Background

Ye Qingyun transmigrated into a cultivation world ten years before the opening chapter. An invisible barrier confined him to a mountaintop, where the Sainthood System taught him music, chess, calligraphy, painting, sciences, engineering, cooking, and animal husbandry—but never cultivation. After mastering its lessons, he received the title All-Purpose Saint 1.

The barrier eventually vanished, allowing him to leave Floating Cloud Mountain. Almost immediately, the system severed its bond with him as punishment for urinating wherever he pleased. His excitement about exploring the world quickly gave way to fear: realizing he had no cultivation, he returned home rather than risk encountering danger 1 2.

Appearance

  • General appearance: A plain, unremarkable young man, with no visible indication of an extraordinary background 8 31.
  • Cultivation presence: Cultivators cannot detect cultivation fluctuations from him. Some correctly identify him as a mortal; others interpret the same absence as evidence of immeasurable power 2 8 11.
  • Combat attire: During Guo Xiaoyun’s rescue, he wears a bulletproof vest and steel helmet and carries firearms 35 37.

Personality

Ye Qingyun is deeply cautious about his own safety. He fears cultivators, tries to cultivate friendships with powerful figures for protection, and readily admits that he cannot fight an army. When threatened directly, he may plead, lie about his identity, or bluff rather than attempt an open confrontation 5 11 31 36 44.

His caution does not prevent him from helping others. Despite believing that confronting evil cultivators could cost him his life, he arms himself and sets out to rescue Guo Xiaoyun. He also treats Bai Suyi’s illness and connects Chu Yanyu with people capable of protecting her family 14 15 29 35.

After ten years of isolation, he welcomes company and enjoys a lively household. He freely offers visitors food and produce, often without understanding their extraordinary value. His practical tastes also differ sharply from those of cultivators: when given a famous sword and precious armor, he privately wishes the emperor had brought something edible instead 2 5 6 15 49.

Abilities & Skills

Cultivation Status

Ye Qingyun has no documented cultivation realm or breakthrough in the supplied chapters. His accomplishments come from system-taught skills, equipment, and extraordinary effects surrounding his household—not an established cultivation progression 1 2 42 50.

  • He cannot teach Guo Xiaoyun cultivation and instead offers to arrange admission to a cultivation sect 39.
  • He needs ordinary sleep and becomes exhausted after telling stories late into the night 18.
  • Damao and the rabbit secretly protect him, contributing to observers’ belief that he possesses hidden strength 20 32.
  • He explicitly excludes cultivation when boasting that there is nothing he cannot do 50.

Four Arts

System training brought his guqin playing, chess, calligraphy, and painting to an exceptionally high level 50.

  • Calligraphy: Handles running, regular, and cursive scripts with grandmaster-level proficiency. Xiao Shi is captivated by his handwriting 20.
  • Painting: Produces artwork that Shen Tianhua identifies as containing a supreme Great Dao 21.
  • Poetry and painting: The poem accompanying his lotus painting triggers Shen Tianhua’s breakthrough, restoring vitality and extending his lifespan 25.
  • Guqin: Even casual plucking produces beautiful music that nearly entrances Guo Xiaoyun and draws the attention of arriving cultivators 50.

Storytelling

Ye Qingyun draws on stories remembered from his former world, particularly The Legend of the Condor Heroes 16.

  • Captivates a teahouse audience and outshines the experienced storyteller Old Huang 16 17.
  • Offers to pass the complete story to Old Huang so the audience can continue hearing it without his daily attendance 17.
  • Writes a shortened version for Xiao Shi in exchange for being released from her carriage 20.

Cooking, Tea, and Agriculture

His apparently ordinary household products have substantial effects on cultivators, though he generally does not recognize their value 2 3 5 26.

Product or skill Documented effect
Tea Tea he grows and pan-roasts produces pure spiritual liquid; the system awarded him the title Tea Sage 3.
Grapes Bring the previously untalented Xiaoqing to middle-stage Spirit Opening and push Chu Yanyu toward great perfection 3.
Garden produce Includes seven-leaf vermilion fruit and a tree the Mystic Sword Sect disciples identify as innate mystic fruit; Ye Qingyun considers the latter ordinary pears 5.
Hot pot Its fragrance begins easing Bai Suyi’s hidden cold injury 11.
Prepared meals Xiao Shi attains enlightenment and advances from middle to late Origin Gathering while eating his food 26.

Medical Treatment

Ye Qingyun applies methods learned from the system rather than a documented cultivation-based healing art 14 29.

  • Fire cupping: Uses eight heated bamboo cups to extract silvery-white poisonous insects from Bai Suyi’s body. He recommends another treatment after half a month 14 15.
  • Emergency care: Warms Bai Suyi with heating, hot-water bottles, and quilts when she becomes dangerously cold 29.
  • Medicine: Gives her an antibiotic after suspecting the insects are multiplying; she subsequently regains warmth and consciousness 29.

Engineering and Firearms

His system education includes physics, chemistry, machinery, and electronics. During his confinement, he successfully assembled weapons and protective equipment that he keeps as last-resort safeguards 1 35.

  • Household automation: Uses a whole-house smart system with a programmed tea-brewing method 3.
  • Ventilation: Activating his fresh-air system fills the house with Spiritual Qi, enabling Chu Yanyu to break through 2.
  • Marksmanship: Steadies himself after initially trembling and kills twelve black-clad cultivators with a suppressed sniper rifle 35.
  • Pistols: Subdues the depleted Old Freak Evil Heaven after the latter catches a rifle bullet 35 36.
  • Limitations: Firearms are not guaranteed to overcome stronger cultivators. He also cannot manufacture replacement bullets without the system’s help, making every shot a permanent reduction in his ammunition supply 35 38.

Buddhist Knowledge and Manifestations

Ye Qingyun can recite the entire Prajnaparamita Heart Sutra from memory. His words produce extraordinary Buddhist phenomena, although he does not understand himself to be a Buddhist holy figure 32 33 40.

  • A Buddha phantom appears while he urges the Song father and son to recognize and correct their wrongdoing 32.
  • Reciting the Heart Sutra intensifies the phantom’s radiance and sends Buddhist light into the sky, visible within a thousand li 33.
  • His teachings inspire the Song father and son’s repentance and contribute to Huikong’s identification of him as the Buddhist Holy Son 34 40 42.
