Background / History

Recruiting An Yi

Qian Daoliu encountered An Yi on the coast of Vast Sea City while the young Soul Master was examining his newly evolved Great Yin Heaven-Devouring Dragon Martial Soul. He personally tested An Yi and discovered that his sacred energy could be devoured and his Angel Domain torn open. Although he had not used his full strength or activated his Martial Soul Avatar, he judged that An Yi’s spatial abilities might allow him to escape even from him 1 4 20.

He brought An Yi to Spirit City and appointed him Qian Renxue’s teacher. When Qian Xunji questioned the choice of an eighteen-year-old Soul Saint over Spirit Hall’s experienced Titled Douluo, Qian Daoliu explained that the appointment was chiefly intended to keep An Yi close. By granting him status and a personal connection to Qian Renxue, he hoped to secure a powerful future supporter for his granddaughter 4.

Discovering An Yi’s Soul Tool Technology

Qian Renxue later demonstrated an offensive bracer she had made under An Yi’s instruction in roughly half a month. Qian Daoliu recognized that An Yi possessed a teachable system of Soul Tool technology, rather than merely an ancient relic—something Spirit Hall’s extensive searches had failed to recover 5.

During the same visit, Qian Renxue revealed that An Yi had known Bibi Dong more than ten years earlier. Qian Daoliu asked her to investigate how they had met, suspecting a connection to the Sea God Island expedition. After she left, he condemned Qian Xunji’s past treatment of Bibi Dong and rejected his assumption that she should have forgotten it 5.

Supporting Qian Renxue’s Reconciliation with Bibi Dong

Concerned about Qian Renxue going out at night, Qian Daoliu followed her and witnessed her embracing Bibi Dong while the latter slept in An Yi’s arms. He physically restrained Qian Xunji from interrupting, recognizing that An Yi had achieved something he himself could not: giving Qian Renxue a chance to approach her mother without rejection 9.

He subsequently ordered Qian Xunji not to provoke An Yi. Qian Daoliu placed Qian Renxue’s emotional well-being above his son’s pride, while also stressing the danger of turning a talented Soul Master and Soul Tool craftsman into Spirit Hall’s enemy 10.

When Qian Renxue later demanded a replacement teacher, he refused to punish An Yi simply for failing to indulge her. He explained that An Yi was an invited teacher, not a Spirit Hall subordinate, and that she could not treat his favors as obligations. His intervention prompted her to return to An Yi and apologize 15 16.

Handling Qian Xunji’s Attack

After Qian Xunji wounded An Yi during the confrontation at Saintess Hall, Qian Renxue fetched Qian Daoliu. He examined An Yi’s weakened presence, questioned those involved, and promised to provide an explanation for the incident 27.

Back in the Worship Hall, he reprimanded Qian Xunji for confronting Bibi Dong and damaging his standing with Qian Renxue. Although he did not wholly dismiss the claim that An Yi had deliberately accepted the injury, he demanded a convincing motive. He ordered Qian Xunji to stay away from Bibi Dong’s residence and arranged for tonics to be delivered to An Yi the following day 28.

Personality

Qian Daoliu is affectionate toward Qian Renxue but capable of correcting her entitlement. He readily comforts her and worries about her safety, yet explicitly tells her that not everyone must revolve around her. Rather than forcing An Yi to accommodate her, he makes her confront the difference between familial affection and favors freely given 5 9 16.

His decisions combine concern for his granddaughter with long-term political calculation. He tolerates An Yi’s independence because of the support he could offer Qian Renxue and the value of his abilities to Spirit Hall. He is also candid about limits: he acknowledges that An Yi may escape him and recognizes that forcing Bibi Dong to accept her daughter would only worsen their relationship 4 9 10.

His condemnation of Qian Xunji does not erase his loyalty to his son. In private, he states that he would not kill Qian Xunji to avenge an outsider, even had An Yi died in the confrontation 28.

Abilities & Skills

Level 99 Cultivation

Qian Daoliu is a Peerless Douluo standing at the pinnacle of the continent’s Soul Masters 4 20.

  • An Yi identifies him as the only person in Spirit Hall who can genuinely threaten him and admits he cannot defeat him directly 30.
  • His strength deters An Yi from immediately killing Qian Xunji, though An Yi remains confident that he could escape 30.

Six-Winged Angel

His inherited Martial Soul produces sacred energy with powerful purification and dissolution properties 4 20.

  • Sacred energy normally resists erosion and is difficult for other attributes to devour 20.
  • An Yi’s evolved Martial Soul counters this advantage, consuming Qian Daoliu’s sacred energy rather than being suppressed by it 4 20.

Angel Domain

Qian Daoliu’s domain is exceptionally difficult to breach head-on 4.

  • He names Tang Chen as one of the few people previously capable of breaking through it 4.
  • An Yi tore it open during their test, despite being a Soul Saint 4.
  • That test did not involve Qian Daoliu’s full strength or Martial Soul Avatar; it established a limitation in containment, not a defeat in an unrestricted battle 4.

Relationships

  • Qian Renxue — Granddaughter and principal concern. He seeks both lasting support for her future and a way for her to receive her mother’s affection 4 9 10.
  • Qian Xunji — Son. Qian Daoliu repeatedly rebukes his possessiveness and past conduct toward Bibi Dong, but remains unwilling to sacrifice him for an outsider 5 10 28.
  • An Yi — Invited teacher and prospective ally. Qian Daoliu respects his exceptional combat potential and independence; An Yi, in turn, recognizes him as Spirit Hall’s decisive military deterrent 4 16 30.
  • Bibi Dong — Spirit Hall’s saintess and Qian Renxue’s mother. He recognizes that her rejection of Qian Renxue stems from unresolved suffering and supports An Yi’s efforts to ease the estrangement 5 9.
  • Tang Chen — A past opponent capable of breaching his Angel Domain. An Yi considers releasing Tang Chen from Slaughter City as a potential countermeasure if Qian Daoliu’s side pushes him too far 4 30.
