Background / History
Departure from Ziwei Holy Land
Ji Chenkong was originally an outer disciple of Ziwei Holy Land. Unable to reach the Nascent Soul Realm before its prescribed age limit, he left to venture out independently. Although he achieved the breakthrough the following year and eventually surpassed peers who had qualified on time, he continued to regret losing his place in the sect 10 20.
After leaving, he founded the Flowing Moon Dynasty and met Chen Qingqian. Their daughter, Ji Zining, was born with severed meridians and was expected to die on her sixteenth birthday. Ji Chenkong blamed himself and his wife for her condition and wanted to make up for what she had been denied 3 10 31.
Ji Zining’s Revival and First Cultivation
When Ji Zining returned from the dead, Ji Chenkong recognized her awakening Exquisite Immortal Physique from an ancient text he had read at Ziwei Holy Land. Its identifying signs included descending immortal spirit Qi and one hundred and eight phenomena 2.
After she chose to cultivate, he transmitted the Flowing Moon Heart Sutra to her and supplied Spirit Stones during her first session. Her immediate comprehension and rapid ascent to the peak of Foundation Establishment astonished him. He admitted that her talent had already exceeded his ability to guide her 3 4.
He then confronted the experts attracted to the palace by the awakening phenomenon. Using his peak Nascent Soul pressure, he forced them to kneel, explained that his daughter had recovered and awakened a physique, and dismissed them with a warning against further intrusion 6.
Return as a Guest Elder
Believing the dynasty could not provide enough scope for Ji Zining’s talent, Ji Chenkong encouraged her to attend Ziwei Holy Land’s recruitment ceremony and accompanied her on Xiao Jiu. During the journey, he attributed her unfamiliar cultivation technique and new physical strength to an inheritance associated with her physique, and warned her to keep her abilities secret 10 11 12.
After Ji Zining became the Holy Land’s Divine Son, Li Changsheng and Hua Qianyan invited Ji Chenkong inside to discuss her family’s safety. Hua Qianyan promised to abolish the age rule responsible for his departure, and Ji Chenkong accepted an appointment as an outer guest elder. He openly acknowledged that the opportunity came through his daughter and pledged not to disappoint them 17 19 20.
Li Changsheng’s Dao Comprehension Tea enabled him to overcome his cultivation bottleneck and comprehend Fist Intent. He subsequently passed his Spirit Transformation tribulation without using Hua Qianyan’s protective treasures. Li Changsheng praised that achievement and judged that his future cultivation could extend beyond Spirit Transformation 21 25 27 31.
Return to the Dynasty
Despite the exceptional cultivation conditions at Ji Zining’s Divine Son Hall, Ji Chenkong chose to return home to govern the dynasty and reunite with Chen Qingqian. Before leaving, he accepted five million supreme-grade spirit stones from his daughter for his cultivation and the dynasty’s needs 30 31.
He waited for Xiao Jiu to awaken from absorbing a Saint Realm Golden-Winged Peng demon core, using the interval to stabilize his own breakthrough. Once the griffin woke, Ji Chenkong departed with him, asking Ji Zining to be careful during the visiting prodigies’ challenges and to visit her parents when she could 32 33.
Appearance
- Build and bearing: Described as a dignified middle-aged man 2.
- Royal attire: Wears imperial robes while presiding over the palace hall from a dragon throne 6.
Personality
Ji Chenkong is affectionate toward his family and respects his daughter’s wishes. After her recovery, he offers to arrange whatever future she wants; later, he supports her departure for Ziwei Holy Land despite feeling guilty about sending her away so soon. His concern shifts from protecting her directly to ensuring that he and the dynasty do not become burdens on her 3 9 10 26.
As a ruler, he is forceful and territorial. He considers strength—not ceremonial language—the basis of authority, and refuses to let visiting experts question his control over the palace. Nevertheless, palace servants regard their usual treatment under him as good 4 6 9.
His private behavior is less imposing. He teases Chen Qingqian about Ji Zining surpassing her, jokes with his daughter, and becomes comically overwhelmed by her repeated breakthroughs. Even when those breakthroughs interrupt his cultivation, he chooses not to disturb her 9 11.
His decision to leave the Divine Son Hall’s superior cultivation environment demonstrates his sense of responsibility: governing the dynasty and returning to his wife take precedence over staying for personal advancement 30.
