Chapters 26–50 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 26The Mine Outskirts

Aige reached the outskirts of Goldshire Mine near dusk and chose to clear the Kobolds blocking his route to Hall Farm before finding a place to stay. He farmed them with the Goldshire Footman and Wisps while reflecting at length on Hearthstone strategies.

  • Aige spotted Goldshire Mine and decided against entering it at night.
  • Aige chose Hall Farm as his destination and found Kobolds blocking the way.
  • Aige decided to fight the Kobolds rather than detour, using his Goldshire Footman and two Wisps to support his attacks.
  • Aige defeated scattered Kobolds for experience, copper, cloth, and possible Arcane Dust or cards.
  • Aige discussed how aggro decks could be countered and argued that deck construction and player skill mattered alongside cards and luck.

Ch. 27Seeking Shelter

After grinding Kobolds and collecting coins, linen, and Arcane Dust, Aige went to Hall Farm to seek a safe place to sleep. Shat Hall welcomed him as an honored guest, and Aige clarified that he was only an apprentice Mage.

  • Aige finished killing the Kobolds in the mine’s outer area and counted his haul of coins, linen, and 140 units of Arcane Dust.
  • With night approaching, Aige left his two Wisps and the Goldshire Footman in Hero Space and headed for Hall Farm.
  • Two sheepdogs stopped Aige at the owner’s house, but Shat Hall called them off and invited him inside.
  • Shat introduced Aige to his mother and grandmother as an honored Mage, and Aige corrected him by explaining that he was an apprentice Mage.

  • Hall Farm’s owner welcomed Aige and served him pork pies and grain liquor.
  • Aige offered to help the family, and Shate suggested he search for Mrs. Stonefield’s missing necklace.
  • Mrs. Stonefield described the necklace and said children at Beech Farm might know something about it, while Kobolds near the mine could be involved.

  • Aige learned Polymorph and considered how its crowd-control effect would help him fight multiple enemies.

Ch. 29Replacing Chapter 28

Aige received a warm welcome at Hall Farm and accepted a quest to find Mrs. Stonefield’s missing necklace, which might have been taken by Kobolds near the mine. After reaching mage level eight, he learned Polymorph, a powerful crowd-control spell that strengthened his ability to face multiple enemies.

  • Mrs. Stonefield welcomed Aige to Hall Farm and served him pork pies and grain liquor.
  • Aige offered to help with a task, and Shate suggested he search for his mother’s missing gold necklace.
  • Mrs. Stonefield described the necklace and mentioned that a child at Beech Farm might know something about it.
  • Aige accepted the quest to find the necklace and received a promise of linen gloves and a Priest card as rewards.
  • Aige learned Polymorph after reaching mage level eight and considered how it could help him control enemies in combat.

Ch. 30Stonetusk Boar

Aige went to Beech Farm to find a lead on a necklace, but Kate Beech demanded a Stonetusk Boar meat pie before he would talk. Aige accepted Sally’s quest to kill boars, completed it, and found a Boar card; he left with no word yet about the necklace.

  • Aige regretted refusing Mrs. Stonefield’s offer of pork pies when Kate Beech said he might remember the necklace if he got one.
  • Sally offered Aige a quest to kill at least four Stonetusk Boars and bring her their pork, promising to make Kate talk.
  • Aige waited in a remote radish field and killed eight Stonetusk Boars with help from a Goldshire Footman, Wisps, Polymorph, and Frostbolt.
  • Aige looted a one-star basic neutral Boar card from the largest boar and examined its Beast type and Charge ability.

Ch. 31Goldshire's Predicament

Aige completed the Stonetusk Boar quest, learned that Goldtooth likely had a lost gold necklace, and headed for the Kobold-infested mine. The chapter left Goldshire facing a much wider crisis, with hostile forces appearing across the region and the town surrounded by enemies.

  • Kushou changed the Book of Hearthstone rules so summoned minions lasted until six the next morning, except for zero-cost Wisps.
  • Aige completed the Stonetusk Boar quest, received experience, copper coins, and a Boar card, then accepted Sally and Kate’s invitation to lunch.
  • Kate told Aige that a Kobold had chased him after he found a gold necklace near Hall Farm, and that Goldtooth might now have it in the mine.
  • Aige cleared Kobolds near the mine and set out to find Goldtooth and the necklace.

  • Constable Paul faced reports of Kobolds, Murlocs, Diafei bandits, and hostile beasts attacking settlements and facilities around Goldshire.

Ch. 32There's a Cave Here

Paul struggled to manage the fallout after Stormwind City took most of Goldshire’s warriors, while Aige explored the Goldshire Mine with his followers to fight Kobolds and gather loot. Aige’s party settled into an efficient routine and continued deeper into the mine, where its rich copper deposits tempted him to start mining.

  • Paul recruited a few warriors from outposts, but Stormwind City’s knights took seventy percent of Goldshire’s veteran warriors to support Lakeshire.
  • Paul shut the Goldshire Security Office to visitors as local workers protested the loss of warriors and the workshops’ inability to meet orders without raw ore.
  • Aige entered the Goldshire Mine with a Goldshire Footman and two Wisps protecting him in a standard party formation.
  • Aige’s party fought Kobold miners and overseers, with the footman absorbing blows while Aige healed him and conserved mana.
  • Aige noticed the mine’s abundant rich copper veins and considered mining with a Kobold pickaxe he had acquired.
  • Aige’s party used Frostbolt, Taunt, Wisps, and Lesser Fireballs to kill Kobolds and collect their coins, ore, cloth, and quest items.

Ch. 33Big Goldtooth

Aige assessed the powerful Kobold leader Goldtooth, whose gold tooth and necklace had made him the tribe’s self-styled tycoon, and weighed whether to spend a minion card to fight him. He chose to conserve his cards and attacked with Frostbolt and Fireball as Goldtooth charged with an enormous iron shovel.

  • Aige rested before confronting Goldtooth, a named rare leader monster who carried the quest necklace around his neck.
  • Goldtooth’s backstory revealed that he had seized a gold tooth from a merchant and ruled his tribe through strength and rewards for his underlings.
  • Aige considered using one of his remaining minion cards but decided that losing it before returning to Hall Farm would cost too much.
  • Goldtooth charged at Aige with a sharpened iron shovel, and Aige cast Frostbolt and Fireball at him.

Ch. 34Formidable Foe

Aige led his minions in a difficult fight against the rare Kobold leader Goldtooth, using taunts, careful positioning, and precise spells to keep the monster controlled. The Goldshire Footman died to protect Aige, while Goldtooth froze under Aige’s final barrage of magic.

  • Aige kept Goldtooth slowed with Frostbolt and Fireball while the Goldshire Footman used Taunt to draw the Kobold’s attacks away from him.
  • Aige ordered the Wisps to dodge Goldtooth’s Cleave and saved the Footman with his once-a-day Lesser Heal.
  • Aige’s precise attacks struck Goldtooth’s vital points as he managed the Footman’s stamina and held the Kobold’s aggro.
  • Aige drew Goldtooth toward himself with a burst of attacks, then used Frostbolt to slow him while retreating toward a wall.
  • The Goldshire Footman taunted Goldtooth one last time and was killed by the Kobold’s shovel, giving Aige time to attack.
  • Aige cast Fireball twice and then Fire Blast, leaving Goldtooth frozen.

Ch. 35The Name-Brand Eagle

Aige defeated Goldtooth and gained valuable loot, including a six-slot bag and the Linen Robe of the Eagle. He reached level nine and enchanted the robe with an additional point of intelligence, leaving only two portions of enchanting materials.

  • Aige used Frostbolt, Lesser Fireball, and a critical Fire Blast to kill Goldtooth after the boss slew the Goldshire Footman.

  • Aige reached level nine, strengthening his attributes and body as the power of law took effect.
  • Aige enchanted the Linen Robe of the Eagle with an additional point of intelligence, using up most of his remaining materials.

Ch. 36A surprise?

Aige defeated Big Goldtooth but lost the extra Boar card to the Hearthstone pack’s two-copy limit, then completed the necklace quest at Hall Farm and received Holy Smite. As he rested and considered the new spell, someone knocked at his door.

  • Aige discovered that Big Goldtooth’s Boar card was automatically disenchanted into five Arcane Dust because he already had two copies, and he regretted not using one in the fight.
  • Aige realized the Hearthstone pack’s card limits could cause much greater losses with rare cards and resolved to use duplicate cards before collecting more.
  • Aige returned the gold necklace to Mrs. Stonefield, who thanked him and gave him linen gloves and three silver coins.
  • The quest reward granted Aige the Priest spell card Holy Smite, and he considered how its two damage could help him defeat enemies.
  • Aige rested at Hall Farm and imagined future battles until footsteps approached and someone knocked at his door.

Ch. 37Love Letter

Shate asked Aige to deliver a love letter to Sally, and Sally asked Aige to help reconcile their families so she could be with Shate. Aige agreed to hear her out and learned she wanted to apologize to Aunt Hall in person.

  • Shate told Aige that he and Sally were in love despite their families' feud, then asked him to deliver a letter to her.
  • Aige accepted the delivery quest and traveled from Hall Farm to Beech Farm with pork pies for Kate and Sally.
  • Aige gave Sally Shate's letter and pork pies, and she asked him to help the two of them be together.

  • Aige used his Hearthstone to return to Goldshire and entered the security office despite the warnings outside.
  • Aige told Paul that he had cleared the mine of Kobolds, and Paul announced the news to the townspeople.
  • Aige received a Goldshire Footman card, improved Stormwind City reputation, a healing potion, a silver coin, and a Goldshire Defender badge.
  • Aige removed the badge to avoid attracting attention and noticed someone connected to the Darkmoon Faire.

Ch. 39ATM?

Aige sold Luxiu Kobold candles and gold dust, then accepted a delivery quest to Stormwind City. At the Lion's Pride Inn, he learned from a rogue how adventurer identity cards worked and discovered the rogue was struggling to make a living.

  • Aige sold Luxiu sixty-six Kobold candles and fifty-five portions of gold dust for two silver and thirty copper.
  • Luxiu hired Aige to deliver a package to Lok Wildhammer in Stormwind City within seven days for one silver coin.
  • Aige noticed a rogue using the mailbox outside the Lion's Pride Inn and bought him food and drink to learn how it worked.
  • The rogue explained that recognized combat professionals could register for identity cards used at mailboxes, banks, and auction houses, while commoners could not qualify for the cards.
  • The rogue complained about his unsuccessful auction and low income, and Aige suggested he learn leatherworking, making the rogue tear up.

Ch. 40Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid

Aige delivered Sally’s letter to Kodot Beech and agreed to gather Crystal Kelp so the alchemist could brew invisibility potions. After collecting the kelp from Murlocs, Aige considered whether the cheap herbs at Stormwind City’s auction house would make alchemy a worthwhile profession.

  • Aige heard a thief complain about the costs of leatherworking and the low prices of herbs, then learned Kodot Beech was staying in room 207.
  • Aige warned Kodot Beech about an imminent potion explosion, but the beaker blew up and injured the alchemist; Aige bandaged his head and gave him Sally’s letter.
  • Kodot Beech agreed to support Sally’s plan to resolve the feud between Hall and the Beech family, but said he needed six Crystal Kelp to brew potions for her, Aige, and himself.
  • Aige followed Kodot Beech’s directions and killed Murlocs one by one, collecting six bundles of Crystal Kelp, fish, clam shells, and a small pearl.
  • Aige weighed learning alchemy and decided to inspect Stormwind City’s auction house for cheap herbs before committing to the profession.

Ch. 41The Talent Tree

Aige delivered Keduote’s invisibility potions to Sally, completed her quest, and received the Worgen Infiltrator card. Reaching level ten made him a junior mage and unlocked the Talent Tree, with eight talents already active.

  • Keduote brewed the Minor Invisibility Potions, and Aige collected them for Sally’s quest.
  • Aige delivered the potions to Sally at Beech Farm, received her handwoven scarf, and completed the quest, earning the Worgen Infiltrator card.

  • Aige discovered that eight Arcane, Fire, and Frost talents were already active at their maximum ranks.

Ch. 42Shadow Word: Pain

After reaching level 10, Aige gained Frost Nova and received the Priest card Shadow Word: Pain, then traveled to Stormwind City to register as a combat professional. He entered the city and learned he should certify his mage status in the Mage Quarter, since he had no badge to show his rank.

  • Aige reviewed his mage abilities and received the Shadow Word: Pain card after completing the quest to increase his strength.
  • Aige stayed overnight at Beech Farm, ate breakfast with his hosts, then used his Hearthstone to return to the road.
  • Aige traveled northwest to Stormwind City and passed through its gates and checkpoints.
  • Aige told the guards that he was a junior mage from Northshire seeking a combat professional identity card.
  • Sergeant Raul saluted Aige and directed him to SI:7 in Old Town to register, advising him to certify his mage status in the Mage Quarter and obtain a badge.

Ch. 43Identity

Aige encountered prejudice in Stormwind City, then registered as a mage and received a purple combat-profession identity card. He planned to seek formal certification in the Mage Quarter and remembered to return to the Oak Tavern to pay for his meal.

  • Aige visited the Oak Tavern after receiving a coupon and was disappointed by the wine, then clashed with Viscount Xiqi's lackeys over a table.
  • Aige threatened Viscount Xiqi with a Fireball and drove him and his servants away, then reconsidered his status in Stormwind City.
  • Aige went to SI:7 and filled out a form to register for a combat-profession identity card.
  • Aige proved he was a mage by casting Fireball at a target, paid a silver coin, and received a purple identity card.
  • Aige learned the identity-card colors and their associated professions, then considered getting formal mage certification.

Ch. 44The Mage Quarter

Aige visited Stormwind City’s Mage Quarter and reflected on the differences between human and elven magic. After passing through a barrier and finding the district’s unusual buildings, he asked where to obtain mage certification.

  • Aige returned to the Oakwood Tavern, apologized to the owner, and paid the bill of 1 silver and 50 copper.
  • Aige passed the real estate office and headed to the Mage Quarter, hoping to buy property after earning his junior mage certification.
  • Aige crossed a barrier into the Mage Quarter and mistakenly assumed it kept ordinary people out; the barrier actually blocked noise and helped identify visitors.
  • Aige asked where he could get his mage certification and surveyed the district’s haphazard buildings and mage towers.
  • Aige considered the defenses, warning systems, research facilities, and optional offensive capabilities of mage towers.

Ch. 45Violet Academy

Aige found the Tower of Trials in Stormwind City's Mage Quarter and took the junior mage assessment. He defeated three Murloc illusions and earned the rank of Junior Mage.

  • Aige asked three fifth-year Violet Academy apprentices for directions to the junior mage assessment, and one showed him the way to the Tower of Trials.
  • Aige registered at the Tower of Trials and went to the second floor to meet an intermediate mage.
  • The intermediate mage explained that Aige had to defeat three low-level Murloc illusions and demonstrate a junior control spell.
  • Aige cast Frostbolt and Fireball against the Murlocs, then used Frost Nova to freeze them before finishing them off.
  • The intermediate mage congratulated Aige on successfully advancing to Junior Mage.

Ch. 46Letter of Recommendation

After earning a junior mage badge, Aige received Deke’s recommendation to study at Violet Academy for free. He explored Cathedral Square, then delivered goods to Lok Wildhammer, who befriended him over drinks and offered him another delivery job to Ironforge.

  • Deke praised Aige’s battle skills, recommended that he study at Violet Academy, and wrote him a letter of recommendation after accepting a healing bandage.
  • Aige visited Cathedral Square, saw the hospital’s ordinary first-aid bandages, and donated a silver coin to the orphanage.
  • Aige delivered goods to Lok Wildhammer and collected the promised silver coin, despite Lok complaining that Luxiu had tricked him again.
  • Aige gave Lok a Kobold pickaxe, and Lok invited him to drink dwarven ale in thanks.
  • Aige shared Milly’s homemade wine with Lok, and the two drank together as friends.
  • Lok asked Aige to deliver a shipment to his friend at The Great Forge in Ironforge.

Ch. 47The Auction House

After fleeing Stormwind’s unaffordable property market, Aige visited the auction house to check the prices and availability of herbs for his alchemy. He found common herbs were abundant and cheap, while rare herbs such as Icecap and Black Lotus were scarce and costly.

  • Aige pinned on his one-star mage badge, inspected Stormwind’s property prices, and left after learning that even modest homes cost hundreds of gold coins.
  • Aige decided the bank offered him little use because he already had Hero Space and deposits earned no interest.
  • Aige showed his combat professional identity card at the auction house and used a query machine to search its listings.
  • Aige found Silverleaf, Peacebloom, and Bruiseweed in plentiful supply at low prices.
  • Aige found fewer than 200 Icecap in stock and only seven Black Lotus listed, each priced at one gold coin.

Ch. 48The Alchemist

Aige chose alchemy after discovering that Minor Healing Potions sold for far more than their ingredients cost, then began making them in his inn room. He successfully followed the potion-making process despite distractions, but the chapter left the potion’s completion and result unresolved.

  • Aige learned alchemy and bought herbs and tools after seeing that Minor Healing Potions were scarce and expensive at auction.
  • Aige collected his purchases from the post office and returned to his inn room to begin brewing.
  • Aige ruined two batches while the noise from the neighboring room disrupted his work, then decided to grind the ingredients in stages.
  • Aige mixed and heated the medicinal powder, added water, and stirred the solution as it turned bloodred.
  • Aige learned that advanced alchemy depended heavily on precise heat control, a skill that made fire mages valuable allies to alchemists.

Ch. 49A Commoner's Legend

Aige mastered alchemy’s most difficult requirement, heat control, by using his magical flames, then made eighteen perfect Minor Healing Potions. He listed ten at the Stormwind City auction house and prepared to return to Northshire to see Milly.

  • Aige learned that Aifeila had been unable to advance beyond advanced alchemy because he lacked the heat control, lifespan, and magic needed for master-level work.
  • Aige used his fire magic to control the heat while making potions, completing eighteen Minor Healing Potions overnight after wasting two portions.
  • Aige finished his Stormwind City errands and decided to return to Northshire to visit Milly after selling some potions for funds.
  • Aige checked auction prices and listed ten perfect-grade Minor Healing Potions together for 150 silver coins.
  • Aige kept his identity confidential on the auction listing, which displayed only the last four digits of his identity card number, 9527.

Ch. 50An Unexpected Encounter

Aige spotted his mortal enemy Carl visiting Milly's Grape Estate and learned that Carl had left after discovering Milly was already involved with someone. Convinced that Carl threatened his relationship with Milly, Aige followed her carriage and decided to kill her.
