Background / History
Family Crisis
Suisui is the only offspring of Jiang Yushi and Lin Wanjun. When he was four, he witnessed the aftermath of his mother's breakdown over Jiang Yushi's betrayal. Lin Ting took him away from the family home to River Moon Bay 75.
His nickname carries two sharply different meanings. Lin Wanjun once wished him safety and happiness “year after year,” but during her breakdown she declared that his name meant “better to shatter as jade than remain whole as tile.” Suisui remembers both statements 75.
After Lin Ting removed Suisui from the household, Lin Wanjun castrated Jiang Yushi. Jiang subsequently confined her to a psychiatric hospital. She stopped the Lin family from intervening, insisting that the Jiang family's assets belonged to Suisui and that Jiang Yushi was merely working for him 75.
Life with Lin Ting
Lin Ting raises Suisui and begins preparing him to inherit the Jiang family through practical exposure and instruction. Lin Wanjun likewise tells her son to study under his uncle because the Jiang Group is his 106 176.
Despite his mother's condition, Suisui remains determined to visit her. When Lin Ting initially refuses his request to return, Suisui answers that “she's still there.” He keeps a photograph of happier times with her beside his desk 75.
During a later hospital visit, Suisui brings Lin Wanjun water and her medicine. He is confused when she willingly takes the tablets while insisting that she is not ill. After she sends him home, he continues walking without turning back when he hears glass shatter behind him 176 177.
Friendship with Chaochao
Chaochao initially struggles to get close to Suisui. He repeatedly takes Suisui's toys and calls him as often as a dozen times a day; Suisui eventually stops answering some calls. Gu Wancheng encourages Chaochao to apologize rather than keep demanding his attention 50 58 64.
After returning from Country M with Lin Ting, Suisui acknowledges Chaochao as a friend but explicitly refuses the title of “best friend.” Nevertheless, he lets Chaochao into his home, takes him to his book-filled room, and offers to teach him to read 76 77 78 79.
Their friendship gradually becomes more reciprocal. Suisui agrees to accompany Chaochao on a visit to Zhao Chengyu's home, sends him a good-night message before filming separates them, and watches his television appearances. During a video call, Chaochao notices a spontaneous smile when Gu Wancheng musses his hair 82 84 95.
Later, Suisui promises to pick Chaochao up when he returns from filming. He joins him for meals, Lego, and overnight stays, offers homework help, and begins returning small gestures such as serving him food 109 120 121 122 131.
Appearance
- Hair: Long and ink-black, falling over his chest when loose. He usually ties it into a neat ponytail and carefully recombs it when Lin Ting messes it up 76 77 182.
- Features: Delicate and handsome, with a strong resemblance to Jiang Yushi 76 80 83.
- Build: Small and thin; he is slightly shorter than Tongtong despite being older 82 121.
- Expression and posture: Usually expressionless, with an upright, composed sitting posture 80 121.
- Notable clothing: Wears a hoodie with long bunny ears on the trip to Zhao Chengyu's home 82.
Tongtong and Mi Tu initially mistake him for a girl because of his long hair. Gu Wancheng notes that his features themselves do not make his gender difficult to distinguish 82 83.
Personality
Suisui is quiet, restrained, and unusually serious for his age. He prefers reading to games, which he considers childish, and is not accustomed to joining groups of children at play. His uncle teases him for being a “poker-face,” although Suisui considers himself merely less expressive than other people 76 79 82.
His reserve does not prevent him from being considerate. He softens refusals when Chaochao sounds disappointed, reassures him when he is close to tears, and praises his photographs despite privately thinking he looks silly. His affection is often expressed through tutoring, handmade presents, and small practical gestures rather than enthusiastic declarations 77 95 121 122 182.
- Polite: Carefully greets adults and thanks hosts, servants, and gift-givers 80 81 182 184.
- Particular about personal space: Pushes back against overwhelming hugs, nuzzling, and prolonged chatter, even as he becomes more comfortable with Chaochao 79 122 159.
- Fond of sweets: Especially enjoys the mango soufflé Gu Wancheng serves him 77 81.
- Protective of his sleep: Likes sleeping in and can remain unhappy all day if woken without enough rest 82.
- Earnest when learning: Watches cooking demonstrations closely and handles even simple preparation tasks with painstaking care 183.
