Background / History

Xie Feng is a transmigrator whose previous life ended in a car accident. His soul entered an abandoned infant, whom the Xuanji Sect’s master adopted as his final disciple. He grew up on Xuanji Mountain alongside two senior brothers, teaching himself martial arts and alchemy from the sect’s cultivation tower and pill chambers 1.

Ten years before his first appearance, his master entrusted the sect to him and entered seclusion. Xie Feng initially understood his master’s apparent indolence as neglect. Much later, he learned that Mu Bingxing had been severely injured and was recovering while hiding from Xie Tu’s pursuit, changing his understanding of the man who raised him 1 868.

His search for his origins eventually identifies him as the son of Xie Xuanyuan and Mu Yueheng. Xie Xuanyuan had been the Xie main family’s head, while Mu Yueheng had served as an elder. Their deaths, Mu Bingxing’s injuries, and Xie Tu’s rise to power become central to Xie Feng’s investigations in the Land of Chaos 868 924 948.

Appearance

  • Face and bearing: Young and handsome, with an easygoing expression at his first appearance; later described as an elegant, learned gentleman 1 795.
  • Clothing: Frequently wears blue robes 1 307.
  • Chaos Golden Mark: A mysterious golden rune appears between his brows during his god-level breakthrough 696 699.
  • Moon Marks: Jin Yue places three marks on his arm so she can sense his whereabouts 614.

Personality

Xie Feng is relaxed, self-assured, and often teasing. He prefers drinking tea quietly to participating in empty social exchanges, and remains composed when publicly challenged by powerful figures. His confidence can become deliberate provocation, as when he tells Ning Xuantian that his appearance signals the end of the older ruler’s era 202 205 340.

He values independent learning and personal principles. When the Star Clan’s city lord refuses to let commoner youths attend Pill Maple Academy, Xie Feng rejects the premise of unequal rights and leaves rather than compromise his beliefs. He does not claim an ambition to reform the entire society 279 335.

His warmth toward family and friends coexists with ruthlessness toward enemies. He regards his master and senior brothers as family, protects Sushang, and takes responsibility for vulnerable companions. Against hostile opponents, he kills decisively and openly argues that mercy toward an enemy can become cruelty toward oneself 300 354 614 774.

He is also an opportunistic negotiator. He exchanges assistance for providence, demands compensation after conflicts, and adopts contradictory positions when dealing with rival Demon-Burying Clan factions. His apparent sincerity can therefore be a diplomatic weapon rather than a statement of his actual loyalties 137 591 779 780 781.

  • Burns Xie Feng’s own energy to capture the target’s energy, creating a substantial drain despite the power gained 387 388.
  • Can be resisted when the gap between combatants is sufficiently large 388.

Chaos Cultivation Technique

Mu Bingxing provides this ten-form technique, beginning with Enter Chaos 511.

  • Comprehending the first form causes energy to condense within Xie Feng and raises him three stages 512.
  • Serves as a life-saving trump card against Meiying 604.
  • His master warns him not to reveal it unless his life is in danger 604.
