Years later, when Newt's grandson Rolf Scamander holds up the Magic Mobile Phone, he will remember the afternoon his grandfather told him how he truly met Lorne, the owner of the Magic Mobile Phone.
Newt suddenly became talkative. "I can't do anything with you. Sit down. It happened at 6:02 PM on July 12, 1993, in the mountains of the Giant race in eastern Northern Europe. There were hundreds of Giant surrounding us. I was worried that Lorne would anger the Giant because of his disrespect, and I was about to pull out my wand for a battle when—"
Gurg, who was lying on the chair, suddenly stood up. With a leap, he was like a missile launched from a distance. Newt looked at the Giant's mountain-like body and even casually pushed the small, English-speaking Giant more than ten meters away, where he fell to the ground.
The poor little Giant was dazed and confused after the fall, but he still had to obey Gurg's call and get up again to act as the translator.
Ignoring the gazes of the other Giant, Newt resolutely walked to Lorne's side. Just as he was about to explain to the strong and powerful Gurg on Lorne's behalf, Lorne extended a hand. " Lorne Myles."
Since names are generally pronounced similarly around the world, this Giant, breathing heavily and with a ferocious face on the verge of rage, actually understood what Lorne meant. He bent down, extended his large hand, and touched Lorne's palm with his fingertips. " Karkus."
Newt was dumbfounded.
He had never heard of Giant being such an easy-going race; they were said to eat raw meat and drink blood, sleep under the open sky, be capricious and extremely savage.
Especially the Gurg of the Giant race, who rose to power through killing, could only intimidate their people with ruthless methods, so they often needed to be more ferocious than other Giant.
But why does Karkus seem to be treating them like guests?
So much so that when Karkus later ordered the other Giant to bring them some kind of enormous fruit, he didn't realize it was a welcoming feast for the Giant. Even when he vaguely followed Lorne into the Giant ' sacred site in the mountain cave, he didn't realize that the mural he had been searching for was there.
"As for the aftermath... the aftermath is that Lorne and I successfully found the last two Crumple-Horned Snorkack in the world based on the Giant murals. They were hiding in a mountain cave, where there was also a lake. They lived off the salt on the mountain rocks and are still in my box."
Newt only said this much, without mentioning that on their return journey from Northern Europe, his trunk contained not only two more Crumple-Horned Snorkack, but also a small engineering team of more than ten Giant.
For some reason, he always felt that the Giant were exceptionally lenient towards Lorne, which was slightly different from how they treated him, and that it was a double standard.
He tried to use Transfiguration to create a blanket, but the Giant around him bared their teeth at him. Lorne simply Apparition within the Giant' territory, blinding Giant.
He tried to ask the English-speaking Giant to exchange a few words with Gurg, but was ignored. If he tried to talk too much, he would be yelled at. Lorne patted Karkus on the shoulder and discussed with him about taking his people away, and even wanted to take the entire Giant Tribe.
Fortunately, Karkus did not agree. According to the little Giant translated, Karkus could not tolerate the wizards' persecution of them, nor could he lead the entire Giant race back to the dangerous wizarding society, even though Lorne said he could protect them. However, Karkus said he would not forbid other Giant from going back with Lorne, as long as he could persuade that Giant.
Newt thought it was reasonable.
After Lorne's persuasion, a dozen or so short Giant who were unhappy living in the Giant Tribe agreed to follow Lorne back to England, and even volunteered to crawl into Newt's trunk.
Newt thought it didn't make sense.
Giant are strong, but they're not stupid. Why would they trust a wizard they'd only met once, someone who had persecuted them in the past? Especially since the wizard's condition was that they be confined to a cage-like leather trunk, restricting their freedom. Weren't they worried that when they emerged from the trunk, they'd find themselves at the execution ground where the wizard had executed the Giant?
And didn't they consider United Kingdom's attitude towards Giant, the wizard's identity, or how to protect them within the wizarding community?
Newt was worried about them, and even on their return flight, Newt specifically asked, "What are you going to do with those Giant? You know, the Ministry of Magic still lists Giant as dangerous species. You can't have Giant working for you under their noses."
"The workplace is secluded, they'll be safe," Lorne said casually yet shockingly. "Besides, most of the Ministry of Magic is a bunch of incompetents, and the Acromantula are dangerous creatures that need to be controlled, but they have no idea that the Forbidden Forest at Hogwarts is teeming with Acromantula."
Newt also found the political rules and regulations somewhat annoying, but he was never as outspoken as Lorne, which made Newt think more highly of Lorne.
"We were able to see the Crumple-Horned Snorkack thanks to your help. You are truly the best in the world when it comes to diplomacy with Giant," Newt expressed his heartfelt gratitude. "Of course, I also appreciate the information you provided. If you need any help, just let me know."
Lorne's previously calm expression suddenly turned hungry, like a hunter who had been lying in wait for three days.
Newt, noticing the change in his expression, worried that he might have said something wrong, "What's wrong? Did I say something wrong?"
"No!" Lorne grabbed Newt's hands tightly. "I helped you without expecting anything in return. Contributing to the cause of Care of Magical Creatures is the duty of every wizard. I dare not take credit for it. Being able to help Mr. Newt Mr. Scamander, the author of ' Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,' is the greatest fortune of my Lorne."
"But--"
"There might be a little bit of help you can provide in some areas, but don't worry, it won't be too much trouble or affect your quest to find new Fantastic Beasts."
Newt raised an eyebrow. This was why he was socially awkward; these social bulls could say embarrassing things with such confidence that they seemed more terrifying to him than an angry Graphorn.
He rubbed his forehead. "Go ahead and say it."
Lorne rubbed his hands together, draping his theme park in a Diadem guise. "I don't know, have you ever heard of popular science?"
"Science popularization?" Newt asked, puzzled.
"That's right, but what was your purpose in publishing ' Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them to Find Them'?"
"Let other wizards and our descendants understand the allure of Fantastic Beasts Fantastic Beasts and actively participate in their protection."
Lorne shook his head. "In my opinion, simply writing books is useless. Perhaps we have a more direct and vivid way to let wizards understand the charm of Fantastic Beasts. When they are captivated by the myriad forms of Fantastic Beasts, that will be the moment when the cause of Care of Magical Creatures is accomplished."
"So, what do I need to do?"
"Simple," Lorne said with a wicked smile, "Open a zoo."
