Even Aunties Go Wild
I was so shocked I nearly flung away what I was holding. Staring at the housekeeper in disbelief, I wondered if my eyes were playing tricks on me.
Inside the box was actually a piece of sexy lingerie.
"Wh... what is this supposed to mean?" I couldn't help asking, my voice trembling a little.
The housekeeper wore her usual cool expression, but her tone was perfectly solemn. "In this household, sir comes first. If you want your days ahead to be easier and have more freedom, pleasing him is a must."
My face burned bright red, and I hurriedly asked, "Then... did you prepare this, or did he tell you to?"
The housekeeper still looked as stern and rigid as ever, yet the words coming out of her mouth made me flush scarlet. "I prepared this for you. After all, only when sir is satisfied can this household enjoy peace and harmony."
I nearly choked on my own saliva.
Carefully pinching the fabric between my thumb and forefinger, I went completely stiff. That thing... would barely cover the important bits, wouldn't it?
Even when I looked the way I normally did, Gu Hansheng could put me through enough to make me question my entire life. If I changed into this... would I even live to see the sun tomorrow?!
I jolted and couldn't help shuddering.
"Auntie Zhang, I'm hungry." I quickly shut the box, tossed it carelessly aside, and changed the subject.
"Of course. I'll prepare a meal right away." Auntie Zhang nodded, but before turning away, she added, "Still, Miss Yu, you should learn to cook a few dishes to make sir happy. After all, the first step to keeping a man is winning over his stomach."
Auntie Zhang's theory was so old-fashioned that I actually had no answer.
I had no problem with cooking for Gu Hansheng, but I used to be a pampered young lady whose fingers never touched dishwater. Cooking had never even crossed my mind.
After I married Gu Hansheng, though, he often cooked for me. Back then, I hadn't known how to appreciate it. I had never treated him kindly and had rarely eaten with him.
Thinking about it now, it really was ironic.
Now I actually had to learn to cook to please him.
This was probably what they called-evil getting its just deserts.
After a moment of silence, I nodded anyway.
"All right, Auntie Zhang. I want to learn. Please teach me your skills!"
I clasped my hands in a bow, imitating a meme, and a trace of amusement appeared in Auntie Zhang's eyes.
Although Auntie Zhang was usually rigid and stern, I didn't dislike her. I could also tell that she bore me no hostility.
I had deceived Gu Hansheng.
I had to do something, at least. This meal would count as compensation.
Under Auntie Zhang's guidance, I spent the entire afternoon toiling away in the kitchen.
Before I could blow up the kitchen, I managed to bring out two reasonably presentable dishes.
Although even I couldn't vouch for the taste, looking at the plated dishes gave me a little sense of accomplishment.
I even began to look forward to... seeing what expression Gu Hansheng would make when he tasted the food I'd cooked myself.
But I waited all evening.
By eleven, he still hadn't returned.
Bored out of my mind, I picked up my phone and sent him a message:
[When are you coming back?]
Before long, he replied.
[Not coming back tonight.]
It was cold, like a basin of ice water poured over my head.
My chest tightened, and I tossed my phone aside.
Fine, then don't come back. Who cared?
Only... I still couldn't stop an image from surfacing in my mind:
Right now, he was probably keeping his white moonlight company.
The corners of my lips curled in self-mockery, my smile uglier than a crying face.
That was right. I was only a contracted lover. How could I possibly compare to his true white moonlight?
Just then, my phone rang.
My heart suddenly clenched. I thought it was Gu Mingze.
I hesitated for several seconds before picking it up to look, only to find that it was my younger brother, Yu Hui.
I answered. "What? Do you need something?"
Normally, this brat was a slacker who never showed me any respect when he spoke. Today, though, the voice on the other end actually carried a hint of deference.
"Sis, where are you right now? Let's meet up."
I frowned, immediately growing wary. "You've gotten into trouble again, haven't you?"
"Of course not!"
Yu Hui hurried to explain, his tone urgent. "I've been really good lately. I haven't been messing around. I'm planning to start a business and make a fresh start. Also... Dad can leave the hospital tomorrow. I was thinking of renting another place for them, and I wanted to discuss it with you."
It was rare for this brat to be so serious, and I felt somewhat heartened.
"It's so late. How about tomorrow?" I said.
Yu Hui insisted. "I have other things to do tomorrow. Let's meet today."
"Fine. Send me the address."
After hanging up, I casually changed into something comfortable, tidied myself up a little, and headed out to meet him.
The location Yu Hui sent me was a bar.
I couldn't help rolling my eyes. This brat had fallen so far, yet he still hadn't forgotten about going to bars?
We used to come to this bar often. It wasn't cheap.
As I pushed open the door, the familiar atmosphere washed over me. Dim lights, deafening music, and the mingled scents of alcohol and sultry perfume in the air.
I looked toward the location Yu Hui had sent me. Sure enough, he was in our usual booth.
The brat was waving at me, an easy smile on his face.
Anger instantly flared in my chest.
I was all set to walk over and give him a proper scolding.
But when my gaze landed on the person beside him, I froze.
The person sitting there was actually-Gu Mingze.
My breath caught, and I instinctively turned to leave.
But I had barely taken a single step when someone suddenly seized my wrist.
