So, who agrees and who disagrees?
Chen Mo stood next to the Earth projection, his gaze sweeping over everyone in the conference room.
No one spoke immediately.
Nick Fury looked at the rotating globe model and felt that his position as director was somewhat superfluous. Chen Mo said it was a discussion, but if it were really a discussion, wouldn't he have held a small meeting first to determine the outcome before calling everyone in to ask for their agreement? This wasn't a meeting; it was just announcing the results.
" Chen Mo, integrating global defense isn't something we can accomplish by sitting here and announcing a result."
Fury braced his hands on the table. " The World Security Council of various countries will not relinquish their authority, much less allow S.H.I.E.L.D.. to easily take over their defense systems."
" Nick Fury, who said S.H.I.E.L.D.. took over?"
Chen Mo looked at him strangely. "Your headquarters was just demolished, and your temporary base is borrowed. Do you think I would entrust my global defense to you?"
Fury's face darkened further. Although he was naturally dark-skinned, everyone could tell he was in a bad mood. Hawkeye lowered his head to adjust the arrows, and Black Widow raised her water glass to cover her mouth. Fury paused for two seconds, then skipped over the matter.
"There is a lack of trust between the various factions. Even technological cooperation is scarce. Everyone has their own secret projects, and a large number of superhumans operate outside the system, unsupervised by any organization."
Fury opened the map, and dozens of red dots appeared on it. "If any party refuses to cooperate, the entire plan will be incomplete."
"Then let's start with those who are willing to cooperate."
Tony raised his hand and zoomed in on the Earth model. "Technically speaking, this isn't a problem. I can build an independent early warning network and connect it to the existing satellite network to achieve surveillance and control over everyone. There's no possibility of being unregulated."
Fury turned to look at him.
" Stark, do you know what this means?"
"That means I'll have to work overtime for free again."
Tony spread his hands. "Just a heads-up, I've had enough freebies lately. Next time someone tries to dismantle S.H.I.E.L.D.., you'd better have the repair costs ready."
Tony did support Chen Mo's plan; more accurately, he didn't think his opposition would be effective.
No one can stop Chen Mo from doing what he's set out to do. It's better to join in early, at least to keep an eye on Chen Mo and make sure he doesn't turn the global defense system into an automated predator.
He added, "I was responsible for designing the system, and core permissions cannot be delegated to one person."
"Don't worry, I'm not interested in your cameras."
Chen Mo pulled out a chair and sat down. "I already know what I wanted to know about your privacy."
The meeting room fell silent again.
Fury suddenly missed Hydra. At least they had to hack into databases to steal intelligence, while Chen Mo could even read the database administrator's data in one go.
Captain America thought for a moment, then frowned and said, "I think a comprehensive plan is necessary, but the actions shouldn't be too drastic. Suddenly announcing that Earth is facing a threat from another universe will only cause greater panic."
Chen Mo nodded, unusually without smiling. Captain America's worries were justified; the news of the headquarters being breached couldn't be kept secret. If they told the world now that there were people lining up to get in from beyond the universe, supermarket canned goods would probably sell out in half a day.
"They didn't say they would make it public."
Chen Mo tapped the table. "Let's eliminate the controllable dangers first, then build an early warning system. Hold a press conference when we can no longer hide it."
Tony raised an eyebrow. "Who's going to speak?"
Chen Mo looked at Fury: "Of course it's the director; he has more credibility."
Fury remained expressionless, suspecting that Chen Mo simply thought it would be more entertaining to have a one-eyed Black man announce a multiverse invasion.
Bang!
Thor slammed his hand on the table, causing the water glass to shake a few times.
"This is simple: whoever refuses to cooperate, let him experience the thunder of Asgard!"
Black Widow glanced at the table and noted, "This table costs three thousand dollars."
Thor quickly withdrew his hand.
Three thousand dollars? Is this table made of gold?
"Anyway, the invoice price is this high."
Hawkeye glanced at the corner of the table. "We even paid taxes on this!"
Thor's expression froze, and he silently hid Mjolnir behind his legs. He had just gone to a candlelight dinner with Erin two days ago, and he was broke.
Loki, who had been leaning against the wall, chuckled.
" The Midgardian are not best at war, but at arguing about who should sit in the seat of honor before the war even begins."
Thor turned to look at him. " Loki, you support this plan too?"
What does this have to do with me?
Loki crossed his arms. "I just want to see how long it takes you to turn a defense plan into a power struggle."
Fury stared at him.
If he hadn't known that his father was very powerful, and might even have made Chen Mo consider speaking politely, he would have really wanted to drag this sarcastic Asgardians out and beat him to death.
Banner adjusted his glasses. "I can help Tony with energy monitoring. Transmission between different universes will definitely leave behind special radiation."
"Very good, two votes from the science group."
Chen Mo pointed at Captain America, "One vote for him cautiously. One vote for Thor unconditionally. Loki is useless, but for now, he counts as a family vote."
Loki's eye twitched, he opened his mouth, but in the end he didn't refute it.
Because Chen Mo was already looking at him.
His gaze was calm, and his meaning was direct.
You'd better have no objections.
Loki chuckled and raised his hands, making the classic France gesture.
Chen Mo then looked at Hawkeye and Black Widow. The two exchanged a glance and then looked at Fury. As agents, they should, in principle, listen to the director in such matters. But principles also depend on who you're dealing with.
"I have no objection," Black Widow said.
Hawkeye nodded. "I'll take care of shooting those who disagree?"
Tony said with satisfaction, "Very good, Clinton, you finally understand your place."
Hawkeye lowered the arrow and began to seriously consider whether he should wait two seconds longer to save Tony in the next battle.
Chen Mo leaned back in his chair, a smile spreading across his face. "You see, most of them have agreed. As for the rest..."
He paused for a moment, his gaze falling on the Earth projection.
The World Security Council of various countries, hidden forces, secret organizations, and those dangerous individuals who thought they were hiding well were all marked with red dots by Chen Mo.
"They didn't even come to the meeting, so who cares about their opinions?"
Fury rubbed his temples. He knew this wasn't a request for opinions; Chen Mo's willingness to sit and listen was already a great favor to everyone in the room. Stopping it was impossible; he could only try to keep it under control to avoid Chen Mo personally coming to persuade the representatives in his own way—a method usually unsuitable for keeping meeting minutes.
"I can speak with the Council first."
Fury turned off the Earth projection, his single eye filled with exhaustion. "But you must promise me, don't come knocking on their door before they give you a formal reply."
"No problem."
Chen Mo agreed very readily.
Fury, instead, became wary. "How much time are you going to give them?"
Chen Mo took out his phone and glanced at it.
Before I leave work today.
Fury was so angry he laughed.
"It's 6 PM! They've already gone home!"
