Appearance
Li Hebing appears as a refined-looking male student with a guarded gaze that makes his thoughts difficult to read 40.
- Black-framed glasses are his distinguishing accessory 40.
- His initially practiced, polite smile becomes genuinely delighted when Chen Han accepts him as an underling 41.
Personality
Li Hebing is intelligent, observant, and initially conceited. He considers himself a genius and approaches Chen Han expecting an alliance between intellectual equals. When Chen Han walks away, his wounded pride makes him pursue the conversation rather than abandon it 40.
His confidence changes after the classroom-switching incident and the discovery of vegetables hidden in his lunch. Believing Chen Han has repeatedly saved him through superior insight, he becomes an enthusiastic follower. His loyalty eventually outweighs his fear: during the cafeteria seating incident, he remains beside Chen Han rather than risk losing his trust 41 44 45 49.
Despite his genuine perceptiveness, Li Hebing habitually overinterprets Chen Han’s behavior. He mistakes fear-induced immobility for discipline, an urgent restroom visit for rejection, and an attempted bluff for a lifesaving warning 40 41 42 43 44.
Abilities & Skills
Observation and Deduction
Li Hebing closely studies other players and the instance’s students, remembering names, behavior, and apparent character requirements 40 44.
- Identifies the importance of maintaining assigned personas and recognizes that his own role gives him a plausible reason to seek Chen Han’s help 40.
- Notices the students’ amused expressions when ghosts frighten players, suspecting that their apparent indifference conceals hostile intentions 43.
- Deduces that Wang Xihu is an anomaly when his presence fails to trigger the cafeteria’s four-person limit; checks this conclusion by questioning Li Zhan 49.
- Can overlook immediate dangers while concentrating on persuading or interpreting Chen Han, as shown when he nearly enters the wrong classroom 41.
Acting and Concealed Communication
Li Hebing uses his academically ambitious student persona to disguise player cooperation 40 47.
- Holds up a test paper and loudly asks study questions while privately discussing an alliance 40.
- Brings a vocabulary notebook to Chen Han’s table, presenting his attempt to gather information as a desire to learn from top students 47 48.
- Redirects a revealing question about Chen Han’s nonexistent deskmate into an innocent request to become his deskmate, while pretending not to notice Wang Xihu’s response 49.
Equipment / Items
- Math test paper — Shows a score of 123 on his introduction and serves as a prop for approaching Chen Han without breaking character 40.
- Vocabulary notebook — Filled with densely written vocabulary words; supports his studious persona when he joins Chen Han’s meal 47.
Relationships
- Chen Han — Boss and ally. Li Hebing initially seeks an equal partnership, then pledges himself as an underling after believing Chen Han saved him from entering the wrong classroom. Chen Han privately values his intelligence and recognizes that Li Hebing’s discovery also saved him 40 41 42.
- Chen Yinuo — An intended information source. Li Hebing joins his study conversation to stay near Chen Han and obtain clues, but finds that his nonstop academic talk offers nothing useful 47 48.
- Li Zhan — Confirms that Chen Han has no deskmate, providing crucial support for Li Hebing’s deduction about Wang Xihu 49.
- Wang Xihu — An anomaly Li Hebing initially mistakes for Chen Han’s deskmate. After discovering his nature, Li Hebing conceals his awareness even when Wang Xihu mouths a warning against taking his seat 48 49.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Alliance Proposal and Classroom Switch
Li Hebing introduces himself by asking Chen Han to explain a math problem. In private, he reveals that he has been observing Chen Han’s apparent adherence to his top-student persona during other players’ punishments. He proposes an alliance built around their compatible student roles, but Chen Han interrupts him and heads to the restroom. Taking this as rejection, Li Hebing follows and persists 40.
On their return, Chen Han’s question—“Are you really a smart person?”—prompts Li Hebing to reassess the classroom ahead. He discovers that its sign has changed from Grade 12, Class 8 to Grade 12, Class 1. Convinced Chen Han deliberately warned him, he asks to become his underling and is accepted 41.
In reality, Chen Han had only intended to bluff him and had not noticed the switch. Li Hebing’s explanation alerts Chen Han to the danger, and the two reach their actual classroom at the opposite end of the corridor 42.
Hidden Vegetables
At lunch, Li Hebing deliberately chooses a seat from which he can watch Chen Han. When Chen Han’s spoon exposes green vegetables beneath his rice, Li Hebing realizes that inspecting only the surface of a meal is insufficient. He searches his own lunch and uncovers vegetables on the third spoonful, avoiding food forbidden by the cafeteria rules 44.
He credits Chen Han with saving his life again. A subsequent nod from Chen Han further convinces him that he should watch his boss’s every movement for guidance 44 45.
Discovering Wang Xihu’s Identity
At the evening meal, Li Hebing joins Chen Han and Chen Yinuo under the pretext of seeking study advice. Li Zhan also joins them, bringing the group to four. When Wang Xihu sits down, Li Hebing fears they must move within ten seconds to avoid punishment 47 48.
Chen Han’s casual nod persuades him to stay. After the deadline passes harmlessly, Li Hebing reexamines the rule’s reference to “people” and concludes that Wang Xihu is not human. Li Zhan’s statement that Chen Han has no deskmate confirms his suspicion. Li Hebing then maintains his cover rather than reveal that he can see the anomaly 49.
