Background / History

Fall and apprenticeship

Ye Qiubai was once Heavenly Origin City’s greatest genius. After entering the forbidden grounds of a Sword Saint inheritance, he was struck by supreme Sword Qi, lost his cultivation, and suffered destroyed meridians. His engagement was dissolved, and the Ye Lineage’s elders turned against him. Rather than remain a burden to his father, he left the lineage to seek a chance at recovery 2.

Assassins intercepted him outside the city. Lu Changsheng saved him and offered to restore his strength and develop his talent beyond its former limits. Ye Qiubai accepted him as his master, joining the Cottage. Lu Changsheng gave him the Azure Cloud Sword, a restorative pill later identified as the Fortune Pill, and the Primordial Sword Scripture 3 4 16 20.

Academy competition and return to the Ye Lineage

At Hidden Dao Academy, Ye Qiubai obtained an incomplete copy of the Nine Swords of the Heavenly Demon. Lu Changsheng supplied the missing six swords and demonstrated an improved version. Ye Qiubai subsequently defeated Xin Hongyi and Huo Qingming in the academy competition 8 10 12.

After learning that his cousin Ye Yan had acted against him, Ye Qiubai returned to Heavenly Origin City to protect his father. He killed Qiu Siwu with a wooden sword, revealing his recovery to the city. When the Ye Lineage’s elders and ancestor tried to prevent him from settling his grievance with Ye Yan, he resisted, killed Ye Yan, and escaped. The ancestor then removed Ye Qing as lineage head 12 15 17 18 19.

Four Regions and the main academy

Ye Qiubai led the Southern Region Hidden Dao Academy to first place in the Four Regions Exchange, helping Qin Tiannan retain his position as dean. At the main academy, repeated battles in the Land of Hundred Refinements improved his swordsmanship and raised his ranking to fifth 76 87.

Near Dao-Seeking Mountain, he met Mu Ziqing, whose physique froze nearby people and objects. His Intent of Unending Life allowed him to approach her unharmed. He cooked grilled fish for her, and she directed him toward Sword Peak’s sword marks 83 84.

His achievements there earned him an opportunity to enter the Hidden Sword Sect’s Sword Tomb. Inside, he advanced beyond the heights previously reached by the sect’s disciples and began forming a sword within his dantian 87 99 139.

Sunset Dynasty conflict and inheritance trials

Ye Qiubai regarded the Sunset Dynasty as a mortal enemy because of its repeated attempts on his life. Although Jiang Tianhan warned that Jiang Chan had joined a power beyond his reach, Ye Qiubai refused to abandon his grievances. The dynasty later attempted to use his father as leverage against him 16 46 57 92.

In an ancient trial, he overcame a regenerating forest formation by incorporating the Intent of Unending Life into his Sword Domain. The next trial confronted him with a wooden figure that reproduced his own techniques and Sword Domain, giving him an opportunity to examine his swordsmanship 144 145.

Travels beyond the Wilderness Realm

Ye Qiubai set out with Xiao Hei and Shi Sheng, and the three established the Cottage Mercenary Group. Their travels brought them into conflicts involving mercenary escorts, major lineages, and the City Lord’s Manor. Ye Qiubai defeated a Half-Emperor contestant who had selected him as the supposedly weakest member of the trio 265 278 314 315.

At the Starfall Sword Sect, he earned Zhang Yunzong’s respect through his sincere appreciation of the Starfall Sword Emperor. He declined an invitation to join because he already had a master. Jian Wufeng later sparred with him at a matched cultivation realm and guided him toward strengthening his basic swordsmanship 344 357.

Lightning tempering and Mid-Latitude battles

After joining Heaven-Hating Peak, Ye Qiubai trained in its hidden Yin-Yang Lightning Pool. The lightning purified his blood and body, while the Primordial Sword Scripture helped him fuse its opposing powers. He subsequently began comprehending the Yin-Yang World-Destroying Lightning Art 504 506.

Representing Heavenly Sword Peak, he defeated Su Mu and rejected Su Muyou’s invitation to join the Su Clan. In Severed Soul City’s inheritance trials, he resisted Qiu Lu’s surprise attack on his stone sword by releasing Yin-Yang World Annihilation Lightning 648 659 671.

Cultivation Tower training brought his Sword Dao to the Half-Step Immortal Sword Realm. He then fought Pan Xie, whose secret technique had temporarily raised him to the Earth Immortal Realm; the forty-ninth strike of his Starfall Sword Technique matched Pan Xie’s attack 719 724.

In Yunmeng City, he secured three factions’ interest in buying all the Cloud Illusion Pills he could supply, then asked Liu Ziru to deliver more from Mu Wan’er. When Mu Ziqing became endangered by the Ice Crystal Trial and an impending Ice God Hall marriage proposal, he went to her and promised to handle the outside pressure while she concentrated on her trial 1029 1047 1051.

At Fortune Temple Village, he selected Mu Shi as a disciple for remaining faithful to his father’s teachings when other candidates abandoned their prospective masters for Ai Xue’s display of power 1156.

Azure Cloud Sword Master legacy

The Primordial Sword Master revealed that he and Ye Qiubai originated from the Azure Cloud Sword Master, who had split his soul and bodily talent through a secret art. Although they possessed separate consciousnesses and life experiences, both carried the Primordial Sword Physique 1214.

Guided by the Azure Cloud Token, Ye Qiubai traveled to Qingming Continent and spent more than ten days on the Qingming Sea. He eventually received an inheritance containing the Azure Cloud Sword Master’s insights, power of origin, and a technique he integrated into his Sword Domain 1438 1475.

He later fought Xuanyuan Che to a draw, both suffering severe wounds. Further training against an azure-robed swordsman exposed weaknesses in his practical swordsmanship; by concentrating his Mind’s Eye on his Sword Heart, he learned to sustain their exchanges without injury 1656 1791 1793.

When reunited with the Azure Cloud Sword Master, Ye Qiubai again encountered the Primordial Sword Master, now associated with the Divine Realm. With Lu Changsheng supervising afterward, the Azure Cloud Sword Master placed a divided soul into the Cloud Azure Sword and sent his main soul toward Ye Qiubai’s brow 1927 1928 1930 1937.

Return and the Heart-Questioning Illusion

After the realms became connected, Ye Qiubai returned to the Azure Cloud Sword Sect with Xuanyuan Tianzhao and Xuanyuan Che. His disciple Hao Tian welcomed him and told him Mu Ziqing was there; Ye Qiubai chose to spend time with her before departing for Heaven Beyond Heaven 2033.

During his Yang Dao comprehension, an imposed Heart-Questioning Illusion returned him to the period before his departure from the Ye Lineage, including his former Third Level Qi Refining cultivation. Personality

Ye Qiubai is upright and unwilling to renounce his principles merely because they have brought him enemies. Even when assassins confront him after his fall, he states that he would make the same choices again. His approach to gratitude and grievance is equally direct: repay kindness and settle genuine enmity 2 7 16.

His loyalty is personal rather than unconditional allegiance to an institution. He returns to danger because Ye Qing is his father, yet loses his former attachment to the Ye Lineage after its treatment of them. He also refuses other factions’ recruitment because he already recognizes Lu Changsheng as his master 12 18 344 648.

He treats difficult opponents as opportunities to refine himself. Rather than become discouraged by his mirror image’s superior experience, he becomes excited by the chance to learn. This willingness to fight does not always mean recklessness: Mu Fusheng trusts that he will not casually enter a battle without confidence 378 817.

Within the Cottage, he is an affectionate eldest senior brother and a frequent scapegoat. Hong Ying repeatedly shifts blame onto him, while Lu Changsheng punishes him with scoldings, cooking duties, and sweeping. Ye Qiubai nevertheless recognizes the concern behind his master’s harsh words 119 235 243 486 999 2034.
