Background / History

Rebirth and the Stone Gate

Li Qingshan’s previous life ended when a truck struck him on his way home from overtime work. Reborn as the son of engineer Li Guoqiang and mathematics teacher Su Wan, he initially retained only a sense that something was missing from the world. From childhood, he perceived nature as dormant and depleted, leading him to search scientific works and ancient texts for an explanation 1.

On the eve of his fifteenth birthday, an encounter with a mysterious stone gate restored his previous-life memories. His subsequent travels exposed him to mental cultivation and historical records connected to Dragon Snake Romance, including the unfamiliar martial legend “Shura Qing” 1 2.

Martial Training and the Shura Reputation

In the Dragon and Snake World, Li Qingshan sought genuine Guoshu instruction rather than commercial demonstrations. Tang Zichen guided him for six months, helping him grasp internal martial arts. In gratitude, he offered her his method of mental cultivation before their separation 7 8 11.

After becoming involved in Cao Yi’s raid on drug smugglers, he declined a police combat-instructor position. He then traveled to Jinmen, defeated ten schools using their own specialties, and reached Transformation Jin. The local masters chose friendship over hostility, turning his challenges into exchanges of martial knowledge 12 14 15.

His later campaign targeted telecom-fraud compounds and the forces protecting them. The resulting bloodshed made “Shura Qing” notorious internationally. Despite that reputation, he returned to ordinary martial practice and reunited with Tang Zichen, becoming Wang Chao’s senior brother and occasional instructor before the Stone Gate summoned him home 18 25 27.

Earth Cultivation and Departure for Big Dipper

Back on Earth, Li Qingshan developed the Divine Seed and pursued the hidden potential of the human body. With Xiaobai’s help, he discovered a sword-control inheritance and obtained the Sun True Scripture. He rapidly completed the Sea of Bitterness and Dao Palace paths, then continued through Four Extremes and Dragon Transformation 30 36 37 39 40 55 59.

He also taught the young people who would later reach Big Dipper, including Ye Fan and his classmates. After two years in Jiangcheng, he left to seek conditions capable of supporting advancement beyond Dragon Transformation’s Fifth Layer. He entrusted his parents’ safety to Xiaobai and promised to return in a little over twenty years 32 72 77.

Big Dipper and Jade Pool

After reaching Big Dipper, Li Qingshan stayed temporarily at Spirit Ruins Paradise before departing to seek his own Dao. He found Jiang Tingting, recognized that her dormant Taiyin origin was consuming her life, and offered to take her as his disciple 77 82 84.

In Purple Mountain, Jiang Taixu taught him the complete Battle Saint Method. Li Qingshan’s first rescue attempt failed against the seal’s Great Emperor-level markings, but he later returned and freed the God King in repayment for that instruction 100 103.

Jade Pool accepted him as its Holy Son and granted him Qingwei Blessed Land. When his attempt to combine Taiyin and Taiyang proved unworkable without Great Emperor authority, the Queen Mother of the West gave him the complete Western Emperor Scripture. He rebuilt his cultivation rather than force the incompatible origins together 117 118 119.

Divine Tomb World and Demonic Tribulation

The Divine Tomb World initially rejected Li Qingshan’s foreign cultivation. Through discussions with Chen Zhan, he learned to adapt to its laws, form an Inner World, and devise the Eight-Nine Profound Art. His first Demonic Embryo nearly dissolved his entire existence 140 141 142 143.

After Chen Zhan’s departure, battle drove the Demonic Embryo deeper into him. Under demonic impulses, he rampaged east across the Western Heaven Realm, destroyed Divine Race factions, and devoured opponents’ power. These events established his reputation as the “Great Demon” 148 149 210.

Following prolonged demonic tribulation, he awakened and advanced to Immortal Two Ninth Heaven. He later healed Yu Xin and spent nearly three years refining a safer Eight-Nine Profound Art, which he taught her. His subsequent search for the Primordial Great Demon’s sealed remains brought him into conflict with the Destruction Sect and Nine Heavens Sacred Land 172 182 188.

Purple Mountain Inheritance and the Eastern Exalt

Li Qingshan protected Ye Fan and Yan Ruyu’s faction, overpowering the Peacock King and Azure Flood Dragon King when they mistook him for Yan Ruyu’s captor. He nevertheless warned his students not to become dependent on his protection 227 230 232.

After receiving Great Emperor Wushi’s inheritance, he gained mastery of the Beginningless Bell and became Purple Mountain’s new master. Gu Tianshu pledged to guard his Dao. Li Qingshan subsequently survived his Dao-Severing tribulation, established Yuanshi Dao, and rallied other factions against the assassin organizations Hell and Human World 258 277 288.

His later actions included exploring Saint Cliff, subduing a Three-Legged Golden Crow, confronting the Ruthless One Lineage, and defending Ye Fan at the Yaochi Grand Gathering. He also entered the Blood Moon Clan’s ancestral land and killed six Ancestor Kings and its Saint King, the Blood Moon King 303 311 312 320 332.

Sainthood and the Yang God World

Li Qingshan’s Saint tribulation included battles against an older echo of himself, youthful Great Emperor imprints, and a lightning-formed Mythological Era battlefield. He reached the deserted Central Heavenly Palace but could not resolve the identity or meaning of the familiar figure he glimpsed there. Completing the tribulation brought him to Saint Fifth Heaven 348 349.

In the Yang God World, he obtained the Great Zen Temple’s Universe Bag and studied local scriptures, spirits, and cosmological laws. After examining the Tathagata Kasaya, he formed a preliminary Primordial Cause Dao Fruit. He chose not to intervene in Hong Yi’s approaching political struggles and prepared to depart 368 378 379.

Appearance

  • Build and features: Slender as a teenager; later upright and well-proportioned, retaining the handsome appearance of a young man around twenty 1 172.
  • Eyes: Bright, clear, and unusually deep from early cultivation; after his demonic tribulation, fleeting visions of chaos, stars, and world creation appear within them 4 172.
  • Hair: Black, worn streaming behind him in later appearances 329.
  • Clothing: Wears a gray tracksuit during his Jinmen journey, a purple robe at his Jade Pool audience, and black robes in many later appearances 14 117 132.
  • Bearing: His affinity with the Dao gives him a tranquil, transcendent presence that observers compare to an incarnation of the Dao itself 111 296.

Personality

Li Qingshan approaches cultivation as an investigation. His childhood search spans science, medicine, ancient texts, and mythology; later, he compares different worlds’ systems rather than treating any one inheritance as unquestionable. He can abandon an unsuitable approach and rebuild his foundation when a deeper understanding demands it 1 3 119 141.

His calm manner coexists with ruthless violence. He deliberately targets criminal networks, kills decisively in battle, and retaliates overwhelmingly against threats. Demonic corruption exposes a more dangerous loss of restraint, driving him through slaughter and devouring rather than his usual measured judgment 18 21 148 149.

He repays instruction, values promises, and protects those under his care. He offers Tang Zichen a complementary cultivation method, rescues Jiang Taixu out of gratitude, and honors his offer of shelter to Yan Ruyu’s faction. As a teacher, however, he insists that protection and opportunities cannot replace a disciple’s own will and effort 11 103 232 263.

Abilities & Skills

Mental Cultivation and Perception

His Crystal Visualization Method establishes the inward awareness underpinning his early progress 3.

  • Observes breathing, circulation, heartbeat, and cellular metabolism with exceptional precision 3.
  • Detects flaws in martial artists’ force coordination and rapidly understands the intent behind techniques 7 8.
  • Later uses divine sense to inspect libraries, reconstruct historical information, and perceive others’ mental reactions 77 186 356.

Guoshu and Martial Integration

Li Qingshan builds his martial system by learning during actual exchanges and combining different schools’ principles 15.

  • Uses Baguazhang, Xingyi Fist, Taijiquan, Bajiquan, and techniques learned from other Jinmen schools 10 15.
  • Defeats masters using the martial arts in which they specialize 15.
  • Integrates Guoshu footwork and striking with solar secret arts, divine power, and Dao laws 37 49 214.

  • Uses heart fire to temper divine power and burn impurities, and lung-metal power to generate Geng Metal Sword Qi 40 46.
  • Develops five elemental Departed Selves and forms a Dao Self during recultivation 119.
  • Advances his phenomenon into Myriad Selves as One, Illuminating the Heavens, Dao Resonance Returning to the Origin 119.

Eight-Nine Profound Art

His self-created art combines principles from different cultivation worlds to temper a will capable of surviving destruction 143 182.

  • Its original design proceeds through Demonic Embryo, Divine Embryo, and reincarnation cycles 143.
  • Its ultimate ambition is return through will alone, even after complete destruction; this is a stated goal, not a confirmed achievement 143.
  • The refined version integrates the Western Emperor Scripture, Demon Summoning Scripture, Supreme Forgetfulness Record, and his existing art 182.
  • Its early form risks Dao dissolution and the loss of identity to demonic instincts 143 149.

Nine Secrets

  • Bing: Used at full strength during his Saint tribulation’s mirrored battle 348.

  • Jie: Combined with the Divine Forbidden Domain to achieve temporary Saint King-level battle strength 311.
  • Movement secret art: Used for rapid travel to Heaven-Absolving Mountain 368.

Divine Forbidden Domain

This state releases restrictions on his combat strength, allowing him to fight far above his ordinary level 146 311.

  • In the Divine Tomb World, resonance between his Secret Realm cultivation and profound art raises his temporary combat strength to late God Emperor level, approaching its peak 146.
  • His initial successful use of Jie takes seventy-two circulations and sustains Saint King-level strength for several breaths 311.
  • These are combat enhancements, distinct from permanent realm advancement 146 311.

Yuanshi Dao and Seals

Li Qingshan establishes his own Dao by severing dependence on others’ Dao, his existing methods, and the myriad Dao 277.

  • Completes six seals during his Dao-Severing tribulation: Wuji, Four Symbols, Void, Yin-Yang, Heaven-Overturning, and Heaven-Opening 277.
  • Tempers the Seven Seals of Yuanshi with ancient Dao inheritances after becoming a Saint 349.
  • Forms a preliminary Primordial Cause Dao Fruit and considers it a foundation for the unfinished Dao Yi Seal 379.

  • Light-Splitting Shadow-Manifesting Sword Control Technique: Combines divine-sense sword control, sword-intent cultivation, and misleading afterimages 36 48.
  • Source Heaven arts: Reads terrain and earth veins, predicts escape routes, and places obstacles through dragon Qi 133.
  • Five-Colored Divine Light: Destroys the Destruction Sect’s Ten Thousand Demons God-Slaying Grand Formation 214.
  • Nirvana power: Heals the Dao wounds suffered in a major battle 135.
