Newt actually wants to go back to Dorset and use the available information to find Silver Fox, but as the one who provided the information, he should be obligated to fulfill Lorne's request.
To his surprise, apart from borrowing two planes, they traveled almost entirely using magic. What he expected to be a journey of about a week was completed in less than three days, and Northern Europe even had Lorne leisure to give him a ride.
"I rarely see someone so young who has mastered the Apparition Charm and Levitation Charm so well," even Newt couldn't help but praise. "In terms of spells, you are the most talented person I've ever seen."
Lorne smiled but remained silent. "Your spells are nothing more than the result of your diligent practice, while my spells are a gift from the system. It's obvious which is stronger."
They arrived in Northern Europe in the evening. Lorne wanted to experience the local customs and culture, but Newt hesitantly offered his suggestion. "I saw in your information that there are only two Crumple-Horned Snorkack left in the cave. If we arrive too late, won't they be in danger? You know, small populations are often less able to withstand risks. I don't think you'd want to see a Fantastic Beasts disappear from the world because of our rest."
Lorne's lips twitched. It seemed that not only would he not be able to go sightseeing, but he would probably have to spend his rest time outdoors tonight.
The two set off again.
The Northern Europe region is vast, but Lorne, who had read the system's books, knew that the cave where the Crumple-Horned Snorkack lived was roughly located in the eastern mountains, where the Giant must also live.
"We need to find the Giant first and establish a good relationship with them," Lorne reminded us. "We need to find clues in their murals."
Newt paused, and Lorne stopped as well, asking, "What's wrong?"
"Perhaps we can no longer use magic so recklessly." Newt looked at Lorne with a helpless expression.
Lorne was a little confused. "What's wrong? Are you afraid of the Ministry of Magic investigating?"
Newt shook his head. "No, I've seen Giant a few times before. As far as I know, Giant themselves don't reject magic, but they hate it when others use magic on them. They are bloodthirsty and extremely savage. Moreover, because the Wizarding World has launched several campaigns to wipe out the remaining Giant, they have developed some animosity towards wizards."
" The Wizarding World has done all sorts of bad things," Lorne sighed, shaking his head.
"However, Dumbledore is one of the few wizards willing to speak up for the Giant and publicly oppose the extermination of Giant. Out of respect for him, the Giant should be willing to communicate with us. We need to prepare some gifts for their Gurg — Gurg means leader of the Giant race. They are very good at fighting amongst themselves, and they start a war every few weeks. The winner purges the losers and becomes the Gogo, enjoying the offerings of the other Giant. The last time I saw them, they had less than two hundred left."
"Actually, from this perspective, I do support driving the Giant to the border, because they are too belligerent and destructive. They will start fighting at the slightest provocation, and ordinary wizards are likely to be persecuted."
Lorne stroked his chin. "So what kind of gift should we prepare? If we give it to Gogo, weapons? Equipment? He'll definitely need to consolidate his power if he wants to stay in that position."
"We could also send some magical items, but the most pressing issue right now is that we might have to walk to that place. We don't know when we might encounter Giant, and if they think we're using magic on them, this whole trip will have been for nothing."
Lorne remained silent, assessing the limits of the role that Race Certification could play. He pulled out his Magic Mobile Phone from his pocket and opened Hagrid's chat window. Immediately, 99+ messages popped up. Even though Lorne hadn't replied to his messages on the second day of his vacation, Hagrid was still enjoying it immensely.
"I think... it's unlikely we'll get something for nothing."
By noon on the second day, after climbing rocks and sleeping in caves, Newt finally saw the habitat of the Giant. Hundreds of Giant, six or seven meters tall, were gathered together, standing or sitting beside huge rocks. In the center of the Giant was a beautiful lake, and a Giant more than eight meters tall was lying on a chair by the lake, enjoying being fed by the other Giant.
Newt swallowed hard, his mind racing to recall any precautions he should take when encountering Giant. Just as he was considering how to be careful not to offend Giant, Lorne beside him had already stepped forward.
He greeted the Giant warmly, "Hello, do you understand English? May I see your home? Are you willing to work across borders? I will guarantee your safety."
Newt's alarm bells rang loudly. He gripped his wand, his eyes darting among the Giant, ready to unleash a spell and battle them at the slightest provocation, buying Lorne time to escape.
Then he saw a Giant sitting on the outermost edge of the room spread out his palm towards Lorne. The palm was bigger than Lorne's chest. Newt thought the Giant wanted to ask Lorne for a gift, and he breathed a slight sigh of relief. If the giant was willing to accept a gift, then there was something to talk about. But Lorne was really too ridiculous.
The next second, Newt suddenly realized that Lorne showed no sign of taking out a gift; he even bent down and took a stone from the Giant's palm!
Who asked you to accept gifts, not to give them?
Newt's heart pounded. He whispered to Lorne to ask him to deliver the gift, but the Giant who heard him immediately bared his teeth at him.
Lorne was actually testing the waters, exploring the limits of Race Certification. On the surface, he appeared calm and collected, but in reality, he already had his wand in his hand.
The Giant said nothing. He stood up, and pebbles immediately began to fall on him. Lorne watched as he gestured towards several other Giant, and a smaller Giant stepped forward. He seemed to speak English, though with a slight accent. Lorne repeated his words, and the Giant replied, "We have no home; these stones are our bed."
Lorne's eyes widened. He felt cheated. Weren't Giant supposed to be experts in civil engineering? How come they didn't even have a house?
He was heartbroken and was about to call Newt to see Gurg when the Giant spoke again, "Is the transnational work you mentioned about building houses? Actually, true architectural art is about the heavens and the mountains. We can build castles or cabins like those inhabited by wizards, but compared to this mountain sculpted by the heavens and earth, they are far too cramped and insignificant."
Lorne's mood, which had taken a sharp turn for the worse, suddenly brightened again. As long as you can do it, that's fine. You don't have to do it, but you must be able to do it!
