Appearance

  • Awakened soul form: Tall and handsome, wearing a pale cyan robe. His ink-black eyes are described as bottomless and filled with wisdom; his figure remains slightly illusory 928.
  • Restored body: Has fair, smooth skin, sturdy limbs, and a handsome face 1197.
  • Within the Xiao Clan: Wears white robes and long hair, with deep black eyes, a tranquil smile, and a refined bearing 1348.
  • Sword-like presence: Even before reaching Yuan Zong, his bearing impresses Zhao Jin, a Yuan Zun expert 1397.

Personality

Xiao Xuan places his descendants’ future above his own safety. He burns his soul power to help Xiao Yan reach an Emperor Realm Soul, and later considers Xiao Yan’s well-being more important than his own stalled cultivation. His battle with Xiao Feng is also intended to prevent the clan from treating Xiao Yan as dismissively as it treated him 1 1349 1356.

He remains composed through neglect and ridicule. When his cultivation stops progressing, former supporters distance themselves and others mock him, but he avoids losing control. His confidence in battle rests on extensive experience rather than bluster: he reassures Xiao Yan before accepting Xiao Feng’s challenge and deliberately restrains the finishing strike after winning 1352 1354 1356.

His warmth includes a teasing streak, as shown when he jokes about obtaining more Sea Tribe treasures after recovering. He is also pragmatic about alliances, persuading Xiao Yan that the Xiao Clan’s support is necessary to confront the forces holding Xun’er 1163 1357 1358.

Abilities & Skills

Azure Bathing Sword Art

Xiao Xuan’s principal named sword art combines concentrated sword Qi, wind, and later the Power of the Great Dao 1164 1203 1357.

  • Heaven-Gathering Strike: Breaks Hui Fu’s Demonic Tribulation Armor after ordinary sword Qi fails to penetrate it. He also uses it to shatter Yao Mei’s ribbon attack and a blue-faced opponent’s claw attack 1164 1208.
  • “One sword... sunders worlds”: Forms a sword from a hurricane and wounds Xu Cong, Yao Mei, the blue-faced man, Hui Fu, and a puppet; the puppet is cut in two 1208.
  • Dao Heaven One Sword: Channels an invisible greatsword through the Wind God’s Fury apparition, shattering Xiao Feng’s attack and leaving him defeated 1355 1356.
  • Expenditure: His broad attack against multiple Origin Kings nearly exhausts him, while his victory over Xiao Feng leaves him pale, sweating, and unsteady 1208 1356.

Great Daos of Wind and Sword

  • Wind control: Generates hurricanes that disperse poison mist before it can reach him and gathers wind into sharply concentrated attacks 1164 1353.
  • Initial awakening: Takes control of the Power of the Great Dao after sensing Ren Shaodong’s Great Dao of Wind, forming twenty-seven Great Dao Tents 1203.
  • Combined application: Uses Wind God’s Fury to wield the Great Dao of the Sword against Xiao Feng. Xiao Yuheng judges that few below Yuan Zun could match the strike 1357.
  • Earlier limitation: Before his Great Dao awakening, his ordinary sword Qi cannot break Hui Fu’s Dao-condensed armor; he overcomes it with Heaven-Gathering Strike instead 1164.

Wind God’s Fury

An Intent Class Dou Technique that creates an enormous apparition. Xiao Xuan can form it almost instantly, demonstrating exceptionally deep mastery, although the technique requires substantial Origin Qi 1355.

  • Answers Xiao Feng’s use of the same technique with his own manifestation 1354 1355.
  • Incorporates a greatsword and the Great Dao of the Sword into the apparition rather than relying on wind alone 1356 1357.

Spiritual Strength and Soul Control

  • Seventh-tier strength: Recovers to seventh-tier Spiritual Strength and is identified as a Seventh-Tier Formation Master 1165.
  • Body control: Can take control of Xiao Yan’s body, replacing Xiao Yan’s presence with his own 975.
  • Remote manipulation: Retrieves a Storage Ring hidden behind a plaque using soul power 931.
  • Realm stabilization: Channels Spiritual Strength into the Undersea Void Realm’s entrance, stopping its violent trembling and the influx of seawater 1003.
  • Limits: Cannot completely repair that entrance. After maintaining the effort for two days, his soul body becomes transparent 1003.

Formation Arts

  • Heaven-Imprisoning Formation: Restrains Hui Fu following their battle; Xiao Xuan later releases him rather than accepting Xiao Yan’s suggestion to kill him 1164 1165.
  • Protective formations: Raises a powerful barrier around the unresponsive Xiao Yan and defends it against Zhao Jin. Repeated attacks nevertheless bring it close to collapse 1397 1398.

Origin Return Mantra

The cultivation method associated with Xiao Xuan’s prolonged bottleneck 1349 1354.

  • Retrieves the Origin Return Art scroll from Venerable Heavenly Severing’s hidden Storage Ring 931.
  • Stalls at Peak Origin Emperor because the method is incomplete, not because of a bodily defect; even the clan’s Grand Elder cannot diagnose a physical problem 1354.
  • Receives the final black-parchment fragment from Xiao Yan, resolving the missing portion that had become his great regret 1349.

Combat Experience

  • Draws on a thousand years of life and numerous bloody battles, giving him a substantial advantage in martial experience over Xiao Feng 1354.
  • Uses two fingers to direct sword Qi, sever attacks, and condense powerful sword strikes without a conventional weapon 1164.
  • Defeats Four-Star Yuan Zong Xiao Feng while his own cultivation remains at Peak Origin Emperor 1357.

History

Sacrifice and Preservation

Xiao Xuan survives an earlier catastrophe with the Heavenly Tomb’s help. Even with less than one percent of his former peak power remaining, he kills two Hun Clan ancestors. He later burns his remaining soul power and fights the Heavenly Tomb Spirit so that Xiao Yan can break through from Heaven Realm Great Perfection to an Emperor Realm Soul 1 187.

Although he appears to disperse completely, Xiao Yan gathers his Soul Origin. After spending ten years searching ancient Dou Di tombs for a resurrection method, Xiao Yan enters a mysterious milky-white vortex in the hope of bringing him back 1.

Soul Recovery and Awakening

Gu You detects a trace of life in Xiao Xuan but warns that his remnant soul is too fragile for ordinary nourishing treasures. The proposed resurrection method remains uncertain. When the remnant soul begins drawing in purified Soul Origin on its own, Xiao Yan chooses not to stop it 53 187.

Xiao Yan continues seeking nourishment for him, eventually spending half a month refining the Soul Origins of seven Dou Di experts. The decisive contribution comes from Venerable Heavenly Severing, who voluntarily gives his own Soul Origin. Xiao Xuan awakens during the infusion and later thanks him for the inheritance 830 924 928.

After their reunion, Xiao Xuan accompanies Xiao Yan to an ancestral hall, retrieves Venerable Heavenly Severing’s hidden ring, and discovers the Origin Return Art. He also learns what happened while he slept, including Xun’er’s capture 931 938.

Sea Tribe Assistance and Physical Resurrection

At the Undersea Void Realm, Xiao Xuan stabilizes the damaged entrance but cannot fully repair it. He proposes sending someone inside to break the sealing formation through outside force. Hai Zhantian promises the Sea Shark Clan’s gratitude if the trapped people can be saved 1003.

After recovering with help from Sea Tribe treasures, Xiao Xuan intervenes against Hui Fu and defeats him. He subsequently reunites with Ancestor Fen Tian, who recognizes him from childhood. The reunion reveals that Fen Tian’s deceased, brother-like friend was Xiao Xuan’s father, Xiao Yao—and that Ghost Hall killed him 1163 1164 1189 1190.

Xiao Yan later assists the fusion of Xiao Xuan’s soul with a reconstructed body. After three days, the body initially shows no signs of life, but an influx of Origin Qi completes the revival and raises his cultivation to Eight-Star Origin King 1197.

Return to the Xiao Clan

Xiao Mingyuan saves Xiao Yan and Xiao Xuan, then takes Xiao Xuan to the Central Region’s Xiao Clan. The clan initially values him as a prodigy, but his standing collapses when his cultivation stalls at Peak Origin Emperor 1228 1350 1354.

When Xiao Yan finally arrives, he gives Xiao Xuan the missing fragment of the Origin Return Mantra. Soon afterward, Xiao Xuan accepts Xiao Feng’s challenge over the grievance involving Xiao Chuhang, who had injured him during a breakthrough. Xiao Xuan defeats Xiao Feng without killing him, demonstrating mastery of two Great Daos 1349 1354 1356.

Xiao Yuheng promotes him to inner council elder despite opposition. Xiao Xuan then persuades Xiao Yan to remain, arguing that rescuing Xun’er requires allies rather than individual strength alone 1357 1358.

Protection, Breakthrough, and Clan Ritual

Xiao Xuan gathers most of the ingredients for an Ancestor Transformation Pill, but Xiao Qian takes the required Sumeru Grass after Xiao Xuan fails to withstand three moves from him. Xiao Xuan and Xiao Yan leave for Shuyang City to seek a replacement 1376.

Later, while Xiao Yan sits unresponsive in grief, Xiao Xuan refuses Xiao Dingtian’s demand to hand him over. He shields Xiao Yan with a formation and confronts Zhao Jin, ultimately warning that he will kill him if he breaks through 1397 1398.

By the time Xiao Yan completes the Ancestor Transformation Pill, Xiao Xuan has already advanced beyond needing it. He confirms that he has reached Three-Star Yuan Zong. He subsequently enters the ancestral shrine for the clan ritual and remains inside after the other participants emerge more than six months later 1417 1419 1462.

Inner Council Leadership and the Bai Clan Conflict

Following his emergence, the Grand Elder recommends the Northern Territory Sword Tomb as a means to strengthen both Xiao Xuan and his position within the clan 1469.

Xiao Xuan later reaches Stone Rock Valley to rescue Xiao Yan from the Bai Clan. He blocks the enemy’s retreat and cuts Bai Rong in half with the Orchid Sword before Bai Rong can complete a suicidal charge. During the return journey, An Nan congratulates him on becoming head of the inner council. Learning how extensively the Zhao Clan controls Xiao Clan territory prompts him to declare that it is time to restore order 1483 1485.

As hostilities escalate, Xiao Xuan fights Bai Haotang while Xiao Yan attacks Bai Zijing. He later prepares to visit the Northern Territory Sword Tomb, accepting that the approaching conflict makes the journey necessary despite his concern for Xiao Yan 1496 1499.
