Unexpected Twist, Adding Fuel to the Fire

When they heard the report amid the crackling static in their earpieces, everyone froze.

Daniel rubbed his eyes hard, then looked ahead.

Aside from the area still giving off residual heat from the flamethrower, there was no trace of gunfire anywhere.

Daniel swallowed hard. Right now, he felt as though he had seen a Star Beast.

From the moment the rookie spoke and then went silent to the moment he reported back, how many minutes had even passed?

And then he told them the matter had been completely settled and that they could come over to take over.

"Where are you!?" Daniel asked, forcefully suppressing the shock in his heart.

Hearing his captain's words, Mu Fan, standing amid a crack in the rocks, answered calmly.

"At the center of the blast site."

"Good. Stay concealed and watch out for an ambush. We'll be there right away."

The communication ended.

Mu Fan looked up at the clear night sky and slowly removed the icy white mask. He drew out the military knife, wiped it clean, and sheathed it again.

Then, under the stunned gazes of his five teammates, he slowly stepped out from the gap between the rocks.

Daniel and the others had just seen the gruesome state of the dead.

Some had died in the firefight with them, and a large number had been killed in the violent explosion. The rest had all been killed with a single blow from a cold weapon.
