Present Timeline
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Soul Power 10; Epiphyllum Sword awakened | 1 | Awakens an Ultimate Ice sword Martial Soul. His Teaching Panel lists comprehension at 10 after teaching Ye Guyi raises it from 9, allowing him to deduce Angel Sword Technique version 2.0. |
| Level 12; first yellow Soul Ring | 10 | Absorbs a 300-year Soul Ring and gains Power of Sharpness. Each sword swing has a 0.05% chance of releasing sharp Sword Qi, giving him a starting point for further research. |
| Comprehension 13; Geng Metal Sword Qi | 12 | Learns the Cloud Sword Art from his future self’s broadcast. Its viewers count toward his teaching rewards. He combines spiritual power and Soul Power into Geng Metal Sword Qi, producing Soul Elder-level damage before exhausting himself. |
| Level 13; comprehension 15 | 21 | Records 344,396 disciples. Completes the first layer of the Indestructible Sword Body, enabling Sword Qi conversion, and develops several supporting techniques. Sword Dao Sequence reaches 12.5%. |
| Blank Godhood accepted | 25 | Receives a First-Level God inheritance, not immediate godhood. His First Trial requires raising his first Soul Ring to 3,000 years; the listed reward is part of the Divine Realm’s book collection. |
| Intercepting Sword Technique and Equilibrium | 27 | Develops Soul Power interruption through his understanding of meridians and gains the ability to fuse two attributes. |
| Expanded Sword Dao inheritance | 37 | Remains level 13 with comprehension 15. His panel lists the first-layer body technique as Permanence Sword Body, raises Treading on Snow Without a Trace’s ceiling to Soul King, and records Sword Dao Sequence at 15.5%. Adds Heaven and Earth One Sword and Ten Thousand Swords Return to the Origin. |
| Sword Dao Sequence, first stage: Primordial Beginning Opens Heaven | 41 | Establishes a rudimentary Long River of Sword Dao and an authorization hierarchy. His panel records 789,321 people taught; his level and comprehension remain 13 and 15. |
Heavenly Screen Future
These developments belong to the future shown by the Heavenly Screen, which changes as its revelations influence the present 7 29.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Soul Saint, before the reset | 11 | Retrospectively identified as the point after which the Ice Empress could no longer get the better of him. |
| Eight-ring Soul Douluo, before the reset | 2 | Reveals eight Soul Rings while confronting Tang San after killing Ning Rongrong. |
| Cultivation reset, followed by a yellow Soul Ring | 4 | Rapidly rebuilds through Sword Qi after the universal reset and condenses a new yellow ring. His pre-reset Soul Rings had been configured as amplification skills. |
| Level 30; three black Soul Rings | 14 15 | Reaches this state within one month of the reset. Prepares to conquer Mingdu and treats the available level-four and level-five Soul Tools as inadequate threats. |
| Power of heaven and earth at the Soul Elder stage | 18 19 | Draws on rule-related power normally associated with gods and demonstrates Sword Qi transformation and regeneration against the descended Shrek members. |
| Further Sword Heart breakthrough | 20 29 | Defeating Tang San lifts a psychological burden. Gains a passive flow-state effect that makes his presence disappear and begins making physical bodies for the Snow and Ice Empresses. |
| Proliferating Sword Art and Sword Qi Loan | 49 | After failing to directly comprehend the insects’ protected origin power, independently deduces a way to generate matching Sword Qi from borrowed Sword Qi and distributes it across Star Luo City. |
Background / History
Ye Xiao crossed into the Douluo world in his own body, which had regressed to childhood. Ye Guyi found him while out hunting after a late-night meal and took him home. She raised him, and the two spent years moving between hiding places while making a living through hunting. He came to regard her as his family 1 10.
Before awakening his Martial Soul, Ye Xiao had already spent three years improving Ye Guyi’s Angel Sword Technique. Version 1.3 increased her combat power by nearly 12%. Her cultivation of his improvements made her his first recorded student and raised his Sword Dao comprehension to the transformative value of 10 1 5.
Appearance
- Present form: A small, white-haired boy with red eyes and a delicate face. At the time he meets the Ice Empress in person, he is approximately her height 1 25.
- Early clothing: Wears a small black robe during his Martial Soul awakening 1.
- Disguises: Poses as a little girl while Ye Guyi disguises herself as an adult man. He can alter his appearance more effectively than she can through his concealment technique 9 22.
- Future form: Retains his white hair and favors conspicuous white robes 11 18.
Personality
Ye Xiao is playful, boastful, and fond of teasing people close to him. He frequently hides serious calculations behind jokes or deliberately theatrical displays. His future self admits through his behavior that he enjoys the appearance of sophistication more than drinking tea itself 7 11 24 45.
He is also cautious about exposing himself before he has sufficient strength. Rather than assuming his comprehension can solve everything, he recognizes that it is heavily specialized in swords and limited by his knowledge. After nearly losing himself during Dao comprehension, he resolves to broaden his learning before pursuing similar insights again 5 9 41.
His loyalty is personal rather than based on a simple division between good and evil. He remembers assistance, offers repayment, and distinguishes gratitude from submission. Although he resents Gu Yuena’s demands, he does not intend to retaliate against her for helping him 31 42 45.
Threats against his family provoke a much harsher response. His future self openly calls himself petty and extends his revenge against Tang San to Tang San’s family. In the present, coercion involving Ye Guyi’s father and the threatened execution of potential allies pushes him toward increasingly decisive violence. Even then, innocent deaths initially disturb him; his attempt to suppress that discomfort contributes to his dangerous near-merger with the Dao 7 36 37 40 41.
Abilities & Skills
Epiphyllum Sword
An Ultimate Ice Martial Soul resembling a cold jade sword. Ye Xiao describes it as three feet and seven inches long, nearly weightless, and formed from solid ice rather than metal, with a faint moonlike glow 1.
- Power of Sharpness: His first Soul Skill enhances the sword’s sharpness and gives each swing a 0.05% chance of producing sharp Sword Qi 10.
- Soul Ring emphasis: His future self favors amplification skills because his independently developed sword techniques already provide offensive options 4.
- Future Soul Tool resistance: Splits an energy beam with his blade and survives a level-five Sword of Judgment without injury, emerging with a stronger presence 17 18.
Teaching Panel and Sword Comprehension
The Teaching Panel increases Ye Xiao’s Sword Dao comprehension as more living beings master at least one branch of his teachings. Each order-of-magnitude milestone in qualifying learners grants another comprehension point 1.
- Broadcast teaching counts: Lessons delivered by his future self through the Heavenly Screen benefit the present Ye Xiao’s panel 12.
- Interest is not mastery: The panel separately records hidden prospective learners; these are not the same as confirmed practitioners 5 10.
- Technique refinement: Angel Sword Technique version 2.1 provides a listed 66% combat-power increase; its limit or ultimate version reaches 150% 10 21 25.
- Specialization: His exceptional comprehension applies principally to swords. Recasting cultivation problems as Sword Dao problems is central to his development 9.
- Knowledge requirement: He cannot reproduce every future technique merely by watching it 20.
- Risk: Uncontrolled comprehension can threaten his identity by drawing him into the Dao itself 40 41.
Sword Qi Cultivation and Sword Body
Ye Xiao seeks to replace Soul Power with Sword Qi as his cultivation foundation, allowing his sword-focused comprehension to improve cultivation methods as well as combat techniques 9 20.
- Cloud Sword Art: A foundational method combining intent and Qi. Destruction judges that it could allow people without Soul Power to cultivate toward Titled Douluo 12.
- Geng Metal Sword Qi: Sharp Sword Qi produced by combining spiritual power with Soul Power. Its first use delivers Soul Elder-level damage while Ye Xiao is level 12, but depletes his spiritual power 12.
- Indestructible/Permanence Sword Body: Its first layer converts Soul Power into Sword Qi. The later panel uses the name Permanence Sword Body 21 37.
- Cold Jade Sword Scripture: Cultivates ice- and sword-attributed power. Ye Xiao creates it as an alternative while unable to derive endlessly renewing Sword Qi through his sword body 21 34.
- Future regeneration: His future self reconstructs his body through Sword Qi after being pierced, forms four additional sword-bearing arms, and survives attacks based on physical damage and poison 19.
- Future body creation: Uses Sword Qi transformation to give the Snow Empress a physical body and offers the same to the Ice Empress 29.
Sword Dao Sequence
Ye Xiao creates the Sword Dao Sequence to prevent practitioners of his own methods from using them against the people he wants to protect 21 41.
| Authority | Holder(s) | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Dao master | Ye Xiao | Establishes the system and assigns authorization 41. |
| First-level authorization | Ye Guyi, Snow Empress | Lower-authority practitioners cannot use Sword Qi against them 41. |
| Second-level authorization | Ice Empress, Xiao Bai, Wu Qingyao | Receive elevated standing within the same hierarchy 41. |
- Current scope: Controls Sword Qi and sword-attributed Soul Power, not every form of cultivation or attack 41.
- Development stage: Remains rudimentary; additional functions involving fortune and superior authority are future plans 41.
- Reset preparation: Ye Xiao expects its importance to grow when the universal reset drives people toward his cultivation methods 41.
- Ten Thousand Swords Return to the Origin: Lets him draw to a limited extent on nearby Sword Qi or sword-attributed Soul Power to replenish himself 37.
Meridians, Attributes, and Rule-Based Swordsmanship
- Intercepting Sword Technique: Severs the flow of a target’s Soul Power. At his early level, it can normally affect opponents up to level-thirty Soul Elders; he treats the stronger Wu Qingyao only because she is defenseless. It consumes substantial spiritual power 27.
- Equilibrium: Allows the simultaneous use and fusion of different attributes, initially limited to two 27 37.
- Heaven and Earth One Sword: Derived from the Snow Empress’s Emperor Sword and draws on the power of heaven and earth. Ye Xiao develops it for her because using it himself at his current cultivation would be fatal 37.
- Hidden countermeasure: His Cloud Sword Art contains an exploitable measure capable of briefly slowing a practitioner’s Soul Power. The Ice Empress uses it against Ye Yulin 27.
Movement, Concealment, and Mental Control
- Treading on Snow Without a Trace: A lightness and escape technique. Its documented ceiling improves from Soul Elder and below to Soul King 34 37.
- Aura Concealment Technique: Locks away Soul Power and its presence. Without physical contact, even Shrek Titled Douluo cannot see through Ye Xiao’s concealment; incomplete mastery can still distort perceived levels 22 34.
- Sword Heart: Helps him control emotional disturbances. In the screened future, a further breakthrough produces a passive flow state and the disappearance of his presence 29 40.
- Earth-Traversing Sword Light: His future self’s high-speed travel technique, used to investigate the swarm alone 48.
Propagation Research
The future Ye Xiao investigates whether the insects’ Propagation properties can be reproduced through Sword Qi 49.
- Proliferating Sword Art: Generates Sword Qi matching the Sword Qi he lends out, though its efficiency is low for an individual 49.
- Sword Qi Loan: Distributes borrowed Sword Qi and the accompanying art to recipients, including Wang Xian’er 49.
- Limitations: He cannot directly decipher the insects’ protected origin power and instead works backward from its observable effects. He also acknowledges that he cannot yet control the loan system’s wider consequences 49.
- Present-timeline hypothesis: The observing Ye Xiao proposes applying Propagation to Sword Dao itself, but has not achieved this and cannot comprehend Propagation through the screen alone 49.
Relationships
- Ye Guyi — Rescuer, guardian, and adoptive elder-sister figure whom he considers family. Their screened future develops into a romantic partnership after he saves her from Ning Rongrong. In the present, their closeness also becomes increasingly romantic 1 11 12 35.
- Snow Empress — Present protector, collaborator, and fellow teacher. She offers shelter while he promises to protect the Far North and shares sword methods. She also interrupts his dangerous Dao comprehension. In the screened future, she resides in his Martial Soul before he creates a physical body for her 25 29 34 41.
- Ice Empress — Ally with a combative, teasing rapport. He exchanges techniques for her help rescuing prisoners; she uses his countermeasure to kill Ye Yulin. Her future self is closely attached to both him and the Snow Empress 26 27 29.
- Gu Yuena — Powerful ally who demands his affection in exchange for assistance. His future self’s private thoughts about making her his mount repeatedly strain their present relationship 36 44 45.
- Plane Consciousness — Patron and intermediary whom he privately calls “Mommy.” Helps him contact powerful allies and regards him as important to the plane’s future 23 36.
- Wu Qingyao — Protector and later student. Nearly dies defending him and Ye Guyi; he helps treat her and accepts her request for instruction. She insists on calling him Master Ye 24 27 31 34.
- Ji Juechen and Jing Ziyan — Close associates of his screened future, where they train the Sword Cloud Guard. In the present, their capture becomes leverage intended to draw him into danger 11 15 36.
- Ye Fu / Uncle Ye — Ye Guyi’s father, whose threatened remains become a central pressure point against Ye Xiao. He demands an accounting from those responsible for disturbing the grave 36 37 42 43.
- Nine Treasures Glazed Tile Sect — Prospective ally that publicly distances itself from Ning Rongrong. Wu Qingyao’s intervention earns Ye Xiao’s gratitude 4 7 31.
- Demon Empress — Agrees to assist on the condition that he kill Tang San in the future; Ye Xiao accepts 36 37.
- Myriad Demon King — Assists his side and is injured fighting Ye Xishui. Ye Xiao explicitly promises to remember and repay that help 42.
- Tang San and the Shrek Seven Devils — Principal enemies in the screened future. Their conflict also motivates Shrek Academy’s efforts to seize control of the present Ye Xiao 2 7 14 17 20.
Story Role / Major Arcs

- Learning from himself: The broadcast of his future Cloud Sword Art lesson both teaches him the method and expands his own teaching rewards 12.
Far North Alliance

Sun Moon Hostage Crisis
- Escalation: The threatened execution of Ji Juechen and Jing Ziyan, together with the intended desecration of Ye Fu’s remains, forces him to seek stronger backing 36.
- Coalition building: With the Plane Consciousness’s help, he gains support from Gu Yuena and the Demon Empress 36 37.
- Sword Dao foundation: During the journey toward Mingdu, the Snow Empress saves him from losing himself in Dao comprehension. He subsequently establishes his first Sword Dao hierarchy 40 41.
- Confronting the captives: After his allies capture Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao, he obtains Long Xiaoyao’s confession by exploiting his family ties. The Snow Empress kills Long Xiaoyao; Ye Xiao proposes using Ye Xishui’s regenerative Bright Phoenix and Evil Soul Master attributes as a cultivation aid for Ye Guyi 42 43.
Screened Conquest and Swarm Crisis
- Conquest of Mingdu: The future Ye Xiao storms the imperial palace, defeats the descended Shrek members, and destroys Tang San’s and Xiao Wu’s consciousness-bearing avatars 17 18 19 20.
- Refusal of the throne: He declines to become emperor, instead ordering widespread sword cultivation, food support for practitioners, talent identification, and improved Soul Tools for the guards 32.
- Swarm investigation: After the screen shows Star Dou’s destruction, his future self travels alone to investigate and discovers insects spreading through the Star Luo Empire 47 48.
- Independent solution: His future research produces the Sword Qi Loan, while the present Ye Xiao identifies the more ambitious possibility of a self-propagating Sword Dao 49.
