Background / History
Leadership of Dorm Six
As the city lord’s only son, Xiao Chenyu enjoyed considerable influence at Nuoding Academy and was accustomed to students seeking his favor. He led Dorm Six’s noble children and treated incoming work-study student Han Qiu as an inferior. When Zhang Jian volunteered to beat Han Qiu, Xiao Chenyu permitted it but warned him not to cripple someone they intended to use for chores 19 20.
After Han Qiu defeated Zhang Jian and Liu Long, Xiao Chenyu attempted to recruit him by offering protection, resources, and the prestige of serving the city lord’s son. Han Qiu refused. Xiao Chenyu attacked with his Wild Wolf Martial Soul, only to be knocked into the dormitory wall by a single punch. He then formally acknowledged Han Qiu as Dorm Six’s new boss 20.
His submission developed into genuine concern: when Han Qiu announced his solo Soul Ring hunt, Xiao Chenyu offered to accompany him with the others. Han Qiu declined and told them to remain at the academy and look after the dormitory 22.
Conflict with the Work-Study Students
Xiao Chenyu later led the senior students in a confrontation with Xiao Wu’s work-study group. Although he boasted of his standing at the academy, he explicitly placed Han Qiu above himself. Xiao Wu demanded that the defeated side recognize her as boss 29.
After Zhang Jian and Liu Long lost their matches, Xiao Chenyu personally faced Tang San. Tang San’s Hundred-Year Soul Ring made him suspect that the first-year student might have powerful backing. Despite taking the fight seriously, he was outmaneuvered, bound by Blue Silver Entanglement, and unable to cut through its reinforced stems. He conceded after Tang San explained its paralytic poison 30 31.
Xiao Chenyu nevertheless refused to change leaders, insisting that Xiao Wu first defeat Han Qiu. When Han Qiu arrived, he reprimanded Xiao Chenyu for troubling his friends and instructed him to acknowledge Xiao Wu. Xiao Chenyu agreed, but Xiao Wu insisted on challenging Han Qiu before taking over 31 32.
Witnessing Han Qiu’s Abilities
Xiao Chenyu watched Han Qiu overcome Tang San’s restraints and defeat his opponents through overwhelming physical strength. Eager to learn, he asked Han Qiu for instruction, but abandoned the idea after hearing that the training involved three thousand sets of physical exercises each day and long-distance running 33 35.
He subsequently witnessed Han Qiu reveal a purple Thousand-Year Soul Ring and identify himself as an Auxiliary System Soul Master. Initially unable to reconcile that classification with Han Qiu’s destructive strength, Xiao Chenyu experienced his recovery ability firsthand: Han Qiu restored his depleted Soul Power and removed his fatigue alongside Tang San and Xiao Wu 35 36.
Appearance
- Build and features: A handsome youth, described as the tallest boy among the Dorm Six group at his introduction 19.
- Martial Soul Possession: His eyes glow eerie green, and his hands transform into sharp wolf claws 20.
Personality
Xiao Chenyu initially displays strong class prejudice and entitlement. He regards his protection as an exceptional favor to a work-study student and treats Han Qiu’s refusal as an insult to his status. Even after submitting to Han Qiu, he remains boastful toward other students 19 20 29.
He is also capable of recognizing superior strength and showing sincere loyalty. His respect for Han Qiu survives his defeat, and he refuses to abandon that allegiance merely because Xiao Wu demands it. Against Tang San, he observes Soul Master etiquette and silences companions who dismiss the danger of a Hundred-Year Soul Ring. His enthusiasm for gaining strength, however, does not extend to enduring Han Qiu’s punishing training regimen 22 30 31 32 35.
