Background / History

Raising Ye Xiao

Ye Guyi began traveling independently at a young age. During a late-night outing, she found the physically regressed Ye Xiao and took him home. She raised him for years, becoming both his protector and the person he regarded as family. The sight of an unmarried young woman caring for a small child also caused misunderstandings during their travels 1 7 21.

The pair made their living hunting wild monsters while moving between hiding places. Although Ye Guyi initially handled his care and safety, Ye Xiao increasingly made their decisions once he became capable of thinking independently. His improvements to her Angel Sword Technique developed over three years 1 5 7 10.

Exposure by the Heavenly Screen

Ye Guyi supervised Ye Xiao’s Martial Soul awakening outside Mingdu. Soon afterward, the Heavenly Screen exposed a future in which he killed gods and became an enemy of major continental powers. She took him back to their concealed mountain cave, where they hid until their food ran out half a month later 1 2 7 9.

Disguised for travel, they entered the Soul Hunting Forest near Mingdu. Ye Guyi identified a roughly three-hundred-year-old Silverleaf Azure Antelope as a suitable source for his first Soul Ring, recognizing the compatibility between its sharpness-attributed horns and his Sword Martial Soul 9.

As Ye Xiao’s abilities developed, their protective roles reversed. After witnessing his Geng Metal Sword Qi, she judged that she probably could no longer defeat him. Nevertheless, she continued providing practical support, catching him when spiritual exhaustion caused him to faint 12.

Seeking Refuge in the Far North

Concerned that the Heavenly Screen had made enemies of nearly the entire continent, Ye Guyi questioned whether the Ice and Snow Empresses would truly help them. With the Sun Moon Empire pursuing Ye Xiao and threatening Ji Juechen and Jing Ziyan, the pair nevertheless traveled toward the Far North 20 21.

Ye Guyi paid their way through Dragon City’s gate and supplied Ye Xiao with her storage bracelet when he proposed entering the frozen region alone. She reluctantly accepted that her cultivation and resistance to cold were insufficient to accompany him safely 21.

Before they could separate, Yan Shaozhe and Lin Huiqun intercepted them at the border. Their disguises failed, but a descending protective light prevented Lin Huiqun from seizing Ye Xiao. The Snow Empress and Ice Empress subsequently intervened, and the Snow Empress brought Ye Guyi into the Far North under her protection 22 24 25.

Her Father’s Remains and the Cult’s Trap

Zhongli Wu reported finding information about a deceased man surnamed Ye with an Angel Martial Soul, whom he suspected was Ye Guyi’s father. Ye Xishui planned to fabricate a lead about his remains, counting on Ye Guyi’s attachment to her father to draw both her and Ye Xiao out of hiding 33.

News later claimed that the Sun Moon Empire would dispose of Ye Fu’s remains alongside the execution of Ye Xiao’s associates. Ye Xiao sought powerful allies and specifically requested protection for the body. A prison conversation subsequently revealed that the advertised remains were fake and the announcement was bait 36 38.

While Ye Xiao and the Snow Empress departed for Sun Moon, Ye Guyi remained in the Far North. Frustrated by the widening gap in their abilities, she resolved to overcome her difficulty with Sword Heart cultivation. She was still inside the protected cave when later Heavenly Screen scenes intensified her anxiety about Ye Xiao’s relationship with the Snow Empress 38 44.

Appearance

  • Hair and face: Golden hair and a delicate face, often partly concealed beneath a hood 1 21.
  • Usual traveling clothes: A black robe that conceals her figure and helps hide her identity 1 21.
  • Disguises: Uses makeup and altered clothing; her limited Aura Concealment Technique cannot transform her appearance as thoroughly as Ye Xiao’s 9 22.
  • Future attire: Wears a long purple-and-gold dress when visiting the Sword Cloud Guard with Ye Xiao 11.

Personality

Ye Guyi is vigilant and practically minded. Her experience living on the road shows in her caution during hunts, use of disguises, and handling of city guards. When Ye Xiao becomes frustrated with his progress, she encourages him to concentrate on what he can accomplish rather than rushing 1 9 21.

She is affectionate and playful with Ye Xiao, frequently teasing him or pinching his cheeks. That closeness also makes his growing independence painful: she accepts that he has surpassed her, but feels disappointed that he no longer needs her protection 7 21.

The Heavenly Screen brings out her jealousy and possessiveness. She reacts strongly to future scenes involving the Snow Empress, even while recognizing that those events have not yet happened. Her embarrassment over assisted cultivation initially holds her back, but concern about falling behind eventually strengthens her determination to learn 10 29 30 38 44.

Abilities & Skills

Angel Sword Technique

Ye Guyi possesses the foundation that allows her to follow Ye Xiao’s increasingly sophisticated revisions of her swordsmanship 1 5.

  • Version 1.3 raises her combat power by nearly 12% over its earlier form 1.
  • Her mastery contributes to Ye Xiao’s first Teaching Panel reward 1.
  • The technique remains demanding even for someone with her established foundation 5.

Aura Concealment Technique

Her incomplete grasp can distort an observer’s assessment without fully suppressing her Soul Power 22 34.

  • Makes her level-25 cultivation appear to be level 30 to Yan Shaozhe 34.
  • Requires makeup to support her disguise rather than independently changing her appearance 22.

Sword Heart and Advanced Swordsmanship

Ye Xiao teaches her Sword Heart, while the Snow Empress instructs her in swordsmanship 37 38.

  • She has not successfully condensed Sword Heart in the documented present timeline 38.
  • Its absence hinders her progress with Aura Concealment, Treading on Snow Without a Trace, and Emperor Sword 38.
  • She resolves to pursue assisted cultivation rather than allow the gap between herself and Ye Xiao to continue widening 38.

Growth Through Defeating Evil Soul Masters

The displayed future shows Ye Guyi gaining Soul Power from Evil Soul Masters, although she must still convert that power into Sword Qi 11.

  • Ye Xiao captures Evil Soul Masters rather than killing them so they can support her cultivation 33.
  • In the present, he proposes repeatedly exploiting Ye Xishui’s nirvana and recovery as a renewable cultivation resource 43.
  • A level-99 Evil Soul Master would provide more power than Ye Guyi can safely absorb at once; the Snow Empress offers to seal the excess for gradual absorption 43.

Equipment / Items

  • Storage soul-tool bracelet — Holds dry rations and drinking water. She lends it to Ye Xiao before his planned solo journey into the Far North 21.

Relationships

  • Ye Xiao — Foundling and adopted younger-brother figure whom she raised. Their present relationship develops romantic feelings, including an underwater kiss; the Heavenly Screen depicts them openly acknowledging themselves as a couple 1 7 11 12 35.
  • Snow Empress — Protector and swordsmanship instructor, as well as a focus of Ye Guyi’s jealousy. Her protective barrier keeps Ye Guyi safe from the Far North’s cold but prevents her from leaving the cave in alarm 25 37 44.
  • Ye Fu — Identified as her deceased father in the remains-related plot. The first report is tentative, and the remains advertised as bait are later revealed to be fake 33 36 38.
  • Jing Ziyan — An acquaintance who notices the change in her future relationship with Ye Xiao and teases the couple. In the present, Ye Guyi is concerned about her threatened execution 11 12 21.
  • Ye Xishui — Enemy who attempts to exploit her attachment to her father. Ye Xiao later plans to turn the captured Ye Xishui into a resource for Ye Guyi’s cultivation 33 42 43.
  • Ning Rongrong — In the displayed future, attempts to force Ye Guyi to give up Ye Xiao. His intervention and killing of Ning Rongrong become a turning point in the couple’s relationship 12.
