" Batman?"
Nite Owl repeated the strange name, already guessing what it meant—a Chinese homonym?
Chen Mo nodded.
"That's right, you have the power of money, like to wear black tights, and go out to fight crime in the middle of the night. Except for the helmet design, you're basically the same model."
Nite Owl stared at him, nodded, and his mind raced.
Of course he knows Batman.
In the boundless multiverse, there exist countless similar worlds. Individuals in different worlds may share the same identity, or they may lead completely opposite lives.
Batman is him from another world.
Nite Owl was certain that those idiots in the Crime Syndicate were unaware of this part of the intelligence.
In other words, the other side already knew about Batman before they ate those idiots.
They even have a deep understanding of it.
"So, you've been to his world?"
"No."
Chen Mo twirled the communicator in his hand and casually said, "My people usually watch him get beaten up through a screen."
The Nite Owl paused for two seconds, then quickly understood what he meant.
A world capable of observing other universes.
Or rather, a special dimension that treats other universes as stories.
If that's the case, then it's not surprising that Chen Mo knows about Batman.
What's really strange is why he's never heard of Chen Mo before?
Such a power level interdimensional being, or rather, a special dimension, could not possibly exist without leaving a trace. Unless Chen Mo comes from a universe that has not yet been observed by them, or...
Everyone who saw him is dead.
The Nite Owl swallowed his astonishment, his face remaining unchanged.
The backup of consciousness is still ongoing.
The last eleven seconds.
"So, you treated me as a replacement for him? And then you let me off the hook?"
Don't get me wrong, they have more principles than you.
Chen Mo looked up at him and added with a smile, "Of course, you're more relaxed than him, and you have less psychological burden when killing your teammates."
Nite Owl didn't refute; having a plan for his teammates was his instinct.
"I'm curious, how much else do you know?"
Are you checking my household registration or just having a casual chat?
Chen Mo leaned back in his chair and gently tapped the black crystal with his finger.
A dim light flashed inside the crystal, but it quickly returned to calm.
The Nite Owl's gaze lingered on the dim light for a moment, its vigilance rising even higher.
Eight seconds.
Chen Mo is able to traverse worlds and knows the secrets of different worlds. This means that the intelligence held by the Crime Syndicate may not be valuable to him.
To survive, he had to provide Chen Mo with information he didn't know.
"Does your world treat us as just a story?"
The Nite Owl continued to probe.
"Pretty much, but your role isn't very big."
Chen Mo thought for a moment and commented seriously, "The main problem is that you look too much like that guy next door, making it easy for the audience to mistake you for a swapped-out character, which forces you to live in the shadow of Batman."
Nite Owl narrowed his eyes, his lips beneath the mask tightening slightly. "I live in his shadow? This is definitely a psychological tactic."
Five seconds.
He has determined that Chen Mo knows about the multiverse, and that he may have been exposed to the multiverse even before the Crime Syndicate.
Therefore, the probability of a successful consciousness backup is very low.
Since Chen Mo was able to discover the base hidden deep in the moon, he could naturally also discover that independent route.
Three seconds.
But the Nite Owl did not terminate the procedure.
Any plan with a non-zero probability is worth trying. Even if only one backup body successfully awakens, he can regain the initiative.
One second.
Time resets to zero.
The Nite Owl sat quietly in its spot, waiting for the remote clone to send back a confirmation signal.
Nothing happened.
There was no neural feedback, no encrypted receipts, and even the energy fluctuations at the lowest level of the system completely disappeared.
As expected.
Nite Owl just felt a little regretful.
Chen Mo has already been exposed to multiple worlds. In his long experience of crossing boundaries, there must have been people who used similar methods.
The same trick is unlikely to fool him a second time.
Did you wait?
Chen Mo suddenly asked.
Nite Owl looked at him, spread his hands, taking that as his answer.
Chen Mo reached out and patted the armrest of the seat. A few strands of dark red substance emerged from the gaps and quickly merged into his palm.
"Your internet speed isn't very good. Thirty seconds have passed, and the upload progress is still zero."
Nite Owl glanced down at the armrest.
The independent circuits had long been filled with black and red matter, and the core chip connecting the consciousness reading device had also disappeared.
It turns out that the task of running the reboot plan was doomed to fail from the very beginning.
"I'd like to know, when did you discover it?"
"While you're completely focused on the screen."
Chen Mo shrugged, his tone utterly innocent. "You have so much equipment hidden under your butt, it's hard for me to pretend I can't see it."
Silence fell over the command center once again.
Nite Owl abandoned his plan to be reborn in another world.
But that doesn't mean he should close his eyes and wait to die.
Since Chen Mo kept him around for fun, then he could provide plenty of fun.
As long as Chen Mo remains interested in him, he won't die.
At least not for now.
Nite Owl spun around in his chair and pulled up the base's coordinate database. A large number of universe identifiers appeared on the screen, most of which were no longer valid.
Chen Mo looked up.
"What, are you going to show me around your bookmarks?"
"You want to see something interesting? I can give you that."
Nite Owl opened the encrypted directory, and only seven complete sets of coordinates remained on the screen.
These coordinates have no names, only hazard levels and basic observation records. Six groups are marked in red, and the last group is in black.
"The contact information for the person behind the scenes might not be enough to lure him out. But I have coordinates from other worlds, each one real and valid."
Chen Mo watched for a while, but his expression didn't show much reaction.
"Continue."
Nite Owl clicked on the set of black coordinates.
Several blurry images appeared on the screen.
A golden-red cloak swept across the sky, yellow-green light pierced the universe, and a massive shadow lurked beneath the sea. In the last photograph, seven figures stood inside a circular hall.
Nite Owl observed Chen Mo's expression.
This time, he finally found a bit of interest.
We were originally going to go to this world.
What happened next?
Chen Mo sat up a little straighter.
Nite Owl turned off all other screens, leaving only the complete set of coordinates.
" Ultraman considered the risks too high and rejected my proposal."
At this point, Nite Owl paused briefly.
If Ultraman had agreed, they would have left their original universe long ago and wouldn't have chosen to invade this place.
In hindsight, Ultraman made a terrible decision.
After all, he is now dead at Chen Mo's hands.
Nite Owl pointed to the screen and calmly said, "These are the coordinates of the world we originally planned to invade."
