Betty grew up under General Ross’s close supervision. He taught her self-defense as a child, but also opposed her choices of major, laboratory, and boyfriends. His men monitored developments around her so closely that her relationship with Bruce Banner remained restrained; her Catholic beliefs also influenced her approach to intimacy 58 59 136.

By Lin Xiao’s arrival at Culver University, Betty and Banner had already separated but continued working together. The System attributes their breakup to incompatible personalities, while Betty blames her father’s interference. Despite their history, they maintain an efficient professional partnership in the laboratory 56 58 59 63.

Lin Xiao subsequently gets Betty drunk and leaves her at his hotel while he steals back a needle from the military laboratory. On returning, he admits that he used her access and explains that he wants to prevent the military from weaponizing it. Betty questions whether she can trust him, but later tells her father that Lin Xiao stayed with her throughout the night, concealing his involvement 59 60.

When Ross questions them directly, Betty repeats the alibi and declares that she and Lin Xiao are together. Her willingness to defend him prompts Lin Xiao to admit that his earlier behavior was calculated but that his feelings are now genuine. Hulk Incident and Its Aftermath

Betty leaves Banner to finish shutting down an experiment so she can meet Lin Xiao outside. During the shutdown, Banner accidentally changes the gamma-ray calibration and transforms into Hulk. Lin Xiao shields Betty from falling debris, and students pull her away while he confronts Hulk 63 64.

After surviving the fight, Lin Xiao asks Betty to organize a press conference to discourage military retaliation. Within two hours, she gathers students, three local media outlets, and a CNN intern reporter. When the university objects, she challenges its representatives to match Lin Xiao’s willingness to protect others 65.

Betty protests when Ross subsequently insists on taking the badly injured Lin Xiao away. After Lin Xiao speaks privately to her, she retrieves his canvas bag and kisses him goodbye. She later travels from Culver University to help care for him during his recovery 66 86.

Founding Vought

Betty joins Lin Xiao, May, Tony Stark, and Rhodey in founding Vought International Media and Security Consulting Limited. At the founding meeting, she explains the company charter and equity plan. She receives a 5% stake and becomes its technology chief 101.

Her work for Vought continues alongside family responsibilities. During her father’s hospitalization, she handles company business during the day and stays with him at night, leaving her with little sleep 134.

Brazil and Reconciliation with Ross

Fearing for her father’s life, Betty travels to Brazil with Lin Xiao and Hill. Exhausted and distressed, she stays at a hotel while Lin Xiao secretly leaves to find Ross. He discovers the general gravely wounded after Abomination’s attack and returns with him alive 122 125.

Betty embraces Lin Xiao on his return, then accompanies her father to the hospital.
