Who Exactly Was That Person?

Fang Yuan gripped his pistol, aimed it at Wei Hailong, and demanded, "Don't move. Tell me the truth. What's your connection to the Spear of God?"

"What connection could I possibly have to an overseas Awakener organization?" Wei Hailong countered in his defense.

"If you aren't a member of the Spear of God, why did you go to the hospital that day?" Fang Yuan continued.

"I told you that day. I went to have a wound treated."

"Liar! I saw you in the inpatient ward that day. Since when did the inpatient ward handle dressing wounds?"

"All I did was visit the inpatient ward. That doesn't prove anything." Wei Hailong frowned, concealing something in his words.

Seeing him evade the question, Fang Yuan snorted. "If that isn't enough, you were looking up information about the 'Awakening Inducer' on the computer at noon today, weren't you?"

"Yes, I did look it up. But that doesn't prove I have any connection to the Spear of God, does it?" Wei Hailong admitted this much.

"You were certainly careful. You closed the webpage when you saw me. But you forgot to delete your browsing history. After class, I checked the browsing history on the lecture hall's computer. What you were reading had to do with the black market selling 'Awakening Inducers.'"

Wei Hailong took a deep breath and admitted, "Yes, I did look into the black market. What does that prove?"

"You thought one dose of 'Awakening Inducer' wasn't enough to poison my sister to death, so you wanted to buy another?" Fang Yuan conjectured.

"You suspect I used an 'Awakening Inducer' on your sister?" Wei Hailong finally understood why Fang Yuan had suddenly attacked him.

"Didn't you?" Fang Yuan shot back.

"I only looked up information about the 'Awakening Inducer.' I've never bought any, much less harmed your sister." Wei Hailong felt these reasons weren't sufficient.

Fang Yuan twitched the corner of his mouth. "Unfortunately for you, I happened to get some additional intelligence. Around the start of the school term, a member of the Spear of God arrived in Donghai City. And that was exactly when you came to No. 1 High School as an instructor. The timing matches perfectly."

"Couldn't that just be a coincidence? If a school hires a new instructor, of course they'd bring him in at the start of term to teach the students," Wei Hailong argued.

"If all of that is speculation, then what about this!"

Fang Yuan took the sheet of paper out of his pocket, held it up in front of him, and read its contents aloud. "'Nothing unusual about Fang Zhenguo's family. No sign of the item lost twenty years ago.' You wrote this. What else do you have to say?"

"That's a military work log. You aren't allowed to read it!" Wei Hailong's expression grew stern, and he reached out to take the paper back.

"Don't move!" Fang Yuan pointed the gun at him, a vicious gleam in his eyes.

Seeing that look in Fang Yuan's eyes, Wei Hailong couldn't help frowning.

He had fought in many bloody battles during his military service and knew that look all too well. The killing intent in those eyes could only belong to someone who had killed before.

Worried Fang Yuan might actually shoot, he hurriedly tried to calm him down. "Don't get worked up. Listen to me. I'm an officer in the Huaxia Navy Landing Operations Force, absolutely not a member of the Spear of God. The military can verify my identity."

"I've already found a way to check. I'll have the results soon," Fang Yuan said.

Wei Hailong finally understood what was going on. He slowly exhaled, sat down on the sofa, and said, "You had your dad check my identity, didn't you?"

"You certainly know a lot about my family. That's right. Unfortunately for you, my dad once served in the Huaxia Navy Landing Operations Force."

Fang Yuan had long known that the Spear of God had been hiring forces in Donghai to investigate his entire family, so Wei Hailong's words didn't surprise him at all.

"Then call home and ask whether your father has found my records," Wei Hailong urged.

So far, although many clues suggested Wei Hailong might be a member of the Spear of God, it was only suspicion. There was no solid evidence.

After some thought, Fang Yuan took out his phone to call Comrade Old Fang.

Before he could dial, however, Fang Zhenguo called him first.

Fang Yuan answered and held the phone to his ear, his eyes fixed on Wei Hailong.

Fang Zhenguo's voice came through the phone. "I just called that old comrade of mine. He's found the records on your new instructor."

"Get to the point." Fang Yuan kept his words brief, his eyes still fixed on Wei Hailong.

Fang Zhenguo began rattling off a string of details, but none of them was the key information.

Fang Yuan interrupted him. "What ability is listed in his records?"

"His ability is called Star Power Flash," Fang Zhenguo replied.

Hearing that ability, Fang Yuan immediately frowned.

Identity information and even appearances could be faked, but abilities couldn't be changed.

Besides, he had seen the ability "Star Power Flash" through Iris Data. There could be no mistake.

Unless the Spear of God had specifically found a member with the "Star Power Flash" ability to impersonate Wei Hailong.

But that was highly unlikely.

To be safe, Fang Yuan still asked, "Is there a photo?"

"Yes."

"Send it over."

Fang Yuan hung up and waited for Fang Zhenguo to send the photo.

A dozen or so seconds later, the photo arrived.

Fang Yuan opened it and took a look, his brows drawing even tighter. "You really aren't a member of the Spear of God?"

"Of course not," Wei Hailong said, spreading his hands.

Fang Yuan put away the Glock first, but still kept a safe distance from him. "Then why were you looking up black-market information on the 'Awakening Inducer'? That stuff has a mortality rate of over ninety percent. No normal person would buy it."

"Because I'm also investigating the Spear of God member hiding in Donghai City. The 'Awakening Inducer' is a very low-grade drug. Members of the Spear of God wouldn't carry something like that. If a Spear of God member injected your sister with an 'Awakening Inducer,' they probably bought it in Donghai," Wei Hailong explained.

Fang Yuan stared into his eyes and asked again, "This is my family's business. What does it have to do with you?"

"All right. Since you already know so many secrets, I'll tell you a few things. Besides serving as an instructor, I came to Donghai on another assignment: to track down a member of the Spear of God and investigate something the navy lost twenty years ago," Wei Hailong explained.

Fang Yuan's gaze sharpened. He knew Wei Hailong meant the Triangular Star Core, but still pressed, "What thing?"

Wei Hailong scrutinized Fang Yuan with a piercing gaze. Only after a moment did he ask, "You really don't know what it is?"

"How would I know what you're talking about?" Fang Yuan immediately denied it.

"That item has something to do with your father. The Spear of God member suspects it's in your father's possession. That's why he came to Donghai. My assignment is to track down the Spear of God member in Donghai and find a way to recover the item lost twenty years ago."

At this point, Wei Hailong paused, then continued solemnly, "All right. I've told you everything you're allowed to know. In short, I'm not a member of the Spear of God. Like you, I'm tracking this person down."

After confirming that Wei Hailong wasn't a member of the Spear of God.

Fang Yuan frowned in thought.

If the Spear of God member hiding in Donghai City wasn't Wei Hailong, who exactly was he?

To mix an "Awakening Inducer" into Fang Xiaozhu's food, he must have visited the hospital.

Apart from doctors and nurses, the only people who could freely enter and leave the hospital without arousing suspicion were patients.

Whichever of those identities this Spear of God member had assumed, he must still be at the hospital until his mission was complete.

"What happened?" Wei Hailong got into the taxi after him and pressed for an answer.

"If you aren't the Spear of God member, then the Spear of God member is very likely at the hospital. He definitely won't give up."

While urging the driver to go, Fang Yuan dialed Fang Zhenguo's cell phone.

He wanted to warn him to stay by Xiaozhu's side and not leave her for even a second.

But the phone kept ringing, and no one answered.
