Background / History

Former Devil Master

Xiao Hei previously ruled the Demon King Domain and was renowned throughout the High-Latitude Realm. His downfall came when three traitors cooperated with the Yin Yang Divine Sect and Eight Desolations Divine Sect. His soul escaped, and after Heavenly Devil Disintegration and reincarnation, he was sealed inside a black stone 946 1047 1246.

His recovered memories show him confronting the Yin-Yang Divine Lord and Desolation Lord. Other accounts remember him as someone who resisted two Divine Lord-level forces single-handedly 987 1044.

Recruitment into the Cottage

Lu Changsheng found Xiao Hei after the black stone fell into a mountain range in the Central Region. Without a remembered name, Xiao Hei accepted the name his new master gave him and became his fourth disciple. Lu Changsheng supplied him with the Nine Heavens Devil Halberd and Eternal Devil Body 90 107 244.

Early battles exposed a dangerous loss of control. During a spar with Qin Tiannan, Xiao Hei entered a frenzy and had to be brought back to clarity by Lu Changsheng. Afterward, he could not remember what had happened 98 108.

Recovery of His Memories

The Eternal Devil Body gradually loosened the seal on Xiao Hei’s physique. His first returning memories left him withdrawn for dozens of days, with visible sorrow and anger. Recovering the black stone restored further fragments, including a woman’s warning not to seek her before he was strong enough 207 245.

The Demon Abyss supplied another memory fragment, a familiar fist technique, and control over the Abyss itself. Xiao Hei told his fellow disciples about his past because he considered them family and knew they might become involved in its dangers 411 413.

Later fragments repeatedly showed a chained woman being interrogated about his whereabouts. He eventually recognized her as his younger sister. The restored scenes also revealed a mysterious black wooden box whose contents could change the balance of an entire realm 518 1133.

Holy Devil Lineage

A dragon phantom questioned how Xiao Hei’s original bloodline could have come from the Mortal Realm, explicitly distinguishing it from the golden power granted by Lu Changsheng. The Willow Tree later identified his lineage as the Demon Realm’s Holy Devil Bloodline, once belonging to the strongest clan in that realm’s history 988 1271.

Xiao Hei remained uncertain why fragments scattered by his previous self awakened bloodline abilities he apparently had not possessed in his previous life. Much later, another bearer confirmed their shared lineage and entrusted him with its old enmity against the Divine Realm 1276 1914.

Appearance

• Skin and build: Dark skin and an exceptionally powerful, muscular physique. His muscles are later described as compact rather than excessively large, with the toughness of profound iron 514 607.
• Cultivation markings: Colored patterns spread across his body when he activates the Eternal Devil Body; all nine can eventually appear together 94 1371.
• Combat manifestations: Often surrounded by dark Devil Qi, Blood Qi, and a towering Devil God phantom resembling himself 969.
• Eyes: Can become completely blood-red during uncontrolled savagery. When his Demonic Intent is fully unleashed, they instead become pure black, accompanying a cold, indifferent demeanor 1068 2149.

Personality

Xiao Hei is ordinarily honest, guileless, and taciturn. He rarely initiates conversation and is more comfortable fighting Devil Beasts than finding a topic to discuss. His early interactions with Lu Changsheng and Ye Qiubai show an obedient, respectful disciple rather than a domineering ruler 90 107 279.

Combat reveals a radically different side: savage, bloodthirsty, and eager to meet attacks head-on. As his memories return, the former Devil Master’s arrogance increasingly appears outside his special battle state. Even so, he can acknowledge defeat and humbly seek instruction, as he does after losing to Gu Sheng 632 711 912 1395.

His central loyalty is to the Cottage. Believing himself poor at planning, he resolves to make his body a shield for his master and fellow disciples. This determination drives him to continue training despite warnings of permanent injury 497.

His ferocity does not exclude compassion. When confronted with the fate of Afterglow Village’s victims, he asks Lu Changsheng whether they can be saved rather than turning away from the consequences 246 247.
