The shattering of the Frozen Throne affected not only Arthas, but also other Undead.
As the Lich King's power gradually diminished, his control over all the Undead in the world weakened, and some Undead with very strong will began to break free from the Lich King's control through their own efforts.
This may not necessarily be a good thing.
These Undead are no longer human, High Elf, or any other race they once were; their mentality has changed, and even their emotions have changed.
They can never return to their families; some have no families left, because their families have also become Undead.
These freed Undead began to wander.
Some of the Undead are alright, unwilling to harm their former kin; others even choose to Devastation themselves to end this eternal torment.
But some of the Undead began to hate the living, even believing themselves to be of a different race, and started to slaughter those who were still alive.
Such incidents will likely occur frequently in the future.
Undead has gained freedom and awakened its own self will be even more terrifying than before.
They can hide, lurk, assassinate, and roam the world, but they will eventually be completely eradicated.
Of course, there are also some Undead who still uphold their beliefs and will from when they were alive and continue to fight against the Scourge.
For example, Thassarian and Koltira.
These two powerful Death Knight had been secretly resisting the Lich King's control, and their consciences were not entirely gone.
Their willpower was strong, but because they were killed directly by Frostmourne, the Lich King's control over them was even stronger, and they were unable to break free of his control with their own strength.
But not long ago, they encountered some special Undead, among whom was a particularly special person: Alonsus Faol.
Thassarian, a former soldier of Lordaeron and a believer in the Holy Light, had once had the privilege of catching a glimpse of Faol from afar. Now, upon seeing Faol, he immediately knelt before the former Archbishop of the Holy Light, confessing his sins: he had killed many of his brethren, including his own mother.
Faol forgave him, and the Holy Light forgave him.
Because Thassarian had no control over his own destiny, everything was manipulated by the Lich King and Arthas, and he was powerless to do anything about it.
This is not his fault; it is precisely what tormented him.
Subsequently, with Faol's help, he and Koltira broke free from the Lich King's control. Faol then secretly searched for Undead had also broken free from the Lich King's Lich King, or Undead who wished to break free.
This is difficult and rare, and has consistently yielded limited results.
But now, the Lich King's control is weakening, giving them an opportunity.
Thassarian and Koltira immediately began working on it in secret.
Especially when Arthas was already preparing to leave Gilneas for Northrend, they knew their opportunity had arrived.
If they're lucky, they might gain a large number of followers, and the number of " Forsaken " will increase tenfold or even a hundredfold.
Gilneas, a place rife with undercurrents.
As Illidan's spellcasting continued for longer, the power of the ritual increased.
It's no longer just the Frozen Throne or Icecrown Glacier that's trembling; the entire Northrend is shaking, affecting not only Isle of Quel'Danas (the spellcasting point) but also the northern part of Lordaeron.
Fighting was taking place everywhere, and millions of people emerged from their rooms in panic, thinking a massive earthquake had begun.
Fortunately, the tremors were not strong enough to collapse even the worst-looking buildings. People quickly calmed down, their fear gradually subsided, and they gathered in twos and threes to discuss where the earthquake came from.
But Silvermoon City is different.
This place is so close to Isle of Quel'Danas that the High Elf could even clearly see the buildings shaking.
Sylvanas stood atop the highest point of the Sunstrider Court, her brows slightly furrowed.
An earthquake of this magnitude couldn't possibly destroy Silvermoon City, which is protected by magic, but she was still very worried.
Because the epicenter appeared to be in the north, on the Isle of Quel'Danas. Contrary to Jiang Jie's guess, Sylvanas had recently contacted Kael'thas and knew Kael'thas was on Isle of Quel'Danas, but instead of telling her what he was doing, she issued a strange order:
Strengthen vigilance, patrol the coast, and be wary of the Naga.
Have the Naga risen from the deeper reaches of the sea?
Do they want to attack Silvermoon City?
Kael'thas, what exactly are you trying to do?
Kael'thas's face was extremely grim as he looked at the Watchers leader not far away.
He immediately ordered all the High Elf mages to defend and be on alert, then commanded the phoenix "O" to attack, while simultaneously casting a spell that sent an invisible force field sweeping towards Maiev.
But the next moment, Maiev vanished without a trace.
Kael'thas unleashed his mental power, even using spells to probe.
But as always, he couldn't find Maiev's trail; her stealth was too strong, her speed too fast, and her experience too rich.
" Maiev!"
Kael'thas, abandoning his former princely demeanor, frowned deeply and gritted his teeth.
I never imagined that simply helping Illidan would provoke such a terrifying monster!
From the moment they left Ashenvale, Maiev had been following them, doing everything she could to capture Illidan.
They even entered the incredibly dangerous Tomb of Sargeras, and Maiev followed them in.
They endured countless hardships, slaying hundreds of demons and avoiding numerous traps, before finally obtaining the Eye of Sargeras.
Although many of her minions were killed by demons and traps, even more died at the hands of Maiev and the other Watchers!
Fortunately, Illidan used the power of the Eye of Sargeras to teleport them out of the Tomb of Sargeras. The raging seawater wiped out almost all the Watchers, but Maiev, who survived, remained a haunting Nightmare.
On their way back from Suramar, they were repeatedly attacked by Maiev, suffering heavy casualties.
Kael'thas had no doubt:
If Maiev's target wasn't Illidan, but herself, then he really doesn't know when he'd be killed in his sleep!
"Damn Maiev, damn... Illidan!" Kael'thas cursed inwardly, filled with rage.
Fortunately, the ceremony is almost over, and he will soon be free.
Just then, a Storm Crow appeared in the sky.
It was a Storm Crow, larger than a giant eagle, bringing with it a storm, and a beautiful Night Elf priestess sat on its back.
Whoosh whoosh!
The priestess drew her bow and fired several arrows in quick succession, the target being...
The Naga witch who maintains the ritual!
Kael'thas frowned slightly, surprisingly choosing not to act immediately, because he recognized the Storm Crow and the priestess.
Those were two beings he absolutely did not want to provoke, unless he wanted to leave Ashenvale, stop running Demon Fall Canyon, and stop hunting Azshara's demons.
The High Elf are in a difficult situation and should not continue to make enemies.
If he doesn't act, someone else will.
Thunder roars!
Bolts of Lightning Bolt streaked across the sky, striking the feathered arrows with unparalleled accuracy and blasting them to smithereens.
The Naga witch with her head covered in venomous snakes, Azshara's personal attendant known as the " Gorgon," and the future Coilfang Queen, Lady " Vashj," approached the altar, swaying her long tail. She looked up at the Night Elf priestess, her voice filled with endless coldness and mockery:
" Tyrande, you deserve to die!"
