Background / History

Ling Clan and Shrek Academy

Ling Luochеn entered Shrek Academy to escape her clan’s arrangements, become stronger, and gain control over her own future. Although regarded as an outstanding talent of the Ling Clan’s younger generation, she had little experience with its internal scheming. She remained conscious that her conduct reflected on both Shrek Academy and her ancestor, Ice Ling Douluo 13.

An eruption of Ma Xiaotao’s Evil Fire cost her three months of cultivation. Shrek’s response—smoothing over the incident and providing a few cultivation pills—left her resentful of its favoritism toward Ma Xiaotao. She used a request for assistance from the Ling Clan’s Xiaoshan City branch as an opportunity to leave the academy and distance herself from Ma Xiaotao 13.

Conflict with the Xiao Clan

The branch patriarch claimed that the Xiao Clan was suppressing their businesses, concealing his own side’s attempt to seize the Xiao Clan’s interests. Ling Luochеn distrusted his account but agreed to investigate personally 13.

At the Xiao Clan, residual Evil Fire aggravated her temper, while Xiao Yan’s insults further provoked her. Abandoning her original insistence on finding the truth, she challenged him and promised to stop interfering in the feud if he won. Xiao Yan escalated the challenge into a contest of life and death 14.

Despite her higher cultivation and use of Ring Fusion, Xiao Yan defeated her in three moves over only a few dozen breaths. His Bone Spirit Cold Flame countered her ice techniques, and his ruler shattered her staff and armor. Her final ice trap caught an Ultimate Ice substitute, allowing him to approach again and force her surrender. He spared her but declared that her life belonged to him 15.

Settlement and Cooperation

After investigating the dispute, Ling Luochеn confirmed that the branch was at fault. She dismissed its patriarch and offered the Xiao Clan one million Gold Soul Coins in compensation. To settle her personal defeat, she accepted Xiao Yan’s request to guide Xiao Xiao for three years, teaching for approximately half of each year while maintaining her own cultivation and academy obligations 16.

Xiao Yan subsequently offered to help improve her Martial Soul rather than take three years of her time without compensation. She agreed to try his proposed treatment, which offered a chance of reaching Ultimate Ice but carried no guarantee of success. His later experiments produced some improvement 17 19.

In return, Ling Luochеn used her clan’s connections to help arrange Xiao Yan’s exchange-student identification for the Sun Moon Empire’s Royal Academy. By the time he received the documents, she had already returned to Shrek Academy half a month earlier 19.

Personality

Ling Luochеn values independence and strength, seeing cultivation as a means of controlling her own fate. She is suspicious of attempts to manipulate her and initially intends to punish the Ling Clan branch if it has been bullying others. Nevertheless, pride and anger can override her judgment: when Xiao Yan provokes her, she openly sets aside the truth of the dispute in favor of settling it through force 13 14.

Her composure in battle is stronger than her temper outside it. She quickly recovers when her techniques fail and continues responding under pressure, even attempting a final trap after suffering serious injuries. Once defeated, she is too proud to break her word and later takes decisive responsibility for the branch’s wrongdoing 15 16.

Though outwardly cold—even toward Yan Shaozhe—she treats Xiao Yan with greater respect after losing to him. She also makes important decisions without prolonged hesitation, agreeing to his uncertain Martial Soul treatment once convinced it is worth attempting 16 17.

Ice-Element Martial Soul

Her Martial Soul grants powerful ice control and is described as only slightly inferior to Ultimate Ice before Xiao Yan’s treatment 13.

Ice Radiance Ring

Her fifth Soul Skill creates a large ring surrounding its target and releases streams of freezing energy 15.

• Restricts escape within its effective range.
• Uses melting snowflakes to drain the target’s Soul Power, eventually freezing them into an ice sculpture.
• Is broken open by Xiao Yan’s Bone Spirit Cold Flame and ruler attack 15.

Ring Fusion: Ice Radiance Battle Armor

A secret technique learned at Shrek Academy, Ring Fusion allows her to combine her second and fifth Soul Skills into Ice Radiance Battle Armor. At the time of her duel, her mastery is described as thirty percent 15.

• Incorporates Ice Radiance Ring’s dark-blue patterns into her ice armor.
• Continuously releases extreme-cold pulses within three meters.
• Produces power far beyond the Soul King level.
• Allows shattered armor fragments to reassemble around an opponent as an ice prison 15.

Her use of Ring Fusion inspires Xiao Yan to investigate the technique and consider whether his own Martial Souls could be combined 16.

• Seventh-rank ice crystal protection Soul Tool — Carried during her confrontation with Xiao Yan. She believes it would allow her to withdraw safely even if Xiao Zhan intervened; its protection is not demonstrated in the duel 14.
