Background / History

Firefly was born in an incubation pod as part of Glamour Star’s Molten Knight program. Raised inside a sealed Research Institute, she was treated as an experimental subject rather than a child and was told that her sole purpose was to pilot a Molten Knight against the Locust Plague. She was also born with Entropy Loss Syndrome, an incurable condition expected to make her rapidly age and die. 65 75 76

During her confinement, Firefly had virtually no contact with children her own age and was allotted only a weekly half-hour outside the institute. She met the injured young Bai Heng during one such break, offered him her weekly cupcake, and asked him to be her friend. 74 75 They began meeting weekly: Firefly secretly lent him books from the institute, while Bai Heng told her stories of the outside world. 75

At age six, Firefly escaped with Bai Heng to Samoa-do’s Snow Cotton Festival. It was her first festival and her first direct experience of the wider world. That night, she explained her origins and illness; the two made a promise to save the world together. 76

Firefly later served three years as a Molten Knight pilot, fighting across Glamour Star against the Locust Plague. She was eventually removed from combat and returned to Ember Ash headquarters as a research subject because her Entropy Loss Syndrome had progressed severely. 80 Bai Heng, reunited with her after twelve years apart, began personally overseeing her treatment and developed an Entropy-Increasing Compound Reagent that stabilized her condition, though she still required two injections a day. 80 82

When Bai Heng was imprisoned over the “Locust Blood” incident, Firefly continued visiting him daily and bringing him meals despite Ember Ash terminating their collaboration. 85 Ember Ash later exploited her in the Locust Blood Operation, deploying her in dangerous combat despite her deteriorating health in an attempt to provoke Bai Heng. 86

A year later, Firefly piloted Sam during the battle for Muir Town. Despite exhaustion, severe pain, and a failed rescue operation, she chose to hold the line against the Insectoid Spawn to protect the town’s survivors. 88 89

After Bai Heng later left Sam at a cemetery, Firefly appeared in his final dream before awakening from a silver coffin on Glamour Star in a new body. 95 96

By the Penacony arc, Firefly operates with the Stellaron Hunters and is identified as an Iris Family Memokeeper. Pursued by the Hound Family as a stowaway, she uses Sam to escape through Penacony’s dreamscape. 204 222
