First in the City, Treated Like a National Treasure
Two days later, the exam results came out.
The name of the student who had placed first in the citywide mock exam was displayed high up on the scrolling red screen in front of the teaching building.
A line of text scrolled across the huge screen: Congratulations to Ye Huo of freshman media and music class seven on her outstanding achievement of first place in the city, in recognition of her accomplishment!
"Wow, boss, you're the GOAT!"
"Wow, Sister Huo, congratulations on doing so well!"
"Wow, Sister Huo, you're our school's pride."
The students greeted her happily.
With her backpack on, Ye Huo glanced at her name on the screen. Her eyebrows rose almost imperceptibly, and she pursed her lips. It looked like she had gotten that last major problem right.
The answer was "9¾."
Back in the classroom.
The first period was taught by their homeroom teacher, Teacher Zhou. She came in carrying a thick stack of exam papers, a hint of pride showing on her stern face.
She had good reason to be happy. In the past, the students with outstanding grades had always come from the elite classes. This time, their ordinary class had finally gotten a chance to shine.
Teacher Zhou stood at the podium and tapped the desk with a ruler, asking the students to quiet down. It was time to hand out the papers and announce the results.
"I have good news about this citywide joint exam. The highest scorer in the city is in our class. She got full marks in math, English, and history, and 119 in Chinese, losing one point on her essay. Her total score ranked first in the city!"
Teacher Zhou's eyes were full of excitement. She cleared her throat and continued, "She is none other than our own class seven student-Ye Huo. It's worth mentioning that the last major problem on this math exam was beyond the syllabus.
"There was no way to solve it with ordinary calculations. It required knowledge of extremely difficult functions.
"And this time, only two students in the whole school got that final math problem right. One was Mo Yu, the young Mathematical Olympiad genius, and the other was our own Ye Huo!"
"Yeah, Sister Huo is so amazing!"
"Go, top student!"
"Sister Huo, you're our idol!"
Whoosh!
Cheers erupted in the classroom. All forty-odd students turned to look at Ye Huo as though she were a super top student glowing from head to toe.
Gu Wanyang and Lu Zichen were so shocked their jaws dropped. The boss had been right beside them all along.
A cool, proud light flickered in Ye Huo's phoenix eyes, and a faint smile curved her lips.
She had inherited her parents' intelligence and had an extremely high IQ. No matter how complicated a formula was, she could remember it after learning it once.
These freshman exams were no challenge to her at all.
Teacher Zhou personally handed Ye Huo her papers.
She looked at her with admiration and praised her. "Ye Huo has brought honor to our class this time, so for this period, I've decided to pay out of my own pocket for KFC family buckets. How about we eat snacks and watch a movie in the classroom?"
"Oh, yeah!"
"Teacher, you're the best!"
"Sister Huo, I love you!"
The students cheered, nearly lifting the roof off.
Teacher Zhou smiled in satisfaction. Just then, the KFC delivery she had ordered arrived.
She directed several of the strong boys in the class to fetch the KFC from the school gate, one family bucket per person.
The students happily gnawed on chicken legs as they watched a StarCraft movie.
Ye Huo became famous in a single battle.
Through word of mouth among the students, she had become a legend at St. Peter.
All the students revered her as a study god, and countless eyes followed her wherever she went.
Ye Huo was a little bored.
Her English teacher had just finished praising her, and the next period, her math teacher started praising her again. The period after that, her Chinese teacher praised her yet again.
News of this reached Bai Yaxi in class three. Her eyes turned red with jealousy as she looked at the scores on her papers: 90 in Chinese, 92 in math, 95 in English, and 91 in history.
Her exam ranking had fallen outside the top fifty. She clenched her fingers tightly, wishing she could tear all the papers to pieces!
She had planned to use this citywide exam to make a name for herself, but she had never expected Ye Huo to ruin it.
Becoming a top student was every student's dream, and Bai Yaxi would never allow anyone to stand in her way-
She was extremely upset.
Zhang Yanyan and Lin Jing were also furious. They decided to teach the new brat a proper lesson.
At noon, Ye Huo and Gu Wanyang went to the cafeteria to get lunch.
When the cafeteria lady at the serving window saw Ye Huo, she immediately gave her several extra scoops of red-braised pork, chicken legs, and sweet-and-sour ribs. Beaming, she said, "Here, pretty girl, I'll give you a little extra. You work so hard at your studies. Getting first place in the whole city can't have been easy, can it? If my son's grades were half as good as yours, I'd thank heaven and earth!"
"No, it was very easy for me."
Ye Huo spoke calmly.
She was telling the truth. For someone like her, whose brain had already been developed to ninety-nine percent,
College courses were like child's play. She only had to glance at a question, and the answer would appear in her mind automatically.
She didn't work hard, not one bit.
The cafeteria lady thought the girl was just being modest and gave her two more bowls of rice.
Ye Huo pulled Gu Wanyang over to sit down, picked up her chopsticks, and dug in.
She mentioned that she was thirsty, and a student immediately brought her a freshly purchased bottle of herbal tea in a red bottle.
Then she mentioned that her shoulders were sore, and Lu Zichen and several admirers immediately crowded around to massage them.
To the entire university, Ye Huo was a national treasure.
The principal had specifically instructed them to take every possible care of such a promising genius and never let her suffer the slightest grievance at school.
The teachers of every subject did a complete one-eighty in their attitudes toward Ye Huo.
Whenever they saw her, every one of them would walk over, pat her head, pat her shoulder, and ask how her day was going.
It was as if doing so would let them bask in the good fortune of a national treasure.
It left Ye Huo speechless.
Before school ended that afternoon.
The principal led a large group of teachers to Ye Huo's class, bringing flowers, certificates, a silk banner, and a crystal trophy, with a long banner stretched out between them.
"Student Huohuo, listen as I thank you. Thanks to you, our school has won the honor of first place in the city. To recognize this, we've decided to award you the title of Best Three-Good Student!"
The principal spoke excitedly, his eyes brimming with tears.
Ye Huo looked at her watch, her face cold. "Hurry up. Don't delay me from going home."
"..."
The principal froze for a moment.
As expected of a genius transfer student-even when accepting an award, she had such personality.
He respectfully wiped his hands, took the red commendation wreath from the vice principal, and placed it on the girl's head. Then he presented Ye Huo with a large bouquet, a certificate, and the trophy.
The teachers stood together in front of the top student Ye Huo for a photo, and the ceremony was complete.
Leaving the teachers behind, Ye Huo took her flowers and certificate, grabbed her best friend, and drove home.
When she got home, her mother had finished cooking and was already waiting for Huohuo.
Nothing made them happier than having their daughter come home from school to a delicious, fragrant meal.
"Baby Huohuo, you're finally home! How was your day at school? Did anyone dare bully my precious daughter?"
Dad took Ye Huo's backpack and asked with a smile.
"No, Dad. I won an award."
Ye Huo pulled her exam papers and a pile of certificates out of her backpack to show her parents.
When they heard their precious daughter had placed first in the exam,
The whole family erupted.
In the A Loving Family group chat,
Mom Jian Yan happily took photos and sent Huohuo's certificates to the group. Her three older brothers went wild sending red packets below them in celebration.
"My little sister is amazing."
A ¥5,200 red packet from her eldest brother, Ye Mo.
"My little sister is the cutest girl in the whole world."
A ¥131,413 red packet from her second brother, Ye Chen.
"My little sister is so cool. Well done!"
A ¥66,666 red packet from her third brother, Ye Fan.
Her maternal grandfather and paternal grandfather were also delighted.
The two old men took turns praising their precious Huohuo in the family group chat.
Wave after wave of red packets rained down without stopping.
Ye Huo sat on the sofa with her phone in her arms, her finger tapping nonstop.
Before long, she had received 880,000 yuan in red packets.
Now she had money.
Ye Huo smiled happily.
Mom Jian Yan and Dad Ye Chuan were grinning from ear to ear, though they had never expected their precious daughter's grades to be particularly good.
But seeing that Ye Huo had actually placed first,
What parents wouldn't be happy? They went wild boasting in the relatives' group chat about how pretty their precious daughter was, how well-behaved she was, and how good her grades were!
It stirred up a wave of sour lemon jealousy in the group.
The distant relatives all praised Huohuo in the group, then tagged their own sons and daughters. "Look at Huohuo! She came first in the entire city and got full marks in math and English. She's so amazing.
"Learn from Huohuo and pay attention in class. If you do badly on your exams, just watch me tan your hide!"
Ye Huo had become famous in the relatives' group chat too.
Everyone would envy a family with a daughter like that!!
