Gu Wancheng felt the gaze on her, looked up and smiled gently at Chaochao, then took a big bite in front of him.

Chaochao's eyes immediately became even more resentful.

As soon as the time was up, the doctor immediately pulled the thermometer out. "All done."

He glanced at it and said, "37.7 degrees Celsius, that's alright, not too high. Some medicine will do, no need for an injection."

Gu Wancheng nodded. "What medicine do you want to take?"

Chaochao watched their conversation, her eyes would occasionally dart to the delicious food on the table, her heart filled with anticipation.

Seeing that they weren't paying attention, she secretly reached her little hand towards the table. The next second, her wrist was grabbed, and a sinister voice rang out.

" Chaochao, what are you doing?"

Chaochao froze, slowly turning his head to see Gu Wancheng's serious face. He immediately slid to his knees and admitted his mistake, "Dad, I was wrong."

Gu Wancheng sneered, and the doctor, seeing this, quietly left.

With tears in her eyes, Chaochao clung to Gu Wancheng's leg, "Daddy, I really know I was wrong, I won't eat anymore."

Chaochao was afraid that he would tell on her, which would mean he would be punished with even more homework.

Gu Wancheng pinched his mouth shut and sneered again, "Want to eat?"

"I don't want to think about it anymore," Chaochao said pitifully, fiddling with her fingers.

Gu Wancheng smiled and said, "Then you can have vegetable porridge tonight."

Chaochao's eyes widened in disbelief.

Gu Wancheng repeated it with a smile, as if afraid that Chaochao hadn't heard it.

Tears streamed down Chaochao's face, one by one.

Gu Wancheng gently wiped away his tears with a tissue, "You'll get better faster this way. There's a surprise waiting for you tonight."

Chaochao instantly forgot her earlier sadness, her mind filled with the surprise he had mentioned. "What surprise?"

Gu Wancheng gently shook her head. "I can't say now. I already said it's tonight."

The light in Chaochao's eyes visibly died out, and her sorrowful thoughts flooded back into her heart.

Gu Wancheng pinched his mouth shut, "Don't cry, or the surprise will be ruined."

Chaochao blinked, unable to speak because his mouth was being pinched, so he could only signal to him with his eyes to stop crying.

Gu Wancheng stared into his eyes for a while, then let go of his hand. Chaochao immediately covered her mouth, her face full of vigilance, afraid that he would reach out again.

Gu Wancheng ruffled his hair. "Let's go upstairs and rest for a bit."

Gu Wancheng learned from Teacher Yu that Chaochao had already eaten lunch and taken his medicine once, so she didn't ask him to take it again. The medicine prescribed by the doctor could be taken after dinner in the evening.

Chaochao nodded, turned and ran upstairs, not daring to look at the table for even a second.

Gu Wan pursed his lips. This was the first time Chaochao had been sick in a long time, and he was unusually flustered, but thankfully it wasn't too serious.

Gu Wancheng took out her phone and sent a message to Bo Yizhou.

The message was sent out, and a reply came in the next second.

' Bo Yizhou: Is it serious?'

Gu Wancheng: It's not serious, 37.7 degrees Celsius.

Bo Yizhou: Okay, keep an eye on him, don't let him eat anything that's likely to cause internal heat.

Gu Wancheng: Okay.

' Bo Yizhou: Give him more rest.'

Gu Wancheng: Mm-hmm.

' Bo Yizhou: You should rest more too.'

Gu Wancheng: Okay.

Gu Wancheng patted her face, went upstairs to check on Chaochao, who was already asleep. How could someone with a fever fall asleep so easily? His sleep quality was even better than hers.

After tucking the blankets in properly for Chaochao, Gu Wancheng left his room.

Back in her room, Gu Wancheng took out the unfinished painting and sat on the sofa to continue sleeping.

Half an hour later, the painting was finished. Gu Wancheng took it and the line drawing of a puppy to the studio.

When she returned, she went to check on Chaochao's room again. Chaochao had already kicked off the blanket. Gu Wancheng frowned as she looked at him and went over to cover him with the blanket again.

I reached out and touched his hair; it was sweaty. I wiped it off for him before turning and leaving.

Back in her room, Gu Wancheng's back started to ache.

He said he'd been too active and hadn't rested enough, so he still couldn't leave the bed.

I only intended to lie in bed for a while, but as soon as I lay down, I knew nothing more and fell asleep immediately.

"Daddy, Daddy, open the door quickly!"

While sleeping, Gu Wancheng suddenly heard someone calling her father repeatedly. She frowned and pulled the blanket over her head.

The sound didn't disappear; instead, there was a knocking on the door. Gu Wancheng's eyes widened, her memory instantly returning. She quickly got up, ran to the door, and opened it.

Chaochao knocked on the door but missed. She blinked, put her hands behind her back, and said, "Daddy, I'm hungry."

Gu Wancheng breathed a sigh of relief; he had thought something was wrong. "If you're hungry, just tell Grandpa Butler."

Chaochao shook her head, "I want to eat what you made."

Gu Wancheng paused for a moment, then ruffled his hair, which was messier than a bird's nest. "Fine, be careful you don't get poisoned."

Chaochao opened her eyes wide, "Then you'll be poisoned too."

"If it won't poison me, I won't eat it."

Chaochao crossed her arms and stomped her foot. "Hmph, you're the one who has to test the poison."

I'm not going to try.

You have to try!

Gu Wancheng pinched his mouth shut, manually silencing him. "Alright, stop talking. Are you still feeling uncomfortable?"

Chaochao made two "uh-huh" sounds to signal him to let go of her hand, Gu Wancheng slowly moved her hand away.

Chaochao woke up covered in sweat, his clothes sticking to his body, so he immediately ran to take a shower. "I don't feel uncomfortable anymore, I just took a shower."

"Okay, let's go. What do you want to eat?"

Chaochao was taken aback. Could she still order food? She looked at him suspiciously, but then, worried that he might not be able to cook it, Chaochao quickly said, "Let's eat your specialty."

Gu Wancheng smiled. "Let's go, let's cook some noodles."

Cooking noodles is the simplest thing to do, and it's hard to mess it up, Gu Wancheng was full of confidence.

The final product wasn't very visually appealing, and the taste was just so-so.

Chaochao ate with great satisfaction, perhaps because he was recovering from a serious illness and had a good appetite.

Chaochao put down her chopsticks with a satisfied look on her face. "Thank you, Dad."

Gu Wancheng wiped his mouth with a tissue, Chaochao consciously stretched his head out to make it easier for him to move.

Gu Wancheng, finding it rare to enjoy cooking, said, "Okay, I'll cook for you again next time."

Chaochao nodded vigorously, "Okay, Dad, you can learn from our family chef, just like at school."

Gu Wancheng raised an eyebrow. "Are you saying my cooking isn't good?"

Chaochao immediately shook her head, "No, Dad, you don't know how to make what I want to eat."

Gu Wancheng thought about it and agreed, "Alright, I accept your reason."

After wiping his mouth, Gu Wancheng propped her chin up and looked at him, "Are you full? Would you like another bowl?"

Chaochao patted her round belly, then patted it so hard she almost shoved the noodles out. "Ugh, I don't want any more."

Gu Wancheng's eyebrows curved into a smile as she looked at him, "Come here, let me touch it."
