Personality

Zhang Shengsheng is usually lively, cheerful, and willing to initiate conversation. When he cannot join Jiang Yu and Wei Xun’s discussion on the first day, he decides not to force his way in and instead approaches Wen He. Their friendship begins over shared fruit 3.

He describes himself as clingy, easily jealous, and possessive in love. He wants partners to remain close and depend on each other emotionally without reservation, seeing that mutual dependence as a source of security. Nevertheless, he recognizes that Wei Xun’s expectations differ from his own rather than insisting they continue pursuing an unsuitable relationship 38 39.

His emotions are readily visible: he struggles to hide his disappointment over receiving no first-night letter, cries heavily while watching Empresses in the Palace, and becomes tearful as the cast prepares to separate. Arrival and Early Connections

Zhang Shengsheng arrives among the early guests and introduces himself to Jiang Yu and Wen He. After Wei Xun initially directs his attention toward Jiang Yu, Zhang Shengsheng moves beside Wen He and invites him to prepare apples. Wei Xun follows them into the kitchen, where Zhang Shengsheng begins chatting with him 2 3 4.

He writes his first heart-flutter letter to Wei Xun but receives no letter himself. Although visibly disappointed, he reminds himself that the show has only just begun 11.

After an outing with Wei Xun, the two return with enough plush toys to cover the sofa. Zhang Shengsheng sorts them into gifts for the other guests, giving Wen He a red panda and Ji Chi a gray seal 16.

Amusement-Park Challenges

Ji Chi pays Zhang Shengsheng 10,000 yuan to accompany him through amusement-park challenges. Despite regretting the arrangement, Zhang Shengsheng continues helping him exploit the activity rules to accumulate points. His enthusiasm falters at the haunted-house entrance, and Ji Chi enters without him 21 22.

Zhang Shengsheng later emerges clinging to Jiang Yu, pale-faced and screaming. He refuses to abandon Jiang Yu inside, though his constant high notes leave Jiang Yu overwhelmed by the noise 23.

At dinner, Ji Chi piles salted-egg-yolk pumpkin into Zhang Shengsheng’s bowl and silences his attempt to negotiate with a look. Their apparent closeness makes Wen He uncomfortable, while viewers struggle to interpret Ji Chi’s behavior 23 24.

Incompatibility with Wei Xun

After roughly a week of affectionate interactions, Zhang Shengsheng and Wei Xun discuss what they want from a relationship. After Ji Chi’s elimination, Zhang Shengsheng and Wen He ally with Zhou Siyu. The three stop beneath a tree to eat cookies, where Yun Li and Jiang Yu catch them off guard and eliminate them together 66.

Zhang Shengsheng again partners with Wen He during the camping trip. They obtain supplies through rock-paper-scissors, and Zhou Siyu asks to share their tent 71.

During the river accident, Jiang Ye and Wei Xun rescue Zhang Shengsheng. He is left shaken and sobbing under a bath towel while Zhou Siyu comforts him. Once recovered, he animatedly explains the danger and his thoughts at the time to livestream viewers 77 78 81.

Moving On

As other relationships develop, Zhang Shengsheng accepts that he probably will not find a suitable partner on the show. He remains hopeful about opportunities outside the house rather than treating the cast as his only chance at love 94.
