In the main group chat.
Stepmother Literature: Dobby really is a character with a lot of personality lol
Stepmother Literature: Although the Malfoy family considers him a traitor (helpless sigh.jpg)
Bug Ming: But Dobby is pretty pitiful too... even if the way he protected Harry early on was a bit much.
Snape Uses Rejoice to Wash His Hair: But I still love that part later on when Dobby says he has no master qwq
Wants to Make Friends: Dobby... what kind of person is he?
Harry slowly typed out a line and hit send.
Ced's fans, who knew who they were, suddenly perked up. As mentioned before, HP fans came from all walks of life, with talented people in every field.
They had therefore speculated about who was behind each username in the group. Based on their analysis and his usual messages, Wants to Make Friends was very likely Harry himself.
Kerun: Huh? Dobby... I suppose he counts as a House-elf.
Red-Lipped, White-Toothed Chosen One: ? Why the sudden question?
Ced Is Mine: Maybe he just finished the first season. Dobby's a character from the second season, after all.
Wants to Make Friends: Ah, yeah.
Afgh: Dobby is a free elf qwq, although early on he intercepted all of Harry's letters, closed the station entrance, and used a Bludger to hit Harry...
Afgh: But later he really did help Harry and the others through life-and-death situations (shedding tears.jpg)
One Mrs. Malfoy: So a lot of people have different opinions about Dobby.
Bug Ming: A character can't possibly be liked by everyone, after all.
Damn Muggle: ? Dobby
Cabbage Foot-Soaking Water: That said... whenever Dobby and the Bludger come up, I think of the young master...
Passing 24k Pure Gold Little Snake: "Training for the ballet, Potter?" Hahahahaha!
No Longer Human_: The Golden Snitch was right next to his head, but he still kept up his dedicated mocking of Harry.
Damn Muggle: ???
Bug Ming: Thanks, now I remember it again. It really was funny.
[Admin] Yan: Lol, speaking of which, how did Bug Ming's appeal go?
Bug Ming: Don't mention it... I need to do it on a computer, but the power's out at my place... hahaha (hugging myself in sympathy.jpg)
Kerun: Great Bug really lives up to the name... speaking of which, why are you called Bug Ming?
Bug Ming: Hahaha... that's a long story... (wry smile.jpg)
The conversation seemed to have gone off on a tangent again. Reading what they said about Dobby, Harry seemed to understand why neither his letters nor Ron's had received a reply.
But he was so glad... glad he had received this phone. Otherwise, he might have grown anxious at being unable to contact his friends...
Dobby probably hadn't expected something like this to happen either.
But Draco, on the other side of the screen, had once again had his worldview shaken.
Dobby??? His family's House-elf???
Had gone to help Harry Potter!!!!
As Draco read the messages, his incredulous inner voice nearly cracked. Sitting in his room, he felt as though there were a tangled ball of yarn in his head that he couldn't unravel.
He didn't know whether he should tell his father. If he did, the secret that he owned this magical phone would be exposed, and his father would find out he had kept it hidden... but if he didn't, did what that House-elf Dobby had done count as betrayal?!
How dare Dobby betray the Malfoy family!?
Draco jumped to his feet. He wanted to summon Dobby and question him.
Just before he grasped the doorknob to open the door, Draco hesitated. He returned to his desk and sat down again. After turning on his phone, he looked back at the messages that had already been pushed up the chat.
Why on earth did that fellow Dobby go and help Potter? The question lodged in Draco's throat like a needle. Frowning, he scrolled through the messages.
The way Dobby usually behaved, he didn't look like he had the nerve to betray the Malfoy family at all. How dare he? And with Potter, of all people!?
Draco found Harry increasingly annoying these days. So what if he was the Chosen One!
When Draco saw that Dobby, despite wanting to help Harry early on, had instead been wildly making things worse, the young master laughed out loud.
"Ha! Since he was causing trouble for Potter, I'll let him off for now. See how you like it, Potter!"
From the moment he accepted the phone, Draco Malfoy had begun to change in ways even he hadn't noticed.
Draco put down his phone and picked up a book on Transfiguration again. He refused to believe that, with a Malfoy's intelligence and talent, he couldn't surpass Granger in his studies!
Ron felt very empty. Fred and George wouldn't share their phone with him and flatly refused to lend it to him. Even when Ron said he'd tell Mum, Fred and George smiled and said, "You can try. See who ends up worse off."
Ron: You win.
So Ron could only rack his brains for a suitable reason to get Mum to give his phone back. He was just like me as a child, when my phone was confiscated and I tried to sneak it back, only to fail.
It was a very thrilling feeling.
Ginny wanted one badly too, but she was too embarrassed to ask her brothers for theirs, so she could only hope she would receive an identical phone when school started.
Aside from that, Harry was probably what interested Ginny most. Ever since Ron and the others came back, she had often pestered them with questions about him, a little fangirl through and through.
Who knew whether Ginny would faint with excitement when she found out she would one day marry Harry?
Whether Harry would be excited was another question, but those hidden sister-cons at the Weasley house would probably get excited.
Who Doesn't Love the Twins: No matter how I look at it, the Weasley family are such angels!
I Love Sandwich Biscuit: The twins and Ron went straight off in their dad's illegal car (? to rescue Harry. I can't praise that friendship enough!
Magpie: The illegal car... didn't it later become a major legend in the Forbidden Forest?
[Admin] Holy Crap: Uncle Arthur had it rough.
Bug Ming: But the Weasley family atmosphere is so lovely... they're poor, but they're really happy.
Guan Xiaohuan: I'm really envious.
Oh My Mother: (Ron-style crying cat meme.jpg) Parents like Molly and Arthur are wonderful!
Mo Ming Qi Miao Loves the Inexplicable: But Aunt Molly's double standards are hilarious lol
Kerun: To Ron: Keep it up and I'll nail your window shut too. To Harry: You must be hungry, have some more.
Andrea of Persia: Come to think of it, wasn't Fred only fourteen in the second season? He'd already learned to drive a flying car?
Bug Ming: Yeah...
Proprietress Number Two: Is it possible they learned while they were flying?
Oh My Mother: ? Now I can picture George asking Fred if he knows how to drive, and Fred answering that he'll know once he starts.
Magpie: Ron, riding in a flying car for the first time: ?
Ling Kaluoer: I'm dying laughing, help.
Oh My Mother: I can picture it so clearly. I'm going to draw it!
Stepmother Literature: Teacher Oh... as efficient as ever.
At that moment, Fred and George, with the light of two phones shining in the darkness before them, looked out the window.
Dad really had gotten hold of a Muggle car from somewhere.
Drive that car to rescue Harry?
Cool!!!
The next morning, both twins had faint dark circles under their eyes.
Ron, on the other hand, had slept quite well.
At noon, after he'd finished eating and Mum had sent him outside to weed the lawn, Ron suddenly received a letter from Hermione.
After watching the owl fly away, Ron opened the letter. Hermione had written the exact same sentence three times at the beginning: Ron! Whatever you find out next, stay calm.
Ron pursed his lips. What else could make him lose his composure?
Then he read on.
Hermione had written that Scabbers was Peter Pettigrew in disguise, that the supposed murderer Sirius had been falsely accused and was also Harry's godfather. She had also mentioned Dobby, since she thought Ron, coming from a wizarding family, would surely know more about House-elves than they did in her Muggle family.
Hermione had even added that all this came from the phone, making it much more credible.
After reading it, Ron's head was in a muddle.
There was so much information that he didn't know which part to process first.
Sirius Black? Was Harry's godfather? His pet rat? Was a transformed human??
What had he missed while his phone was confiscated? Why did it suddenly feel as if he'd traveled through time and space??
Ron's mind was a mess, like a television screen full of static that made him dizzy at a glance.
"Ron! What are you doing out there? Have you finished weeding?" Molly stood at the kitchen window and called out when she saw Ron standing there motionless.
Only then did Ron recover from his shock and answer his mother. Then he walked back with very stiff movements.
At the thought that Scabbers was still shut in his cage in his room, Ron suddenly felt a little afraid to go back and face him. His rat had suddenly turned out to be a criminal. Great, he probably wouldn't be able to sleep tonight.
Harry only dared go to sleep after hiding his phone. Dobby, meanwhile, still couldn't understand why Harry hadn't given up on Hogwarts even though he wasn't receiving his friends' letters. Harry Potter would face great danger this year.
Dobby couldn't let Harry Potter return to Hogwarts.
Dobby thought determinedly. In his eyes, Harry was the Chosen One, a great figure renowned among House-elves. But Dobby didn't understand why Harry Potter had written so few letters to his friends after returning home.
Unaware of the phone's existence, Dobby thought Harry Potter no longer liked his friends and that was why he rarely wrote to them. Dobby was very happy, but at the same time, his guilt over defying the Malfoy family caused him great pain.
He could only punish himself for it. At Malfoy Manor, he was often severely punished when he did something wrong, to say nothing of the vicious words. Just as in the original story, he had grown used to threats.
That was all the more reason for him to protect Harry Potter.
He did find it a little strange, though, that Young Master Malfoy's attitude toward him had changed somewhat lately.
But those changes wouldn't affect his resolve.
"Dobby can't let Mr. Harry Potter return to Hogwarts..."
The holidays passed quickly.
Luo Xingming: Why does summer homework exist? Isn't summer vacation supposed to be for getting proper rest?
Mrs. Malfoy Number Two: Agreed, so I spent the whole summer playing.
Golden Snitch in Harry's Mouth: Hehe, I went to the HP theme park! I even bought a wand! Aside from being a little expensive, it was so much fun!
Kerun: I'm jealous! My family wouldn't let me go out after the last comic convention, haha qwq
Proprietress Number Two: Because of exams at the start of school... I've been shut up at home lately and can only study (falls over and gives up the ghost.jpg)
Stepmother Literature: Hahahahaha, the Hogwarts house uniform I ordered finally arrived!!!
[Admin] !: ! People's joys and sorrows aren't shared QAQ
[Admin] !: Why am I busy as a dog every day even though it's vacation?
Spectrespecs Matching Luna's: It feels no different from being at school... there's even more to keep me busy.
Magpie: I'm lost at home, with no goal in life...
Hermione's Hair: Hermione is my goal in life, but that seems a little difficult...
Hermione-Brand Encyclopedia: Bro, that's way too difficult. Keep it up, become prime minister like Hermione became Minister for Magic!
Alice Gwenpalin: I want a brain like Hermione's.
I'm the Twins' Dog: I want a car that can fly and turn invisible...
Proprietress Number Two: I want the twins.
Stepmother Literature: I want the Malfoy family.
I! Tom! Simp!: I want that Braised Egg.
[Admin] Yan: ? Wait, this is getting more and more out of hand!
My Younger Brother Isn't as Handsome as Me: My brother and I got caught taking a friend home. How do we get a lighter beating? Waiting online, pretty urgent.
Bug Ming: ?
Oh My Mother: ? "Taking"
James-Brand Shampoo: ? Why are everyone's lives in this group so colorful?
James-Brand Shampoo: (old man on the subway looking at his phone.jpg)
Ced Is Mine: Do your parents have double standards? If they do, just get your friend to plead for you (thumbs-up.jpg)
My Younger Brother Isn't as Handsome as Me: Good point.
Dobby was actually a pitiful person. The beatings and scolding from the master he served, the Malfoy family's own background, and all sorts of environmental factors had caused a personality flaw that wasn't unique to Dobby but was shared by House-elves: an extreme people-pleasing personality. I don't know if my analysis is right, though.
So Dobby really did dare to stand up and help Harry Potter, even if he caused trouble and even acted in ways people found annoying... but he dared to think boldly. He was one of the few elves who wanted and longed for freedom. He even wanted wages for his work, however little. Maybe Dobby just wanted respect.
But thoughts like that made him an odd one out, because House-elves existed from beginning to end to serve others. Many children from wizarding families also thought that was only natural, and no one thought anything was wrong with it.
I think Dobby was like the one person who woke up among a crowd for whom oppression had become the norm.
Some people also find Dobby irritating and annoying. Honestly, everyone has some annoying qualities. Even James and Sirius had parts of their past that were unpleasant, such as when they bullied others.
I can't manage to portray every character's strengths and flaws in comprehensive detail either. I can only do my best.
I'm only saying this because I hope everyone can read the story without prejudice. Some characters really are more controversial than others.
Some people may think what I've said is wrong too. It only represents my personal opinion, so just take a look.
Good night, dears~
