Background / History

Childhood and Family Position

Huo Cifeng is Huo Cheng and Lin Lan’s son, Huo Cixiao’s younger paternal half-brother, and Huo Qiuya’s older brother. He was brought into the Huo Family at five years old, but his illegitimate birth remained a frequent target of insults within elite society 1 8 22 31.

Huo Cixiao remembers him cultivating their father’s sympathy from childhood and shifting blame onto him. In one incident, Huo Cifeng deliberately fell into a swimming pool, after which Huo Cheng berated Huo Cixiao before hearing his explanation 54.

The parallel-world extras reveal Lin Lan’s abuse during Huo Cifeng’s previous life. She withheld food when he could not solve academic problems and confined him in a dark room with rats, where his little toe was bitten off. She taught him that controlling power and possessing limitless wealth were the only ways to secure his future 201.

Failed Takeover of Huo Corporation

While Huo Cixiao was in a vegetative state, Huo Cifeng attempted to seize control of Huo Corporation. His intended next steps were to remove Huo Cixiao’s trusted executives, install his own people, change the dividend system, and secretly siphon company funds through special channels 13 15 52.

Luo Beishi defeated the attempt by financing Li Qin’s transfer of a 2% stake to Huo Cixiao for 40 billion yuan. This raised Huo Cixiao’s holding to 30%, one percentage point above Huo Cifeng’s. The failed takeover became gossip throughout financial and elite-family circles 14 17.

Huo Cifeng had borrowed over 100 billion yuan to acquire a 6.5% stake, leaving him exposed to mounting interest when the takeover failed. Luo Beishi later instructed Ling Kai to arrange an unfamiliar buyer and purchase 8% of Huo Corporation from him cheaply for transfer to Huo Cixiao. Huo Cifeng subsequently acknowledged losing tens of billions through the share sale 51 52 121.

Retaliation Against Luo Beishi and Huo Cixiao

Huo Cifeng approved Assistant Zhang’s plan to manufacture compromising material against Luo Beishi, including nude photographs or an apparent affair, so Old Master Huo would expel him from the family. When an initial abduction attempt failed, he ordered more people sent after him 33 35.

Luo Beishi’s campus confrontation frightened him by exposing knowledge of the kidnappings and his relationship with his assistant. Believing Luo Beishi might possess evidence, Huo Cifeng decided he could not allow him to live. A later threat at Huo Corporation was explicitly a bluff, but it contributed to his paranoia and nightmares 56 138 142.

Huo Cixiao initially suspected Huo Cifeng of causing his car accident. Huo Cifeng’s own thoughts later confirm that he had previously succeeded in harming his brother, leaving him vegetative for over a year, and intended to kill him eventually 69 122.

Zhang Ze, Maker Future, and Imprisonment

Assistant Zhang—Zhang Ze—initially remained beside Huo Cifeng while secretly intending to help Wu You’an. Their relationship later changed after Zhang Ze’s memories were altered: he rejected Wu You’an, apologized for his earlier treatment of Huo Cifeng, and promised exclusive devotion. Huo Cifeng recognized that Zhang Ze no longer remembered their painful history 165 175 177.

Huo Cifeng secretly established Maker Future, a company involved in game promotion, production, and development. Meanwhile, Huo Cixiao suppressed Huo Cifeng’s personal businesses but entrusted him with Huo Corporation subsidiaries, deliberately testing whether he would misuse their resources under pressure 187.

After both his parents were imprisoned, Huo Cifeng planned to sell his remaining Huo Corporation shares and flee abroad. He had nearly drained the company placed under his management. Zhang Ze then recovered his memories, learned that Huo Cifeng had forcibly replaced them, and chose to bring them both down. Later passages establish that Huo Cifeng was imprisoned 190 199 201.

Parallel-World Extras

Huo Cifeng and Zhang Ze are sent to a parallel world because of their existing marriage bond. Huo Cifeng arrives first and retains memories of his previous life. In this world, his father is Huo Tianheng, his mother is strict but does not inflict Lin Lan’s punishments, and he attends Blue Sky University 199 201 204 211.

Despite his more secure circumstances, he is chronically ill and emotionally exhausted. He repeatedly rejects Zhang Ze’s attempts at reconciliation and tells the world’s god that he does not want to live. Zhang Ze instead bargains for his recovery and searches Phoenix Mountain for a required token 201 204 208.

Huo Cifeng’s indifference breaks when Zhang Ze is attacked and seriously injured. He accompanies the rescue effort, orders the pursuit of an armed attacker, takes Zhang Ze away by helicopter, and asks his father to investigate the Fan Family. He then nurses Zhang Ze in the Huo residence’s private medical room 211 212.

By the end of the extras, Huo Cifeng keeps Zhang Ze close during his recovery, their fathers discuss marriage and compensation, and Huo Cifeng completes the transaction with the god. The chapters depict their reconciliation but do not show a completed marriage registration 213 214.

Appearance

  • Main timeline: Handsome features, a pleasant voice, and a gentle, refined air. At his café meeting with Luo Bai, he wears a tailored brown couture suit and neatly styled side-parted hair 8.
  • Build: Five centimeters shorter than Huo Cixiao and visibly bowlegged 121.
  • Parallel world: Black-haired, pale, thin, and strikingly attractive; regarded as a campus heartthrob despite his aloofness 200 202 205 209.
  • Changing height: Initially 178 centimeters in the parallel world, growing to nearly 188 centimeters after divine intervention. Zhang Ze later estimates that he may have reached 190 centimeters 209 212.

Personality

Huo Cifeng presents a gentle and polished manner while concealing resentment, entitlement, and a willingness to harm others. He comforts Luo Bai affectionately, yet privately decides that even love must yield to his ambitions. He is particularly sensitive to reminders of his illegitimate birth and imagines using corporate power to crush the people who ridicule him 8 15 22 37 70.

He repeatedly mistakes Luo Beishi’s changed behavior for lingering attraction. Even after Luo Beishi obstructs him, he imagines that winning him back could eventually secure Huo Cixiao’s property. His certainty is shaken when Luo Beishi treats him with open contempt and threatens to expose his crimes 56 84 121.

The extras complicate his apparent coldness. Huo Cifeng recalls realizing in prison that nobody truly cared about his accomplishments, while Zhang Ze retrospectively recognizes his self-denial and the pressure of competing with Huo Cixiao. In the parallel world, his initial numbness gradually gives way to protectiveness, tenderness, and a teasing streak as he cares for Zhang Ze 201 203 211 212 213.
