Gu Wancheng: ...
He swallowed and said dryly, "Don't be so competitive."
"I don't know what you're talking about. Suisui said that if I really could see it, he'd agree to do one thing for me."
So?
And that was it? Hadn't he considered how Suisui felt?
So... "What did Suisui agree to do for you?"
At that, Chaochao's face instantly heated up. His eyes darted around as he fidgeted bashfully with his fingers.
Gu Wancheng: ...All right, no need to say it. He understood.
(¬_¬)
He stood up and glared at the man beside him, who was enjoying the show without caring how much trouble it caused. No matter how handsome that face was, he didn't want to see him right now.
Seeing that Gu Wancheng was about to leave, Chaochao panicked and had just reached out to stop him.
"Chaochao."
A deep voice sounded behind him. Chaochao immediately withdrew his hand obediently and cautiously leaned toward Bo Yuzhou to ask, "Father, aren't you going to coax Dad?"
Bo Yuzhou gave him a casual glance. "Have you finished your homework?"
His wife was currently flustered and angry, and he had no intention of walking into the line of fire, so he stabbed Chaochao in the back without a shred of guilt.
Chaochao's eyes widened in disbelief. How could Father's mouth, at thirty-seven degrees, say something so cold? His lips moved, but he didn't dare speak. What was he going to do? He hadn't finished his homework. Boohoo.
Bo Yuzhou raised an eyebrow and watched him quietly, waiting for an answer.
Butler Chen shook his head at the sight. Just as Chaochao's tears were about to fall, he finally couldn't bear it and stepped forward to rescue him.
"Sir, will you be having dinner at home tonight?"
Those words sounded like heavenly music in Chaochao's ears. Relief spread across his face, and he couldn't help feeling tearfully grateful to Butler Chen.
Changing the subject, he tugged on Bo Yuzhou's hem and shook it gently. "Right, right! Father, hasn't it been ages since you last ate with me?"
"Yes. I'll come home more often to keep you... both company." And see Gu Wancheng while he was at it. He had to admit that Gu Wancheng had caught his attention. Someone who hadn't even dared look at him before had changed so much in such a short time. Still... he was just as shy.
Bo Yuzhou's gaze darkened as he recalled the flush staining that cool, aloof face and the captivating tear mole at the corner of his eye. Surely he would look even more alluring with tears in his eyes.
"That's great! I'll go tell Dad!" Chaochao skipped away from this trouble spot.
Bo Yuzhou watched him go and said, "Bring me your homework tonight."
Chaochao's cheerful figure stiffened, then he immediately dashed upstairs. He glanced back, and only after Father was out of sight did he gradually slow down, patting his chest gently as he thought sulkily.
Father is so annoying. He scared this baby to death! I'm never looking forward to him coming home again. The moment he comes back, he makes me hand in my homework. So annoying.
Remembering the homework he had barely started, his mood instantly sank, and he trudged toward his room with his head hanging.
He sat in his chair and opened his homework. The arithmetic problems made his head ache, and his eyes began turning into mosquito coils. Giving up on himself, he slumped over the desk and waited for Father's demonic whispers that evening.
Suddenly, Chaochao sat up straight, as though a little light bulb had appeared above his head. He gathered up the homework on his desk and ran toward the door. He was going to find Dad.
Bang, bang, bang!
"Dad, open the door! It's Chaochao."
At his voice, footsteps sounded inside the room, gradually approaching the door. It swung open, and Gu Wancheng looked down at the little fellow standing outside.
He leaned lightly against the doorframe. "What's wrong?"
"Homework."
Gu Wancheng raised an eyebrow slightly. "Taking the initiative?"
Chaochao pouted. "Father said I have to give him my homework tonight. I haven't finished it yet. I don't know how."
Amused, Gu Wancheng bent down and poked Chaochao's forehead, then pinched his cheeks twice and tugged at them.
"Mmph~ What... are... you... doing..." Chaochao's words came out muffled as his cheeks were stretched.
"Come in. I'll teach you."
"Okay."
Chaochao slipped past him. Gu Wancheng stayed in the master bedroom, which was very spacious and even had a small sitting room. Once inside, Chaochao ran straight to a table in the sitting room, sat on the sofa beside it, and opened his homework.
Seeing Chaochao watching him eagerly with bright, wide eyes, Gu Wancheng walked over and sat beside him. The sofa was soft and very springy. As Gu Wancheng sat down, Chaochao instantly bounced up, swayed this way and that, and fell onto him.
Chaochao: Σ(ŎдŎ|||)ノノ
Chaochao lay across Gu Wancheng's legs, looking utterly bewildered.
A soft chuckle sounded beside his ear. Chaochao immediately raised his head and glared at the person who had just laughed.
All you do is laugh. If he weren't so heavy, Chaochao wouldn't have ended up like this. When he grew up, he would definitely get him back.
"Ahem, my mistake, my mistake. Let's do your homework." Gu Wancheng coughed lightly to stop himself from laughing and changed the subject.
Chaochao grunted like a little piglet. Fine, for the sake of his homework, he would let it go. Next time, he wouldn't forgive Dad for laughing at him.
"Look at this problem." Gu Wancheng pointed to the first problem and turned to ask him.
7-6+10=
Chaochao blinked. What was this? He had never done anything like it before.
Looking at those eyes completely untouched by knowledge, Gu Wancheng's mouth twitched, and he said helplessly.
"Let's divide it into two parts. First, work out the first part. What's 7 minus 6?"
Chaochao counted on his fingers, then looked up a moment later and said cheerfully, "One!"
Gu Wancheng nodded and praised him. "Very good. Now we have the answer to the first part. Next is the second part. Since we've already worked out the first part, we take that answer and add the second part to it. That's 1 plus 10. Does that make sense?"
Chaochao nodded vigorously. He understood. He really was the smartest little kid.
"Then..."
"I know! It's eleven!"
Before he could finish, Chaochao raised his hand and blurted out the answer.
"Good. Then the answer to this problem is eleven. Very simple, right?"
"Right!"
"The rest of these problems work the same way. Do them yourself, Chaochao, and ask me if there's anything you don't understand."
Chaochao nodded and got down to work, his pencil flying across the page.
There were a hundred arithmetic problems on each side, and Chaochao had been assigned three sheets. He had finished one that morning, leaving two undone.
Watching Chaochao obediently doing his homework, Gu Wancheng felt deeply gratified. Children were still quite adorable when they weren't making trouble.
In the study, Bo Yuzhou was browsing the documents Li Xiao had sent when one caught his attention.
[Hello, Baby]
Bo Yuzhou frowned slightly and sent Li Xiao a message.
Li Xiao promptly replied a moment later.
[This is the variety show the old madam specially arranged for Mr. Gu and the young master. Please take a look. Is there anything you'd like us to tell the production team?]
After reading his reply, Bo Yuzhou's brow relaxed. His mother had indeed mentioned it before, but he hadn't paid attention. That variety show seemed to be starting sometime in the next few days.
His fingers moved. As for any instructions, Bo Yuzhou gave it some thought and decided to ask Gu Wancheng what he thought, so he replied.
[Not for now. When does it start?]
[The day after tomorrow.]
[All right.]
Having received the exact date, Bo Yuzhou casually replied with an "all right" and opened the document.
Knock, knock-
