Background / History
Ah Yin’s Sacrifice and Expulsion
Tang Hao married Ah Yin, a Hundred-Thousand-Year Transformed Soul Beast. According to Gu Chen’s retelling, Spirit Hall discovered her identity and pursued the couple, catching them on the day she gave birth to Tang San. Ah Yin sacrificed herself to Tang Hao, allowing him to become a Titled Douluo and escape with their son 24.
The aftermath brought heavy losses to the Clear Sky Sect and Tang Hao’s expulsion. Six years later, he blamed Spirit Hall for both his separation from Ah Yin and his sect’s suffering. Drinking beside the Blue Silver Grass that remained of his wife, he expressed remorse and placed his hopes for revenge on Tang San 16 20.
Tang Hao planted Ah Yin in a stone chamber behind a waterfall in the Xiling Mountain Range. He also kept her Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone there, inside a lead box he had made himself 41 42 47.
Return to Nuoding City
After visiting Ah Yin, Tang Hao returned to Nuoding City and learned from Nuoding Academy’s dean that Tang San had been imprisoned. He broke into the cell and killed Scar and two other prisoners after Tang San identified them as his attackers. His Clear Sky Hammer revealed his identity to Yu Xiaogang 19 20.
Tang Hao accepted Yu Xiaogang as Tang San’s teacher because of his connection to Bibi Dong, whose successful cultivation of Twin Martial Souls might provide a solution to Tang San’s own cultivation risks. Tang Hao himself did not know how to resolve those problems 21.
Attempts to Kill Gu Chen
Tang Hao initially refused Tang San’s request to kill Gu Chen, considering an attack on a child who was not yet a Soul Master beneath his standing. Nevertheless, he later ambushed Gu Chen in an alley with the Clear Sky Hammer. Gu Chen escaped through a Space Mark, and Tang Hao’s search of Nuoding City failed to locate him 21 22.
His attack was tied to a plan involving Xiao Wu. Tang Hao intended for Tang San to grow close to her, then for Spirit Hall to drive her into a desperate situation in which she would sacrifice herself to his son 22.
When Gu Chen returned and exposed Xiao Wu’s identity as a Hundred-Thousand-Year Transformed Soul Beast, Tang Hao ordered him to stay away from her. Gu Chen’s accusations concerning Ah Yin and the Clear Sky Sect provoked another hammer attack, but he escaped with Xiao Wu. Tang Hao subsequently regretted not killing Xiao Wu outright to secure her Soul Bone, even at the cost of wasting her Soul Ring 23 24.
The Xiling Mountain Range Trap
Gu Chen recruited Da Ming and Er Ming to help eliminate Tang Hao, then located and took both Ah Yin and her Soul Bone. Returning to Nuoding Academy, he beat Tang San to draw Tang Hao out of hiding 28 41 42 43 44.
Tang Hao arrived and attacked, but Gu Chen evaded him with Space Jump and positioned himself beside Tang San, limiting Tang Hao’s freedom to strike. Gu Chen then displayed Ah Yin and the lead box, demanding that Tang Hao come to the waterfall within three days if he wanted them returned 46 47.
After forcing Nuoding City’s strongest healing-type Soul Master to treat Tang San and Yu Xiaogang, Tang Hao dismissed his son’s warning about a trap and went alone. At the waterfall, Gu Chen brought in Da Ming, Er Ming, and Chang Qing. Tang Hao’s confidence faltered when he found himself facing three Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts. His fate beyond this confrontation is not documented 48.
Appearance
- Black robes: Conceals his face beneath black clothing during the prison rescue and his alley ambush 20 21.
- Unkempt presentation: Described as sloppy when confronting Gu Chen at Nuoding Academy 46.
- Alcohol-associated appearances: Drinks from a wine jar beside Ah Yin and later arrives at the academy carrying a partly eaten chicken leg and smelling of alcohol 16 46.
Personality
Tang Hao is fiercely protective of Tang San. He kills the prisoners responsible for beating him without hearing their explanations, restrains his attacks when his son is endangered, and urgently seeks treatment for his injuries. His concern is also bound to his ambitions: Tang San’s Twin Martial Souls represent his hope of taking revenge on Spirit Hall and returning to the Clear Sky Sect 20 46 47.
He places power above impartial judgment. Even after Gu Chen argues that Tang San and Yu Xiaogang initiated their conflict, Tang Hao threatens him over any harm to his son. His pride also makes him dismiss the danger of a trap laid by a Two-Ring Soul Grandmaster 46 48.
His grief over Ah Yin coexists with a willingness to exploit another transformed Soul Beast. He expresses remorse for his wife’s fate, yet plans to obtain Xiao Wu’s sacrifice for Tang San and later regrets losing access to her Soul Ring and Soul Bone 16 22 24.
Abilities & Skills
Clear Sky Hammer
Tang Hao’s Martial Soul delivers overwhelming destructive force 20 22 46.
- Kills three prisoners with a single strike 20.
- Leaves a huge crater during his failed ambush of Gu Chen 22.
- Pulverizes Gu Chen’s Blue Silver Grass; the wind from the same blow sends Yu Xiaogang flying 46.
- Cannot reliably hit Gu Chen while he uses spatial movement, and Tang San’s proximity prevents Tang Hao from attacking without restraint 46.
Soul Power Pressure and Killing Intent
Tang Hao uses the oppressive pressure of a Titled Douluo alongside killing intent honed in Slaughter City 46 47.
- His killing intent leaves Gu Chen feeling trapped in a sea of blood during the alley ambush 22.
- Uses Soul Power pressure to threaten Gu Chen during negotiations over Tang San and Ah Yin 46 47.
Perception
- Recognizes Xiao Wu as a Hundred-Thousand-Year Transformed Soul Beast 22 23.
- Detects the spatial fluctuation of Gu Chen’s escape and compares it to Bone Douluo Gu Rong’s Soul Skill 22.
- Searches Nuoding City in roughly half an hour, but fails to find Gu Chen because he has already teleported to Holy Soul Village 22.
Relationships
- Tang San — Son and principal hope for revenge against Spirit Hall. Tang Hao secretly guards him and relies on his Twin Martial Souls to restore their position 16 46 47.
- Ah Yin — Wife, whose sacrifice enabled his breakthrough. Gu Chen later uses her surviving Blue Silver Grass form as leverage against him. Gu Chen’s allegation that Tang Hao deliberately arranged her sacrifice remains an accusation, not an established account of his actions 16 24 47.
- Yu Xiaogang — Tang San’s teacher. Tang Hao tolerates and assists him because his connection to Bibi Dong may help solve the risks of Twin Martial Souls 21 47.
- Gu Chen — Enemy who survives repeated hammer attacks, rescues Xiao Wu from his plans, and organizes the ambush at Ah Yin’s hiding place 21 23 48.
- Xiao Wu — Intended source of a Hundred-Thousand-Year sacrifice for Tang San; escapes his reach with Gu Chen’s help 22 23 24.
- Spirit Hall — Target of his revenge, blamed for Ah Yin’s fate, the Clear Sky Sect’s losses, and his expulsion 16.
- Da Ming, Er Ming, and Chang Qing — The three Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts brought to confront him in the Xiling Mountain Range 48.
