After waking in Klein Moretti’s body, Zhou Mingrui uses a ritual to summon Audrey Hall and Alger Wilson into the gray-fog realm and forms the Tarot Club. As Klein, he joins the Nighthawks to investigate the deaths tied to the Antigonus Family Notebook, then returns to them after sensing he is being watched.
Klein chose the Seer pathway, joined the Nighthawks’ investigations, and began learning divination and mysticism while pursuing the Antigonus Family Notebook. After helping rescue a kidnapped boy, he discovered that the notebook’s trail led to Riel Bieber and ended the arc preparing to watch Old Neil use ritual magic.
Klein develops his divination skills, explains potion acting to Audrey and Alger, and confirms that he can answer their prayers through the gray fog. The Nighthawks confront Riel Bieber and a pair of Clowns, and Klein uses Sealed Artifact 2-049 to trap one of them after Riel’s destruction leaves the team incapacitated.
Klein became a full Nighthawk, handled supernatural threats involving Selena and Sir Deville, and pursued clues to the Clown potion and his strange fate. The arc left him with a portrait of a witness who might connect the Antigonus Family Notebook to the potion formula.
Klein tracked the Antigonus Family Notebook’s clues, established contact with the Psychology Alchemists, and joined a Nighthawk investigation into a wave of deaths. The team disrupted a curse ritual, but Trissy escaped, leaving Klein to pursue her identity and whereabouts.
Klein completed his Seer advancement, encountered the City of Silver through the gray fog, and learned more about the Acting Method while investigating a wraith and Azik’s past. The arc ended with Azik recognizing his child’s remains and asking Klein to help find the missing skull before he left Tingen.
Klein investigated strange hauntings, witnessed Old Neil’s fall into madness, and passed the Holy Cathedral’s examination to become a Sequence 8 Clown. The arc left him using his new abilities in police work while investigating Lanarvus’s connection to the mad Hood Eugen and attempting to summon a messenger.
Klein and the Tarot Club helped bring Qilangos’s assassination plot in Backlund to an end, while Klein investigated Lanarvus and uncovered the Demoness Sect’s presence in Tingen. The fight with Madam Shermane killed Kenley, and Klein’s final discovery left Dunn beside Kenley’s bloodied corpse.
After Ince Zangwill’s plot killed Dunn and Klein in Tingen, Klein revived, identified Ince as his enemy, and left for Backlund. There he established himself as a private detective, advanced Audrey to Mind Reader, and began investigating the disappearance and murder of Zerrell.
Klein’s search for Ian Wright drew him into a dangerous contest with Intis ambassador Bakerland, while Audrey arranged an assassination through Xio and Fors. The arc ended with the Shepherd killing Bakerland and Sergeant Faxin warning Klein to beware of strangers.
Klein survived Rosago’s attempt to seize his body, investigated a dangerous underground sanctuary, and created The World as his Tarot Club identity. As he pursued new clues in Backlund, he sold potion formulas and obtained a Beyonder weapon for Derrick.
Klein helped expose and kill Lanarvus, then advanced to Magician after the Tarot Club secured the needed ingredients. A Blood Moon brought Fors into the Club, and Klein took on a new case when a spirit haunted Adol.
Klein investigated the serial murders while obtaining the Apothecary formula and uncovering the Master Key’s origins. With Audrey’s help, he stole Roselle’s Card of Blasphemy from the museum, but the mysterious woman who confronted him and the murder investigation remained unresolved.
Klein investigated the dangers surrounding the Master Key, gained new allies and Sun-domain weapons, and helped Sharron and Maric ambush the Wraith Steve. The arc ended with Steve being dragged toward Sharron’s mysterious door as Klein fired a final volley of bullets.
Klein dealt with Amon’s attempt to reach the gray fog, investigated Emlyn White, and helped uncover the hardships facing East Borough residents. The arc ended with Klein tracing missing Daisy to Capim’s dangerous home while protecting Fors from divination.
Klein rescued Daisy and killed Capim, while his investigation into Will Auceptin and the Tarot Club’s dealings revealed dangers tied to the City of Silver, Amon, and the Abraham Family. The arc ended with Derrick fighting Dark after discovering the explorer’s corruption, leaving Chief Colin to investigate what had happened.
Klein investigated the Apostle of Desire after a string of threats and murders, while the hunt was misled by Patrick Jason Beria’s identity and human-skin disguises. Arrodes located the real Apostle in a Backlund villa just as he prepared to attack Duke Negan.
After the Apostle of Desire killed Duke Negan, Klein uncovered the Hermits of Fate’s involvement and pursued the ingredients needed to advance. The Machinery Hivemind’s expedition uncovered Amon’s portrait and a passage to the Abyss, while Klein arranged to buy the Human-skinned Shadow characteristic and Wind-blessed formula.
Klein advanced to Faceless and became entangled in the City of Silver’s repeating exploration, while Emlyn joined the Fool’s secret gathering and Audrey warned her mother about Trissy Cheek. Trissy’s flight exposed the danger around Prince Edessak, and Klein ended the stretch fleeing through an underground passage as a ritual began nearby.
Klein helped disrupt the rituals behind the Great Smog, then left Backlund to search for mermaids and pursue his own advancement. Aboard the White Agate and in Damir Port, he heard sea legends and found that the harbor’s dangers included scams as well as pirates.
