Red Adornment kidnapped Ji Hanchu, who had lost his memories of her, and insisted they were married and must elope while fleeing the Yin Clan. After taking him to There Is an Inn, she faced Ji Chengxuan, the head of the Gusu Ji Clan, who confronted her in the night.
Red Adornment escaped with the injured Ji Hanchu after fighting Ji Chengxuan, and her confused revelations led Ji Hanchu to suspect she belonged to Seven Stars Valley. In a flashback, Red Adornment met Ji Hanchu while plotting against the Yin Clan, then pursued vengeance for a child and Hongxiu; the chapter ended with Ji Hanchu confronting her at the river and ordering her to answer for her crimes.
Red Adornment tormented Ji Hanchu, evaded his attempts to bring her back, and revealed that her killings stemmed from a deep grudge against the Yin Clan. When Yin Qingyan arrived, Red Adornment threatened her, but Ji Hanchu helped her escape; they hid together in a carriage as the Yin Clan searched for her.
Red Adornment returned to Ji Hanchu after threatening to kill Yin Yuanya, while Ji Hanchu learned that her possible vendetta was tied to the disappearance of Hongxiu and her daughter. He struggled between his feelings and his sense of duty, then embraced Red Adornment, only for his elder brother to interrupt them at the door.
Red Adornment escaped the Ji estate with Ji Hanchu after he protected her from Ji Zhiyuan and Qi Jin, but their feelings collided with her determination to kill the Yin Clan. She killed Yin Sanping and planned to finish the remaining targets, then secretly watched Ji Hanchu and realized her own heart had begun to stir.
Red Adornment tried to kill Yin Yuanya but spared him after Ji Hanchu intervened, then slept with Ji Hanchu and left him after he confessed his feelings. As the Yin Clan pursued her, Ji Hanchu followed and begged her to return to the Southern Frontier so she would survive, while Red Adornment struggled to face his love.
Red Adornment remained in the Yin family’s territory to finish her revenge, while Ji Hanchu stayed by her side despite the danger. After she held Yin Qingyan captive to draw out Yin Fangchuan, Ji Hanchu openly chose Red Adornment, leaving Yin Qingyan heartbroken.
Red Adornment left Ji Hanchu after asking him to join her in the Southern Frontier, while he secretly protected her and accepted punishment for aiding her. As Red Adornment set out to kill Yin Fangchuan and Ji Hanchu left the Ji Clan to follow her, Ji Chengxuan discovered her connection to Hongxiu and began searching for his missing love.
Ji Hanchu returned to There Is an Inn, chose Red Adornment, and left with her after they performed a simple wedding ceremony, but Ji Zhiyuan’s ambush left both lovers gravely wounded and Red Adornment apparently dead. A year later, Ji Zhiyuan plotted to use Yin Qingyan’s wish to marry Ji Hanchu to restart his schemes, while Red Adornment survived and reunited with Ji Hanchu, who had lost his memories of her.
Ji Hanchu cared for Red Adornment as they traveled, and his lost memories began resurfacing as he grew jealous and listened to her speak of the man she loved. After promising to return to the Ji Family with her, he embraced her and said he would break off his engagement, leaving her to wait for him.
Red Adornment reunited with Ji Hanchu, then confronted Yin Qingyan and Qi Jin over their past crimes and Ji Hanchu’s memory loss. She gave Qi Jin a poisoned remedy for Yin Qingyan that could leave her with a child’s mind, and tempted him with the possibility that Yin Qingyan might recognize only him.
Red Adornment and Ji Hanchu reconciled after she said goodbye, and Ji Hanchu chose to leave his former life behind for her. When they returned to the Ji Family, they found Xie Liyou tortured beyond saving, and Ji Hanchu killed him at his request before learning Ji Zhiyuan was responsible.
After Xie Liyou's death, Ji Hanchu and Red Adornment confronted Ji Zhiyuan at the Ji estate, where old family wounds and a long-hidden betrayal came to light. Hongxiu reunited with Ji Chengxuan and Ji Jingsheng, while Ji Hanchu prepared to kill Ji Zhiyuan until Ji Chengxuan begged him to spare his son.
Red Adornment returned to Jiangnan with Ji Hanchu and their children, where she confronted Yin Qingyan about Qi Jin’s role in her mother’s death and her madness. Yin Qingyan regained her memories, confronted Qi Jin, and killed him before taking her own life.
Meng Li recounted her years serving Ji Zhiyuan, from his lonely childhood and harsh treatment of the servants to his imprisonment after killing the woman who murdered his maternal relatives. After Ji Zhiyuan returned changed and violence erupted in his courtyard, Meng Li found him wounded beside Madam’s corpse and rushed to help him.
Ji Qingxi met Huo Hanzhou at the saber-seizing assembly, stole Wind Chaser from him, and fell in love with him as he sought to honor his late foster father and find his missing foster brother. Huo Hanzhou promised to return the saber to Seven Stars Valley within a year, and he arrived there on Lantern Festival to keep his promise to Ji Qingxi.
In his youth, Ji Chengxuan fell for Hongxiu, who gave him the famed saber Wind Chaser and planned to travel north of the pass. He chose to abandon his engagement to Yin Qiqi and asked Hongxiu to stay with him in Jiangnan, where she agreed and sent word to her master that she would not return.
Ji Hanchu and Red Adornment fended off Seven Stars Valley disciples who came to challenge or court him, then shared a quiet moment on the roof. Ji Hanchu revealed that he had regained all his memories, and he and Red Adornment reaffirmed their love as he recalled falling for her twice.
