Background / History
Earth and the Cottage
Lu Changsheng lived on Earth before transmigrating into the cultivation world. His memories include elementary school habits and the attitudes of teachers toward their students. Although Hidden Dao Academy became the place where he grew up in this world, he occasionally longs to see his former family and friends again 113 217 400 581 1281.
After his arrival, the Cottage's previous master took him in. Qin Tiannan also cared for him and protected the Cottage when academy elders proposed abolishing it as a waste of resources. These kindnesses explain why Lu Changsheng continues to treat Qin Tiannan as a senior despite his own overwhelming strength 203.
The former Cottage master, later identified as Du Ni, never required Lu Changsheng to formally become his disciple. Nevertheless, Lu Changsheng considers him more than a master. Du Ni encouraged him to study alchemy and formations before disappearing 1995.
Becoming a Master
Initially, Lu Changsheng refuses to recruit disciples, arguing that teaching is troublesome and that he has not even understood his own cultivation. A system mission leads him to accept Ye Qiubai, whose cultivation he promises to restore. Completing the mission grants him the Azure Cloud Sword, Primordial Sword Scripture, and a Fortune Pill 1 3.
As the Cottage grows, Lu Changsheng supplies techniques, pills, weapons, and protection while generally leaving his disciples to pursue their own paths. His reluctance to intervene is not simply fear: he believes that solving every problem for them would prevent their growth 130 193.
The approaching Great Tribulation of the Six Realms makes him more proactive. He begins planning individual cultivation routes, develops Grand Primordium, and accepts that preserving his peaceful life requires preparing both himself and his disciples 589 592 598 613.
The “Variable”
Lu Changsheng becomes increasingly suspicious that hidden figures have arranged his opportunities and his disciples' experiences. These concerns intensify when his Dao Laws resonate with a mysterious location and when the World Tree appears unusually well suited to him 1219 1670.
Nüwa confirms that her group has influenced their paths and that the Divine Realm is intended as a trial for his disciples. Du Ni later reveals that Lu Changsheng's arrival was no coincidence: before dispersing his Dao, the Dao Ancestor cast a “variable” into the lower realms to break a deadlock under the Holy Court's surveillance. Lu Changsheng is that variable 1846 1995.
He eventually deduces that the hidden group's plans involve training his disciples to help rebuild the Heavenly Court. Although he recognizes their intentions, he remains hostile to being manipulated 1846 2004.
Appearance
Lu Changsheng is depicted as a young-looking man in white whose approachable appearance contrasts with his lethal methods 252 365.
- Hair: Long and black 1604.
- Eyes: Described as shining like stars 1604.
- Brows: Sword-like, sweeping upward 1604.
- Usual clothing: White robes 365 1604.
Personality
Leisure and Independence
Lu Changsheng wants an unhurried life: regular meals, afternoon naps, wine beneath the stars, gardening, fishing, and raising animals. Before taking disciples, he also spent his free time painting, practicing calligraphy, and studying pills and arrays 285 1722.
He resists obligations that might compromise this freedom. He rejects recruitment by other factions and the Dark Domain, preferring to avoid alliances, favors, and their accompanying karma. Hidden Dao Academy is an exception because of his personal history there 113 310 354.
Extreme Caution
His preferred way to eliminate danger is to avoid contact with it entirely. When involvement is unavoidable, he investigates opponents, prepares formations and supplies, conceals his movements, and assumes that enemies may possess reserves they have not revealed 259 465 1063.
This caution continues even when he is demonstrably stronger than his opponents. He erases battle traces, restricts witnesses, and removes memories of encounters to prevent information about him from spreading 998 1758. Once he decides someone is an enemy, his concern about future retaliation can become ruthless: he advocates destroying threats at their roots rather than leaving potential avengers 366 367.
Protective but Undemonstrative
Lu Changsheng complains constantly about his disciples, assigns them cooking and cleaning, and frequently makes Ye Qiubai take the blame. His behavior nevertheless betrays his affection: he waits for Xiao Hei before beginning a meal and intervenes when his disciples face danger beyond their ability 235 243 265.
He wants them to reach the pinnacle so that they can obtain freedom and immortality without depending on him. Over time, those attachments draw him out of his secluded life and make him increasingly assertive, though he continues preparing contingencies 581 680 755 1604.
Abilities & Skills
System
Lu Changsheng possesses a system that provides missions, rewards, cultivation, techniques, and information about prospective disciples.

- Receives cultivation techniques from the system while concealing its existence from others 1325.
- His alchemy, formations, talismans, and artifact-refining expertise are explicitly attributed to independent study and practice, not system instruction 1426.
Grand Primordium
Grand Primordium is his self-created cultivation art, designed to integrate the numerous Great Daos he practices 598 609 613.
- Combines diverse Powers of Rules rather than specializing in a single Dao 609.
- Has broad compatibility and a low entry threshold, but an exceptionally high ceiling for someone capable of cultivating many powers 609.
- Produces Grand Primordium Qi capable of encompassing different powers, including those used in an absorption vessel 1834.

- Is not automatically suitable for his disciples; he declines to make them abandon their established cultivation paths 754.
Great Dao Mastery
Lu Changsheng practices the Sword Dao, Spear Dao, Samsara, Heavenly Lightning, Life and Death, Space, Yin, Yang, and Destruction 609 1207 1218.

- God-Slaying Sword Array: Uses nine swords infused with powers including Yin, Yang, Life, and Destruction 942 1207.
- Secure teleportation: Requires soul inspection for entry into the Changsheng Realm, conceals its location, and incorporates killing formations 654.

- Emergency supplies: Equips disciples with arrays, talismans, and pills for enemies they cannot defeat directly 935.
Spatial and Soul Techniques
Lu Changsheng combines spatial movement with concealed divine sense and soul-based techniques.
- Tears open space to travel, pursue fleeing enemies, and bypass guards 480 1830.
- Establishes concealed spatial nodes across the Chaos Realm 1670.
- Conceals his divine sense while searching an entire Divine Domain 860.
- Uses Soul Search to uncover Jiang Chan's order to kill Ye Qiubai 3.
- Creates external incarnations and avatars for concealment, training, and protection 465 1225 2104.
- His concealment has limits: Nüwa can recognize his presence through a connection shared by her group, despite affirming that others in the Divine Realm cannot see through his disguise 1846.
Eye of Heaven Scrutiny
An analytical eye ability acquired when he encounters Fang Qiong 900.
- Sees through arrays and talismans.
- Examines attacks, weaknesses, and items.
- Helps him assess things beyond their outward appearance 900.
Alchemy and Healing
Lu Changsheng refines pills with an unconventional, seemingly casual method that often leaves other alchemists unable to follow his reasoning 74 1667.
- His pills can raise cultivation without the unstable foundation associated with low-quality pills 188.
- Uses the intent of unending life to heal Fang Qiong after the heavenly stairway's strain 900.
- Supplies recovery and body-strengthening pills during Xiao Hei's repeated injury-and-recovery training 1225.
- Extends the Black Lord's life by another hundred years, while warning that a breakthrough remains necessary 1669.
Artifact Refining and Puppetry
He studies technical disciplines from their fundamentals and builds his expertise through experimentation 1425 1426.
- Creates communication jade pendants that transmit across vast distances between realms 385.
- Forges weapons suited to individual disciples, including Hong Ying's growth-capable Holy Willow Phoenix Fire Spear 945.
- Uses heaven and earth as a furnace rather than relying on a forging platform 1873.
- Forges a core that combines Jiang Yiyu's eight Divine Soldiers into Creation Grade armor 1873.
- Begins studying the Dao of Puppetry through foundational material at the Mo Clan 1425 1426.
Bloodline and Creation
His bloodline possesses overwhelming influence over other bloodlines and living things.
- Causes the Dragon Emperor and Divine Phoenix bloodlines within Little Bird to stop fighting and retreat into his sea of consciousness; their manifestations address him as a senior 684.
- His released bloodline presence transforms plants and creatures across the Changsheng Realm and strengthens nearby companions 1108.
- Participates in an attempt to create a new dragon using remains, blood essence, and primordial beginning power. His own blood threatens to dominate the intended Dragon Clan bloodline 1108.
- Willow Tree identifies him as the Heavenly Dao of the Changsheng Realm when explaining the prohibition against creating life 1108.
