(Combined two chapters)
"What's going on?"
Major Jerome asked from inside the command fortification.
"Reporting, Major, the enemy's attack frequency has indeed decreased, but based on previous observations, the Imperial Army's fire support has not diminished."
A captain stood and replied.
"Stay alert for artillery fire. Increase patrols. Use three-day cycles. For the next two cycles, supply Exoskeleton Armor with battery packs at full capacity. Have the mechas complete pre-battle inspections."
Feeling the tremors of shelling coming from all around, Major Jerome finally issued the latest defensive orders.
No matter what, the situation in the Fire Hills Area had stabilized. Before any further orders came down from headquarters or division command, their only task was to hold their positions.
Starting from Mu Fan's fourth day on Planet E75, the Empire Edge Vanguard Army's 33rd War Zone suddenly intensified its attacks on the Fire Hills Area.
Mu Fan's original daily assignment had been two sector patrols a day. However, beginning on his second day there, although his patrol duties remained unchanged, he gained a long-term assignment: guarding the highland defensive fortifications.
Amid the rustling of gravel and drifting sand, Mu Fan followed Bob and Ban Deng to his new stronghold.
Daytime battles made stealth attacks like those at night nearly impossible. They were essentially contests of firepower.
In that regard, the 27th Infantry Company was at a disadvantage.
Mu Fan settled into the battered, dust-filled fortification alongside eleven others.
This was merely one of countless defensive strongholds in the Fire Hills Area. Mu Fan's arrival there was utterly inconspicuous.
However, to everyone else's amusement and Ban Deng's immense embarrassment, the two military robots that had once served as supply truck drivers had also arrived at this fortification.
Fortunately, no one knew about the humiliation Ban Deng had suffered at Black's hands.
