He lifted the " Sea God's" curse in just a minute or two? Wow, this guy has some big secrets... Danitz took two steps back and made way for him.
Beside a table cluttered with miscellaneous items, the bald-headed Kalat, sitting in an iron wheelchair, said to the tattooed man Edmonton with a regretful expression:
"What a pity."
"Just a hair's breadth... He didn't pick it up, he merely touched it," Edmonton sighed in agreement.
Kalat stared at the slightly bent bone sword and muttered to himself with fanaticism:
"When an outsider takes up this holy sword, the gods will reappear on earth..."
Edmonton then knelt down, seemingly confessing to the gods.
As time ticked by, Kalat and Edmonton suddenly heard two screams.
They looked up and saw two of their companions lying flat on the ground, their skin like weathered rock, devoid of all moisture.
Kalat and Edmonton exchanged a glance, sensing an unusual atmosphere.
The two of them straightened up at the same time and looked at the table.
The milky-white holy sword cracked open with a snap, shattering into countless small pieces.
