Background / History
Qian Xunji is Bibi Dong’s teacher and the father of her daughter, Qian Renxue. His past treatment of Bibi Dong left lasting resentment: Qian Daoliu condemns his actions as “foolish and shameless” and holds him responsible for both her emotional withdrawal and Renxue’s childhood without maternal affection. Qian Xunji instead argues that enough years have passed for Bibi Dong to have let the matter go 5 10.
He ordered Spirit Hall’s attack on Sea God Island, where An Yi grew up. An Yi later identifies the islanders killed in that expedition as a reason to seek revenge against him. An Yi also states that Qian Xunji persecuted the Clear Sky Sect and hunted Tang Hao with Qian Daoliu’s indulgence 27 30.
Personality
Qian Xunji is proud of his authority and initially judges An Yi by cultivation rank, questioning why a “mere Soul Saint” should teach his daughter when Spirit Hall has experienced elders and worshippers. Although he recognizes An Yi’s exceptional talent and the value of his Soul Tool knowledge, he remains suspicious of his undisclosed background 4 5.
His attitude toward Bibi Dong is possessive. Despite their teacher–disciple relationship, he calls her “my woman” and regards her closeness with An Yi as an affront to his dignity. His jealousy becomes strong enough to distract him from administrative reports and provoke thoughts of killing An Yi 9 10 13.
He can restrain himself under Qian Daoliu’s orders, but repeated challenges to his authority eventually push him into violence. During the resulting fight, he tries to recall his attack when he realizes Qian Renxue is endangered 14 25.
