Background / History
Tang San is a transmigrator who retains memories of a previous life in the Tang Sect, where he spent more than ten years. After being reborn on the Douluo Continent, he resumes cultivating the sect’s secret arts from childhood 9 12 13.
He grows up in Holy Soul Village with his father, Tang Hao, whom he initially regards as an ordinary blacksmith. His routine includes preparing breakfast for his father and climbing a nearby mountain to train at dawn 2 3.
Tang San and Han Qiu train together before Han Qiu recovers his previous-life memories. By roughly a year before their Martial Soul awakening, Tang San has surpassed him in every respect. Despite their familiarity, Tang San does not teach Han Qiu any Tang Sect techniques 1 3.
Appearance
- Childhood build: Initially about the same height as Han Qiu. Absorbing his first Soul Ring causes Tang San to grow two centimeters, though Han Qiu subsequently stands two centimeters taller than him 31.
- Distinctive accessory: Wears the jade storage belt he names Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges 22.
Personality
Tang San is disciplined and proud of his accumulated training. He considers himself exceptionally talented, but Han Qiu’s rapid improvement unsettles him enough to resolve to double his efforts. Defeat strengthens his determination rather than ending their friendship 5 13 33.
He is protective of his master and deeply impressed by apparent expertise. Yu Xiaogang’s deduction of his Twin Martial Souls convinces him to seek instruction; afterward, he angrily warns Wang Sheng against disparaging the Grandmaster 16 17 21.
Although inquisitive, Tang San recognizes boundaries around other people’s secrets. He does not press Han Qiu about his unusual training or successful absorption of a Thousand-Year Soul Ring, and he likewise refrains from investigating Xiao Wu’s Soul Ring 5 31 36.
His competitiveness has limits where friends are concerned. He regards Han Qiu as one of his few friends and declines to use dangerously powerful Hidden Weapon attacks against him during their later sparring 33.
Abilities & Skills
Mysterious Heaven Skill
Tang San’s principal internal cultivation method, retained from the Tang Sect 1 9.
- Builds internal power before Martial Soul awakening, producing the Soul Power measured as Innate Full Soul Power 9 17.
- Enhances strength, speed, and the continuity of his attacks; full activation increases his speed by more than fifty percent during his first spar with Han Qiu 11.
- Cannot sustain unrestricted output indefinitely: prolonged attacking consumes over half his Soul Power and brings his six-year-old body to its limit 12.
Blue Silver Grass
His publicly revealed Martial Soul initially has little offensive power without a Soul Ring 8 11.
- First Soul Skill — Blue Silver Entanglement: Grows resilient grass to bind an opponent’s limbs and restrict movement 31.
- Mandala Snake properties: His first ring grants increased toughness and poison capable of causing stiffness and paralysis 31.
- Defensive applications: Can weave the grass into layered walls or spread it into a surrounding net 33 34.
- Demonstrated weaknesses: Han Qiu counters it by striking structural and Soul Power connection points, purifying its toxin, and breaking its restraints through physical strength 32 33 34.
Clear Sky Hammer
Tang San’s second Martial Soul appears in his left hand. Tang Hao identifies it as the Clear Sky Hammer and forbids him from revealing it 9 11.
- Kept concealed during his early public battles and spars 11 30 32.
- Tang San considers it a stronger hidden trump card, but does not demonstrate its combat capabilities in the supplied events 36.
Purple Demon Eye
An ocular Tang Sect art that Tang San cultivates alongside the Mysterious Heaven Skill 1.
- Observes the Qi surrounding Han Qiu during body training, but cannot discern its internal circulation 5.
- Detects similarities between Han Qiu’s muscular and Qi-and-blood rhythms and Tang Hao’s bearing when using the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer 7.
Mysterious Jade Hand
A Tang Sect hand technique that envelops Tang San’s hands in faint azure or blue-green light 31 32.
- Allows him to meet Xiao Chenyu’s wolf claws head-on without retreating, then seize his wrist and throw him 31.
- Becomes stronger as his Mysterious Heaven Skill advances 31.
- Is copied by Han Qiu through the Heavenly Eye during their rematch 32.
Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track
An elusive movement technique from the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record 32.
- Uses unpredictable footwork to close several meters almost instantly 32.
- Fails to conceal his movements from Han Qiu’s Heavenly Eye, which enables Han Qiu to reproduce the technique 32 33.
Hidden Weapons
Tang San retains Tang Sect projectile techniques, though his age limits the time he can devote to practicing them 12.
- Heavenly Maiden Scatters Flowers: Launches multiple stones in a coordinated pattern rather than throwing them randomly 12.
- Uses Hidden Weapons covertly during the conflict between work-study and senior students 30.
- Has not yet begun forging proper Hidden Weapons at the time of his awakening 9.
- Avoids dangerous Hidden Weapon attacks against Han Qiu because a mistake could seriously injure his friend 33.
Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer
A force-stacking hammer technique taught by Tang Hao 6 7.
- Initially practices through repeated smithing, managing only to barely stack a second layer of force despite hundreds of daily blows 7.
- Receives formal instruction after awakening the Clear Sky Hammer 13.
Close Combat and Coordination
Tang San combines punches, elbows, kicks, feints, and rhythm changes, drawing on training across two lives 11 32.
- His combat experience, reactions, and ability to analyze techniques are comparable to those of an ordinary adult Soul Master 32.
- Uses control abilities to support Xiao Wu’s close-range attacks, binding Han Qiu’s wrist as she engages him 33 34.
- His elaborate attack patterns remain vulnerable to the Heavenly Eye’s prediction 11 32.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges — A precious jade-belt Soul Tool gifted by Yu Xiaogang and named by Tang San 22.
- Small smithing hammer — Used at his father’s forge to practice hammering and force accumulation 6 7.
- Stones and pebbles — Improvised projectiles for Heavenly Maiden Scatters Flowers during his first spar with Han Qiu 12.
Relationships
- Tang Hao — Father and smithing instructor. Tang San both respects and fears him, obeys his instruction to conceal the Clear Sky Hammer, and gains permission to attend school after revealing his Twin Martial Souls 6 11 13.
- Han Qiu — Childhood training companion, close friend, and rival. Han Qiu repeatedly defeats him and copies his techniques, pushing Tang San to train harder. Tang San nevertheless respects his privacy and avoids lethal attacks against him 1 5 13 32 33 36.
- Yu Xiaogang — Master. Tang San formally becomes his disciple after being convinced by his deduction of the Twin Martial Souls. Yu Xiaogang supplies a Soul Tool and personally guides his first Soul Ring hunt 16 17 22.
- Xiao Wu — Fellow work-study student, sparring partner, and combat teammate. She defeats him before meeting Han Qiu; Tang San later fights alongside her and agrees to carry her after she hurts her foot 21 33 34 35.
- Old Jack — Village elder who escorts Tang San and Han Qiu to Nuoding Academy and stresses the need for protection during their first Soul Ring hunts 15 17.
- Xiao Chenyu — Senior student defeated by Tang San’s hand techniques and Blue Silver Entanglement during the work-study students’ dispute 30 31.
- Wang Sheng — Fellow work-study student. Tang San intervenes when Wang Sheng is exhausted in battle, but also threatens him for insulting Yu Xiaogang 21 30.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Han Qiu’s Rise
- Loses his longstanding physical advantage as Han Qiu begins intensive body training and defeats him in mountain climbing 5 7.
- Attempts Han Qiu’s stretching exercises but cannot match his endurance or recovery, prompting a resolution to train twice as hard 5.
- Watches Han Qiu identify the principles of Tang Hao’s hammer technique despite Tang San’s own slow progress learning it 7.
Awakening and First Defeat
- Awakens Blue Silver Grass exactly as Han Qiu had predicted, while privately discovering his second, hammer-shaped Martial Soul 8 9.
- Challenges Han Qiu after awakening, escalating from close combat to full-powered Mysterious Heaven Skill and projectile techniques 11 12.
- Loses when Han Qiu catches his stones and returns them, leaving his face bruised. He accepts the defeat as a lesson that stronger opponents exist 12 13.
Nuoding Academy and First Soul Ring
- Enters Nuoding Academy as a work-study student and becomes Yu Xiaogang’s disciple 15 17 18.
- Travels with his master to obtain a first ring near the Grandmaster’s proposed limit of slightly over four hundred years 22.
- Successfully acquires the Mandala Snake ring and returns as a level-eleven Soul Master 24 25 30.
Senior-Student Conflict and Rematch
- Defeats Xiao Chenyu, demonstrating that his supposedly weak Blue Silver Grass can restrain and poison a Beast Soul Master 30 31.
- Challenges Han Qiu again, confident that his first ring has substantially narrowed their gap. Han Qiu copies his Tang Sect techniques and counters Blue Silver Entanglement, forcing another admission of defeat 32 33.
- Teams up with Xiao Wu, but their coordinated attacks also fail against Han Qiu’s perception and strength 33 34.
- Witnesses Han Qiu’s Thousand-Year first ring, contradicting his master’s stated absorption limit. He suspects an undisclosed secret but chooses not to investigate; Han Qiu subsequently restores the group’s depleted Soul Power 36.
