Background / History
Sheng Chi spent six years training at SPC, a prominent South Korean entertainment company. At eighteen, he was promised a chance to debut at twenty if he worked hard. He subsequently practiced sixteen to eighteen hours a day, enduring exclusion and fierce competition. Despite finally earning a debut opportunity, he was forced to return to China when SPC dismissed its Chinese trainees 2 3 15.
After returning, a friend introduced him to a small company that rushed him into a debut. Half a month later, the company absconded with its funding, abandoning its trainees and leaving Sheng Chi a free agent. The experience made him wary of joining another small agency 2.
He nevertheless chose Leap Entertainment because Fei Yue’s commitment to stage performance appealed to him. Fei Yue offered him the opportunity to compete for captain and center and help train the existing trainees. His sudden arrival prompted suspicions of preferential treatment, which Sheng Chi answered by promising to prove his ability 2.
Appearance
- Facial features: Sharp contours, finely sculpted features, and an aloof expression; Gu Zhijing initially considers him attractive enough to debut immediately 1.
- Eyes: Dark and deep-set in expression, frequently contributing to his intimidating presence 18 32.
- Build: Nearly 187 cm tall, with defined waist and abdominal muscles visible during his opening dance for “Tonight” 18 28.
- “Tonight” styling: Dark-blue streaks in his hair and a thin, low-cut black shirt, contrasting with his restrained offstage demeanor 27.
- CMJ red-carpet styling: Slicked-back hair and a suit that emphasize his bone structure and give him a commanding appearance 40.
Personality
Sheng Chi is reserved, disciplined, and usually difficult to provoke. Having experienced repeated rejection and exclusion, he initially meets Qi Wang’s insults with composure. He is less comfortable expressing affection: even his attempts to reassure Gu Zhijing can feel deliberate or awkward. With people he trusts, however, he becomes teasing, physically affectionate, and unexpectedly fluent in flirtation 3 9 12 45 46.
He treats the stage as a serious commitment rather than a disposable opportunity. Gu Zhijing’s deliberate failure in an evaluation upsets him more than insults directed at himself. His professional standards also extend to fan relationships: he condemns private contact with fans and initially regards dating as incompatible with an idol’s responsibilities 4 10 13.
His loyalty can override his usual restraint. He attacks Qi Wang after hearing a homophobic rumor about Gu Zhijing and later refuses to sign for a fan who deliberately skips his teammate. He is similarly stubborn about work, initially treating injury and exhaustion as normal costs of the profession. His hospitalization becomes a turning point when he agrees to let his teammates share the burden 10 12 34 50.
