Background

Yue Guan was an elder of Spirit Hall and a Titled Douluo known as Chrysanthemum Douluo. He and Gui Mei were longstanding comrades and important experts within the organization. After dying, Yue Guan continued to exist in the Underworld as White Impermanence 3 16 17.

By Bibi Dong’s arrival after her own death, Yue Guan was already serving the Underworld. He reassured her that Spirit Hall still had a chance, escorted her through Fengdu City, and brought her before Chen Yuan. Bibi Dong subsequently accepted the divine office of Meng Po 1.

Appearance

  • Face: Retains the feminine grace and uncanny charm associated with his former appearance 6.
  • Clothing: Wears plain white mourning robes and a tall white hat bearing blood-red characters translated as “Fortune at First Sight” 6 7.
  • Weapon: Carries a pitch-black Mourning Staff surrounded by ghostly Qi and indistinct images of departed souls 6.
  • Divine presence: Radiates cold Nether Qi and oppressive Yin God power, which can darken the sky around him 7 12.
  • Restored body: Initially possesses an illusory Yin God body; the heavenly screen’s reward rebuilds his bones, flesh, and meridians, giving him warmth and a living physical form 9.

Personality

Yue Guan speaks in refined, aristocratic tones and is known for his wit. In combat, he remains composed and enjoys manipulating his opponent’s expectations. Against Tang San, he deliberately feigns weakness, encouraging an increasingly reckless assault before counterattacking 1 14 15 16.

His confidence does not diminish his obedience to Chen Yuan. He responds promptly to orders, bows before the Great Emperor, and ends his pursuit of Tang San when instructed to leave him alive 2 8 16.

He remains attached to Spirit Hall and its surviving members. The ruins of Spirit City evoke grief and memories of his former comrades, while Qian Renxue’s distress brings out a gentler side: he embraces her, comforts her, and tells her not to shoulder the past alone 12 16 24.

Abilities & Skills

Soul Guidance

Receiving and guiding virtuous souls is Yue Guan’s principal duty as White Impermanence 7.

  • Escorts departed souls into the Underworld and helps maintain the order of yin and yang 7 17.
  • Before receiving the heavenly screen’s rewards, could briefly visit the mortal world only through his official duties, with each journey restricted by Underworld rules 10.

Yin God Power

Yue Guan commands Nether divine power capable of confronting God King-level opponents 13 14.

  • Divine pressure: His presence on the heavenly screen leaves Soul Masters struggling to breathe; his descent at Spirit City darkens the surrounding sky 7 12.
  • Corrosion: His Yin Qi spreads along the Asura Sacred Sword and corrodes Tang San’s Asura Divine Power 14.
  • Lingering interference: The cold power clinging to Tang San weakens his divine-power circulation and causes pain even to his God King-level body 15.
  • Power restraint: Can keep his divine presence tightly contained, making his strength difficult for Tang San to assess 12.

Mourning Staff Combat

Yue Guan uses the Mourning Staff against both departed souls and divine opponents 8 14.

  • Scatters evil souls and dissipates their resentment, destroying an army numbering in the tens of thousands 8.
  • Shatters a giant beast formed from accumulated resentment, along with hundreds of evil souls behind it 8.
  • Blocks the Asura Sacred Sword and repels Tang San while he is using Asura power and borrowed Sea God power 14.

Combat Deception

Yue Guan exploits an opponent’s pride and misjudgment rather than immediately displaying his full strength 14 15.

  • Mocks Tang San to provoke anger and increasingly forceful attacks 14.
  • Pretends to retreat under pressure, inducing Tang San to expend divine power and expose an opening during a full-strength strike 14 15.
  • Reverses the battle once Tang San commits, forcing the Shrek Seven Devils to intervene and rescue him 15.

Heaven-given Martial Soul

The heavenly screen grants Yue Guan a new Martial Soul as part of his ranking rewards 9.

  • Manifests as an illusory image behind him and merges with his existing presence 9.
  • Integrates with his divine position and Underworld office; its name and individual techniques are not specified 9.

Passage Between Worlds

After receiving his rewards, Yue Guan can freely cross between the Underworld and Douluo Star 9 10.

  • Opens a pitch-black spatial rift using the Mourning Staff and steps through to the mortal world 10.
  • No longer depends on temporary soul-guidance assignments to make the journey 10.

Equipment

  • Mourning Staff — A pitch-black divine weapon bearing Netherworld patterns. Channels Yue Guan’s soul-destroying power and withstands direct clashes with the Asura Sacred Sword 8 14.
  • White Impermanence robes and hat — White mourning attire identifying his Underworld office; the tall hat bears the inscription “Fortune at First Sight” 6 7.

Relationships

  • Chen Yuan — Sovereign and superior. Yue Guan summons the Underworld gods, returns to Douluo Star, and confronts Tang San under his orders 2 10 13.
  • Bibi Dong — Former Pope and fellow Underworld deity. He guides her after death; she takes pride in his growth, while he later reflects on her transformation into Meng Po 1 8 45.
  • Gui Mei / Ghost Douluo — Longtime comrade, now Black Impermanence. Yue Guan calls him “Old Ghost,” exchanges familiar banter with him, and supports his work establishing the Underworld’s mortal outpost 16 24 25.
  • Qian Renxue — Treats him as family and calls him “Uncle Yue Guan.” He comforts her after their reunion and approves her decision to bring Spirit Hall into the Underworld 16 18.
  • Qian Daoliu — Former Spirit Hall leader and fellow Underworld member. Sees Yue Guan’s restored body as a sign of Spirit Hall’s possible revival and hopes he will avenge its suffering 9 12.
  • Tang San — Enemy and defeated opponent. Yue Guan humiliates him in battle but leaves him alive on Chen Yuan’s command 14 15 16.
  • Zhong Tian — Fellow Underworld official. Yue Guan supports the Hell Judge’s role in the Underworld’s return and tells Qian Renxue that his judgments will determine what follows 33 34.
