Before his death, Chen Han worked as a delivery rider. Despite being easily frightened, he enjoyed watching rules horror and understood how contradictory instructions could become lethal traps. After dying in a truck accident, he awakened inside Happy Family, an instance requiring him to survive twelve hours 1.

He remains attached to his former life. When he believes he is about to die again, he regrets being unable to care for his parents in their old age. Later, he imagines hearing his mother’s everyday chatter and drinking with his father around the family dining table 6 37.

Personality

Chen Han is timid, easily startled, and prone to freezing when confronted by anomalies. His apparent composure is frequently the result of being too frightened to move rather than exceptional nerve. He also describes himself as slow, absent-minded, and inclined to slack off, sometimes becoming so distracted that he misses conversations or briefly forgets his dangerous surroundings 3 4 5 39.

He is not naturally violent. After receiving his second strength enhancement, he imagines knocking a hostile player unconscious but immediately acknowledges that he has always preferred peace. His assistance to Fang Lei also goes beyond appearances: he physically pulls the exhausted man to safety during a blackout 28 36.

Although he accepts followers’ admiration without fully understanding it, Chen Han recognizes their usefulness. He credits Fang Lei with genuine potential after Fang Lei finds their route, and privately considers taking Li Hebing as an underling worthwhile when Li warns him about the relocated classroom 33 42.

• Li Hebing — School-instance underling. Initially proposes an alliance between their compatible student personas, then pledges himself to Chen Han after believing Chen Han saved him from entering the wrong classroom. In reality, Li Hebing’s warning also saves Chen Han from that mistake 40 41 42.
• Li Chen — Devoted livestream viewer and self-appointed analyst. Repeatedly interprets Chen Han’s fear, mistakes, and coincidences as evidence of sophisticated planning. Chen Han cannot see the livestream chat from his perspective 1 6 7 46.
• Chen Yinuo — Non-player classmate who treats Chen Han as an established friend and fellow high achiever. Accompanies him to meals and talks almost continuously about studying, exams, and universities 42 45.
• Mommy / Mom — Hostile Happy Family anomaly posing as his mother. Becomes convinced his apparent fear is an act and regards him as an unusually difficult player 5 6 7.
• Silver-shaded cat and severed head — Their reunion produces a man and woman’s phantoms, who thank Chen Han before destroying the remaining anomaly 11.
• Kid Bro — Bloodied child who guides Chen Han and Fang Lei out of the pool, then endangers them on the path. Their encounter ultimately leads to the hidden ending “Ingratitude” and Chen Han’s second reward item 28 30 33 36.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Happy Family

Chen Han enters his first instance at 8:00 a.m., facing a twelve-hour survival requirement. Mommy’s rules simultaneously demand that he finish her cooking and never eat it, while also requiring him to remain near her 1.

His frightened or absent-minded actions repeatedly spare him: he eats cat food instead of Mommy’s cooking, reflexively slaps the golden-shaded cat, and sleeps on the sofa rather than investigating the trap-filled house. At lunch, he drops a basin of raw meat, allowing the golden-shaded cat to eat it instead 3 4 5 6.

After the golden-shaded cat swallows the white pills and collapses, Chen Han conceals the incident by telling Mom that it is tired. As Mom begins changing into Dad, he discovers a living severed head in the kitchen 8 9.

With seconds remaining, he brings the head to the silver-shaded cat. Their reunion releases two phantoms who destroy the anomaly, earning him a perfect clear, the Cat Paw Badge, and his first enhancement 11 12.

Happy Kids Swimming Pool

In his second instance, Chen Han joins four other players and gains Fang Lei as a follower. The group faces lethal swimming challenges, hourly blackouts, and an illuminated safe area that shrinks over time 13 17 20 23.

After surviving the pool, Chen Han and Fang Lei follow a bloodied child into freezing darkness. Sharing a towel resolves one immediate conflict, while the arrival of children in red gives them an opportunity to escape Kid Bro. Fang Lei then follows white petals to an old tree, where they discover the child’s corpse alongside the three dead players 28 30 31 33.

Xiaobai guides them to the exit. Chen Han escapes because his swimming ticket was left with the ticket seller, then witnesses the truth behind the class monitor’s death. The instance awards him a second perfect clear for triggering “Ingratitude” 35 36.

Overseas Chinese Middle School

After skipping his twenty-four-hour rest period, Chen Han enters his third instance as one of twelve players. His assigned persona is a top student, complete with a 150-point mathematics paper, despite his having forgotten much of his actual schoolwork 36 37 38 39.

He gains Li Hebing as an underling and learns that classrooms can relocate. Cafeteria dangers include forbidden vegetables concealed beneath rice, while Wang Xihu repeatedly attempts to draw him into dangerous conversation 41 42 44 46.

Chen Han investigates the fifth-floor academic affairs office and learns that the homeroom teacher carries its key. He also discovers that quiz results automatically adjust to each player’s assigned persona, removing his fear that poor answers will expose him 46 47.

Livestream Reputation

Chen Han’s reputation as a brilliant veteran rests heavily on the gap between what observers believe and what he actually experiences 3 6 42 47.
